Summary: Classic comedy
Review: Michael Cane and Steve Martin were made for this film and actually have quite a bit of chemistry working together in this well-conceived little comedy. This is a great treat to watch and is a great contrast from some of Steve Martin's latest films in which he seems to be slipping from his best form and losing some integrity to boot. I like this one at least 10 times more than the trite 'cheaper by the dozen' which is one of the most hollywood (in the worst sense of the word) films ever released - blatantly designed for the consumer of light-hearted family comedies - crap in other words. But this one, 'Dirty Rotten Scoundrels' is brimming with humor, good times, and I think maybe some spontanaity from to of the cinemas finest comic (and some times dramatic) actors!

Summary: Smooth and Sticky!
Review: Here's a movie that is great fun. It really is the best of the eighties. Steve Martin is funny while Michael cane is smooth. They're both out for glory and riches. And, the find is in Janet. A real fiery one. She's just as sticky as they are, but even more. Good old Steve knows how to handle any role. So, they both play Janet, but it ends up to be more of a game between each other. No one knows who the real Jackal is. But, she's the one who gets them. COLD!!!!!!!!!! Just goes to show you how the real master is. Women trumps over man. You just can't get any better than that. The hunter becomes the hunted!

Summary: A Clever Comedy
Review: Paul Henning's comedy about two con-artists and swindlers in the French Riviera who feel that their territory is too small for both of them to be in at the same time. A clever comedy that will keep you laughing until the end with a good script and great performances.
Stever Martin is Freddy Benson, a small-time swindler who tries to find any ear (or preferably any purse) that will listen to his sobbing tales of misfortune. Michael Caine is Laurence Jameson, a big-time swindler who has his swindling formula down to perfection. After they both run into each other and realize they're each in the same line of work, both want the other to leave the Riviera. There being no resolution to their impasse, both Benson and Jameson agree to make a bet. The first to swindle the naive American heiress Janet Colgate (Glenne Headly) out of $50,000 stays while the other leaves in shame. What Jameson and Benson don't know is that their turf is being invaded by another swindler known only as The Jackal. Who will win this swindling contest?
A funny comedy augmented by the great talents of Martin and Caine. I couldn't stop laughing at the situtations and the lines. A comedy not to be missed!

Review: Steve Martin and Michael Caine star as two con men in a bet in this fresh, exciting comedious adventure.
Steve Martin plays a number of roles within his roles, as he acts as the novice conman portraying different people. As can be expected, he is really good and unpredictable. Director Frank Oz (on the audio commentary) said that Martin had an important role in revising the script and ad libbing. Michael Caine plays the shrewd, sophisticated con man very well. Glenne Headly is also very talented, playing the object of the bet.
Well written, well directed, well acted. Highly reccomended. Wish there were more like it.

Review: This film took by assault the abandoned concept of the comedy in his most genuine expression and gave it that Midas touch so well developed in the Fifties in U.K.(Kind hearts and cornetsThe ladykillers , The lavender hill mob ., Whisky Gallore , Hobson choice , The man in the white suit).
The lesson is crude : once more the hunter hunted fable is represented for Steve Martin as a pedestrian fake who knows to a mots respected gentleman with good maners and extraordibnary elegance (Michael Caine) , but there's something which spies behind the doors of our fate.
Watch this clever and unforgettable movie . There are a lot of laughable situations but the best jokes are simply suggested .
Caine in one of his best top performances and Martin making a towering role .
Don't miss this one.

Summary: I could (and do) watch DRS over and over
Review: Caine, Martin and Headly's comic timing + a great script + Frank Oz directing = a smashing, exceptionally entertaining feature. Each viewing results in the discovery of yet one more fresh twist given to a character, situation or line by this superb Gang of Four and their extraordinary supporting cast.
This timeless comedy won't feel like it was made nearly 20 years ago when you watch it because it feels so fresh. In fact, dirtyrottentomatoes gives it an unbelievable *95%* FRESH rating all these years after it was made.
If you want to have a great time and watch many masters at work without bringing inappropriate attention to themselves individually, this is a film for you.
I'm trying to find the awards this film must have won when it was released; it deserves many.

Review: Why do I love this movie so much? Clever dialogue, twists, predictable, yes but still funny, elegant setting, odd ball pairing, bad French accents...What more can you ask for in a movie. I love it all, especially Martin as Ruprecht, and the reactions he elicits. Michael Duranko

Summary: Ruprick, the genital cuffs!!!
Review: I can't believe this movie is a decade and a half old! Neither will you when you view it again (or for the first time). The cinematography is fresh and the comedy is timeless. The story revolves around a simple American con-man (brilliantly played by Steve Martin) who specializes in charming wealthy women out of whatever charity he can manage to swindel. That is, until he stumbles on to the master (Michael Caine), a suave ultra-swank European who doesn't go for the fast buck, but rather for the slow millions. The difference in their styles, as Martin invades Caine's comfortable European playground (and then ultimately decide to work together) make for extreme comedy. However, not the Jim Carrey slapstick that's been so popular lately, rather, this is infinitely more subtle in it's buildup, but "net net" as funny as most of the best contemporary comedy out there. If you have yet to see this film, count yourself lucky. Buy this DVD and give yourself 15 minutes to get into it. You won't be disappointed. For those of you who have seen it and are thinking about buying. Do it. It's one of the few DVD's in my collection I frequently watch and enjoy. Hope this was helpful to you. Christian Hunter
