Rating: Summary: Hoped for more. Review: A big disappointment. The bulk of the movie consists of segueways (not sure if this is the correct name for it) between "scenes" of driving around town. This only stretches a movie that needs to be put out of its misery. It would be funny if it weren't so bad. The budget REALLY showed.
Rating: Summary: Not the female version of Barbershop!!! Review: After Barbershop you knew a hair salon movie would follow. Nora is a beauty shop owner. She is the mamma to everyone who works, or does not work in her shop. She is also keeping a secret, and also suffering from heartbreak. Nora also has a hair care line that she is hoping to sell, but finds the formula is too strong. You have Ming the manicurist who is a smart talker "where you get your feet from Prison?" You have sexually confused Devon, and his flamboyant "boyfriend" Delicious. Chole (Tamala Jones)is the hair stylist who thinks she knows everything and does what she wants.
You have the Latina stylist by day and the stripper by night. Then you have Lily. Lily is a new stylist hoping she will belong to the "family", and dealing with a guy who is abusive to her. Lily is young, and she is naive. She has skills when it comes to doing hair, and great ideas that could help Nora. Bobby Brown also has a part in the film as Benny, he is the abusive guy who won't leave Lily alone.
This movie had moments that will make you chuckle. The movie pretty much showed the whole dynamic about the beauty shop being a place where women congregate, talk, and share the gossip. My favorite scene in the movie is when this woman has a relaxer on her head and it starts to burn and burn bad. She does what every woman has wanted to do in a shop. Totally freak out!!! Now that was the one scene that made ma laugh. Another scene that I found funny was when some guy was sent to get Lily and Nora punched him out, and then everyone in the salon made him look like a woman while he was out cold.
This movie is NOT the female Barbershop. It's no where in the same league. Lil Kim has a small part that is forgettable. (...) This movie was made with a small budget and it shows!! This movie rushed to beat Beauty Shop to the punch and in my opinion it failed miserably. Watching the making of the film was interesting. The movie is just okay, so do not get this with high expectations. You will be disappointed if you do.
Rating: Summary: Totally corny Review: Beauty shops are always so much more than they appear to be. Your fam is there, they know you and how to heal you. We all go in there to kick dirt, laugh, and in some instances to cry. This was a really great story, I think that it could have been a little better it didn't need all of the so called extras (LIL KIM, WHITNEY, or BOBBY BROWN) to help out maybe a stronger story line would have been sufficent. It however is a nice story.

Rating: Summary: Funny... laughing all the way through Review: Grrl pleazzz this was soo funny Jenifer Lewis is great no matter what she's in... the basic beauty shop with all of the drama...
I think Queen Latifah's Beauty Shop will be similar to this...
This was good even though it wasn't a blockbuster as far as the amount of money it made... The guy who plays half of the gay couple was actually one of the producers he played in another movie with Lisa Ray and Lil Kim I can't remember the name.
Ms. Tamala Jones is always good and right on point... I brought this from (...) and have watched it over and over and over..
Good Buy

Rating: Summary: Totally corny Review: I love Jennifer Lewis but this movie did her no justice at all.
Rating: Summary: Don't bother Review: I rented this movie (with a free movie rental coupon) and even having paid nothing I was disappointed. I really love Jennifer (Nora) and think she is a highly underrated actress. It's unfortunate that she has to take roles like this that underutilize her talent.
THe storyline is predictable and the characters underdeveloped. The storyline depends upon too many stereotypical depictions of characters - the "good" girl, the "bad" girl, the thug, the homosexual male.
I'm a big supported of Af Am books and film, but I wouldn't recommend spending your hardearned money on this one.
Rating: Summary: Could Have Been Better! Review: I thought that this movie was just.... Okay there was nothing really special about it really.
Rating: Summary: Not the greatest.. Review: I was actually excited to get this movie. I had ambitions that it was going to be a hysterical laugh from beginning to end. I was wrong. There are it's funny parts, it's sterotypical parts, and it's parts that get your heart to warm up. Although it has a good meaning and theme goin on, I got tired of it quickly. It's like a low budget film and something that should have been on Lifetime. All of the actors played their role well, (although I thought that Delicious was being overly dramatic and portraying homosexuals in an ill manner). Overall, I can't say I liked it nor disliked it. It was OK. I just learned not to have many high expectations of a movie based on it's lead actor.
Rating: Summary: Funny at times, but it went nowhere quick Review: This movie did have some really funny moments in it, and overall, I thought it was funnier then its predecessor, Barbershop. The acting was pretty solid, to. However, Barbershop had something from start to finish that this movie completely lacked, a plot. This story really went nowhere because there was a lack of a goal throughout it. And after I came to the end of it, I realized why this movie probably didn't get picked up for theatrical distribution, it felt really short! If the producers would have put as much effort into improving the script as they did with getting name brand people in it (stars) then it probably could have went somewhere. Oh well.
