Summary: Eccentricities are a Good Thing
Review: Many of the reviews I have read for Drowning Mona have been negative. Not many people can appreciate the eccentricities in this movie. It is no wonder then that the Region 2 DVD is outselling the American version (Region 1) by a longshot. The rest of the world can appreciate this movie, why cant we? I was not a fan of this movie upon first view, but then one night, I threw it in & viewed it with no expectations from director Nick Gomez. I fell in love with it. Being asked what he thought about Mona Dearly, Casey Affleck's character Bobby Kalzone states "Mona, she was the worst person I ever knew, just, in my entire life", the following flashback is the icing on the cake. The movie is filled with funny gems like this one. Bette Midler is fabulous, especially coming from me, since I dont usually like the roles she opts for. Neve Campbell is great & seems to be a screen giant in her role as Bobby's fiance. William Fitchner is also a highlight in his role as Phil Dearly. "You snooze, you lose" was Phil's response when given condolances of his wife's death from Peter Dobson's character Lt. Feege Gruber...Unbelievable! Danny Devito's role as Chief Rash is minimal but Devito was perfectly cast for the role. Other notables are Jamie Lee Curtis & Will Ferrell. Buy this movie, it grows on you like your In-Laws.

Summary: a late night laugher
Review: if you have nothing better to do, this is a movie to do that with. somewhat predictable as to whodunnit, the eccentricities of the movie and its outright black humor are sure to bring a laugh.

Summary: It has it's funny parts
Review: This is a decent film. There are plenty of funny parts. The story is based in a small town in New England, sometime around 1985. Yugo (the car manufacturer) has selected this town as a test bed for their cars.... But that's another story. Everyone in the town has a Yugo. Anyway, Bette Middler is a real pain in the neck of a woman. Everyone hates her, even her family. She's abusive and cruel. So, one day she has a bad accident in a Yugo and is killed. DeVito is the local Chief of Police. He detects foul play immediately. The movie goes from there as each of the possible suspects begin to tell their stories. The reenactments are very funny. Each person remembers the same scene differently. However, I only give it three stars because these actors have some much more skill than the film allows. Either way though, the film is entertaining.

Summary: This Movie IS Funny!!!
Review: I have read a lot of reviews about this movie and the consensus seems to be that it is not very good. Actually that is neither here nor there. Bottom line...this movie is funny!!! It is not slapstick comedy which seems to be so prevalent today. It is genuinely funny because of all the one-liners. Will Farrell is great and so is William Fichtner.

Review: I loved this movie, I watched it three times. I would recomend it to anyone. The characters were so funny, the acting was great, it was an all around good movie. The white trailor trash town was the perfect setting. What can I say, this movie was great!

Review: The meanist women in town Mona Dearly drove her car of the road into a river...Little did the town know but, It was murder..There are so many suspects cause no one remotely liked her..This movie is so funny cause no one hides that they didn't like her...The whole town is glad that she's dead..

Summary: Better than expected
Review: I've had this movie for some time but kept putting off watching it because I didn't expect it to be so great because of the cast--not my favorite actors. I finally watched it and was very entertained by it. What was interesting was watching the changes in some of the characters, especially Mona's husband. The undertaker was hilarious, particularly his joke about "everyone and their mothers" betting on the game.

Review: We are dealing with some very talented people here. Some of the jokes are amusing, so why isn't the movie more entertaining? Drowning Mona is about 94 minutes long. I wish it had been about Verplanck, NY, or the Yugos, or anything related to the story line, but it wasn't. A dark comedy about a dysfunctional town needs time to develop its characters. For those of you who felt you suffered enough, I can only say, "Don't hate me; it needed to be longer." The movie is worth a look, but don't plan on watching it over and over.

Summary: One for the Neve collection.
Review: The only reason why I bought this movie was because it had Neve Campbell in it. I'm a big fan of everything shes done and thought it would be good to see her try comedy. The movie is a who dunnit about the death of the town dragon, Mona (Bette Midler). Everybody is a suspect including Mona's husband (William Fitchner), the town Sherriff (Danny Devito), his daughter (Campbell) and her husband to be (Casey Affleck). The film is pure slapstick comedy, and the main story is continuing flash backs of events with each suspect and Mona to give some clues as to who dunnit, which does get anoying, but it's still a very funny film. Luckily for me, the best thing about this is Neve Campbell. She proves that she is able to move on from the troubled teenager roles and has great comedy timing. Looking at this I think she should stay here for a while and build on it. Maybe even a guest appearance on "Friends" with "Scream" buddie Courteney Cox would be good for her!! Well we can hope can't we?

Review: really stiff, cause some actors looked like they didnt try, and sassy cause it had its funny times, and it was a comedy cause of most the funny parts. I dont say buy it but its a must rent.
