Summary: Purrrrrrrrrrrrr-fect
Review: I love this movie. Racheal Leigh Cook was the perfect Josie. My favorite lines are. "When life gives you lemons you make lemonade and when the goin' gets tough..." " The tough makes lemonade." I think Melody (Tara Reid) totally made the show. Although Josie was my favorite. Melody ran a close second.

Summary: Difference between PG-13 and PG Versions...
Review: I've seen both versions and here are the differences between the two:

The PG-13 version is the theatrical version, widescreen. It contains a bit of language and suggestive dialogue--enough to make it PG-13.

The PG version is an "edited" version that was cleaned up enough to make it pass for PG, which is what the original creator wanted. IT IS FULL FRAME. Every site you go to will say it's widescreen, but it's NOT. It is full frame--so be aware of that. Other than that, the extras, DTS and DD5.1 sound, etc, is exactly the same as the original.

Most of the edits made in the PG version are stuff you won't notice because they just cut a scene a few seconds early. (For instance, in the PG-13 opening video, Melody is holding a sign that says "Honk if you love Pussycats," but the "cats" is cut off--in the PG version, you don't see this clip in the video at all. They replaced it with something else.) However, there are TWO bits of dialogue where they did voice-overs. Both times it's the bad guys ranting and you can tell their lips move differently from the "cleaner" dialogue that's inserted. It's just like watching a cleaned-up movie on TV in those two small parts.

I should also add that the ONLY place I could find online that had the PG version is Amazon. For both the PG and PG-13 version, they show the same picture, BUT instead of the purple "Widescreen" bar at the top, the PG version ACTUALLY has a pink band at the top that says "This Film Edited for Family Viewing." On the back it says 1.33:1 Full Frame.

Personally, I own the PG version because I have some very young ones watching it--and the language is totally out of place in this film. But it's a sacrifice since you lose the widescreen.

Summary: Classic... total classic
Review: Maybe not quite a classic, but I went into Josie and the Pussycats expecting it to be terrible. I was so wrong. This isn't going to knock "Citizen Kane" or "The Godfather" off of the top of any critic's list, but "Josie" is fun, and isn't that what it's all about? Rachel Leigh Cook is gorgeous, The Pussycats' music is catchy, and the movie is pretty funny too. Some nice satire about advertising and commercialism too. If you aren't too jaded to enjoy a movie about a group of innocent girls led by their hot lead singer trying to make it in the sinister music industry, you'll enjoy this.

Summary: A Silly Masterpiece
Review: I saw this movie 3 times in theater. It's a wonderfully funny rip on boy bands and commercialism. If you're into ridiculous movies with that 80's feel and girls that rock, then this is the perfect fit.

Summary: Number 2 of my favorite movies
Review: I am a 13 y.o. guy and when I saw the previews for the movie I set my sights on seeing it. The more ads I saw the funnier it was. Unfortunately I didn't see it in theatres. When I rented it on video I didn't laugh much... As I saw it more and more the more jokes I got and funnier it was. It is a watch-more, laugh-more kind of film.

I liked this for three reasons.
1) I am a sucker for movies about bands (eg That Thing You Do! and Almost Famous)
2) I thought this movie should bee number one on the "to-see" list.
3) People say I also love teen films and that's right. But this is several notches above that standard. It doesn't take cheep-shots and is originally funny.

(Ps. MY favorite movie is 10 Things I Hate About You)

Summary: hilarious teen comedy
Review: Based on the popular Archie comic-book characters, JOSIE AND THE PUSSYCATS is a clever teen comedy with a very timely message about teen commercialism and fads.

When Josie (Rachael Leigh Cook - ALL I WANNA DO) and her two best friends Melody (Tara Reid) and Valerie (Rosario Dawson), otherwise known as The Pussycats, are picked up by a big recording label, they are catapulted into the teen-star pop charts. However, they are merely the pawns of recording moguls Fiona (Parker Posey - THE HOUSE OF YES) and Wyatt (Alan Cumming - EMMA) to brainwash the youth of America using subliminal messages in their songs.

Parker Posey and Alan Cumming are delicious in their high-camp performances and are matched every second by Rachael Leigh Cook and Tara Reid who give dead-on comedic delivery.

Also featuring Seth Green, Gabriel Mann, Paulo Constanzo, Breckin Meyer and Missi Pyle.

The DVD includes the trailer, deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes footage and music videos.

Summary: Honk if you love Pussy....(cats)
Review: Josie and the Pussycats is a very enjoyable film. While the plot is kind of ridiculous, the performances of most are very pleasing. Especially those of Rachael Leigh Cook and the adorable Tara Reid who portrayed the bubbly Melody perfectly, right down to the comic book like "tee-hee" giggle. (In the scene where the 3 girls and their sleaze bag agent are getting into a limousine, and Melody (Tara) is heard commenting, "More coasters"...tee-hee. There is a cute tongue in cheek scene involving Tara and her former fiance' Carson Daly. The music in the movie is very catchy, especially the tunes, 3 small words, Spin Around, Pretend to Be Nice and the Josie and The Pussycats Theme song which is heard during the closing credits. The DVD features a very good behind the scenes feature titled Backstage Pass, which shows the making of the movie, how all 3 girls learned to play their respective instruments, and also shows how all 3 girls, especially Tara, take their work seriously. The only negative comments I have on the movie is all of the advertisements and product logos. If you have a teenager, were a fan of the Josie comic books or cartoon series, or want to see another excellent performance by a very under rated and very unfairly critiqued actress, Tara Reid, this DVD is highly recommended. Rosario Dawson, who portrays Valerie, gives a very strong performance as well, as does Rachael Leigh Cook who portrays Josie. But Tara Reid as Melody steals the show. And for those who don't remember, or have never read the comic, or seen the cartoon, Melody IS a bubbly, carefree, sweet girl who loves everything, puppies, rainbows, hugs... She is NOT STUPID. It is a very feel good movie. Enjoy.

Summary: The old cartoon was better!
Review: I was disappointed in this film. I thought that it was going to be a good story about a up and coming band and their friendships. This movie had some of that but not enough. The plot about subliminal messages was interesting but really took away from the film as did the bad acting by everybody except for Cook (Josie).

This movie had no substance, was stupid in parts and was really not worth the time. Try to find the old cartoon.

Summary: Awesome Awesome!
Review: When I first seen this movie I didn't care for it too much, but that's because I didn't see this first 10 minutes of it. But when I seen it on TV, it got a little better and soon I found myself watching this movie everytime it came on and then eventually buying the dvd and cd. I'm Pussycat obsessed!! I make sure I watch this movie at least twice a week. I even find myself quoting Val, "You messed with the wrong Pussy!" LOL I love this movie. Tara Reid did a superb job of portraying Melody Valentine, and airheaded blonde. Rosario Dawson was really kewl as Valerie Brown, the street smart pussycat (I've only seen her on "Down To You" as the stoner girl, so this was nice seeing her in a real acting role). And finally, Rachael Leigh Cook was really kewl as Josie McCoy, the singer. I loved when she let the subliminal messages get to her and she told off Mel and Val. "What's the matter snuggle-bunny?? Realizing the world ain't all sunshine and rainbows?" and this one "Puppies grow into dogs, who get old and DIE!" LOL Oh this is gonna be a cult classic. And it really does make you think if record companies are brainwashing the youth of america with subliminal messages, because I know too many girls who act like the freaky fans.
I also think Alan Cumming and Parker Posey did a great job being the villans of the flick. I'm used to Parker Posey being a [mean] person because of her character on "Dazed and Confused". Anyhoo, this movie is for everyone, young and old :)
