Summary: Directors not telling whole truth about product placement
Review: The directors of this two-hour commercial claim on the DVD that they didn't receive a penny from product placement, but I've read elsewhere that most of the brands featured in this movie have big-money promotion deals with Universal, the studio that backed it. So maybe they didn't receive money from Starbucks directly, but if Starbucks still ultimately paid for a movie that features their logo in every shot, aren't the directors kind of... lying?Also, the behind-the-scenes video goes to great lengths to imply that Rachael Leigh Cook did her own singing. Actually the vocals are by Kay Hanley, of 'Letters to Cleo.' Manipulative deceit makes it difficult to enjoy this otherwise fun bubblegum flick, particularly as the point of the film seems to be "Manipulating and deceiving teenagers out of their money is morally wrong."

Summary: Not that great ...
Review: In seeing the trailers to this for months it seems, I have to confess that I was curious to see how the movie turned out. In recalling the cartoon of the same name, it made me even more curious as to the results of this movie. While there were some humorous parts, overall it was a big disappointment. The music was not good, the acting was not good, and the plot was not good. In essense ... the movie was not good ... just a bunch of hype.

Summary: Surprisingly Fun
Review: Now, I heard this movie was awful...a flop...zero stars...nothing good...a SELL OUT. Then, a woman I know suggested I watch it because I might enjoy the satire on the evils of marketing. While she and I disagree on the "evils" of marketing--I for one don't see too much evil, we agree that this is an enjoyable romp. Is it deep no? However, it is feel good. The satire, again, is not the league of something you would see in the New Yorker--but it is funny and knowing. They do hit a chord. The absurd product placement is hilarious--some critics have bashed the filmakers for this. However, it is part of the joke! Still, the absurd marketing blitz for this film and all the toys, was overboard...but I blame Universal (Lou Wasserman where have you gone ol' boy?), not Kaplan and her crew. The three girls are terrific, Cook--well it is just good to see her again. Reid shines as she does, and Dawson deserves better lines, but she is a talent. Alan Cumming--great. Parker Posey drove me up the wall. Special mention to Breckin Meyer and company for their spoof "du jour." Hilarious. I laughed and I really enjoyed the music. If you take this movie at face value, which our stuffed shirt movie critics can't see to do...I got such a kick out of this little film. While it isn't Can't Hardly Wait (a wonderful film by the same team), this movie is really fun. It deserves better then it got. Cheers!

Summary: overly hyped and majorly dissapointing
Review: This movie was played up to be the best movie for teenage girls ever but doesn't live up to that title! THe parts with boy band DuJour were the best parts in the movie. The Pussycats however are incredibly boring. Even if you are not watching closely you will see the blatant advertising throughout the whole movie. Brand names and company's are seen throughout the movie! The storyline wasn't exactly very exciting either. Most 11 year old girls will enjoy it but if you don't fit in that category, watch out the pussycats might scratch!

Summary: JOSIE provides top-notch satirical laughs
Review: Despite being based on a rather tame Archie comic and Hanna-Barbara cartoon, JOSIE AND THE PUSSYCATS is awash with sharp, silly and satirical humor that keeps tickling your funny-bone from start to finish. From its takeoff of boy-bands, to the running gag of endless product placements, this flick had me smiling from start to finish. Rachael Leigh Cook is solid as Josie, while Tara Reid is totally endearing as the dim, but not dumb, blonde Melody. Alan Cummings and Parker Posey are a hoot as the evil music executives who use the band to plant subliminal messages in their teenage fans' brains. When this movie first came out, many critics were not kind to this flick. Frankly, I think they missed the point. JOSIE is a spot-on spoof of today's music business that truly amuses. Highly recommended.

Review: My review is simple and to the point. This was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. What ever happened to the great movies of the past? When stories were great and you actually cared to finish a movie...........I guess this movie proves how far we have declined in what is considered "popular" culture.

Summary: A fun movie.
Review: It was quite disappointing that this movie did not make big bucks at the box office. Maybe because it had a bad marketing campaign, except for the numerous cover stories and articles we all saw at the news stands. However, after watching the movie, it is not a surprise why it didn't meet the critics and audience's expectations. First of all, the plot is quite thin but interesting if the directors approached it a better angle. Second, the dialogues are bad. Third, the acting needs a little work. But overall, if you ignore that and expect this movie to be a care-free flick, it's a fun movie. The cinematography and the editing was impressive, as well as the infectious snappy songs they specifically wrote for the movie.

Review: Josie and The pussycats is a funny movie. Josie & The pussycats are a rock girl group with 3 members josie (rachel leigh cook) Val (Roserio Dawson) and Mel (Tara Reid) they've always dreamt to be famous with no.1 hit and their dream really came true but not in the normal way.when they were annonymous there was this boyband DuJour who everyone adored and they had this smashing single Backdoor Lover and 1 day they ask their manger wyatt (Alan Cumming) what was the noises they hear on their single and wyatt escapes from the plane and the plane crashes down so no1 will find the conspircy and he goes on searching another band and he found 1 josie and the pussycats wyatt and fiona(parker posey)are planting in josie's songs messages that will brainwashed the teenagers to buy all the stuff the rest I won't tell you GO SEE IT! IT'S GREAT MOVIE

Summary: Months later, and still a good memory!
Review: OK, so I'm a mid-30's dad and I thought both me and my daughter could use a dose of girls with guitars. What I didn't expect was the riot of fun, great punk and freethinking satire found here that raises the film well beyond the kid-glop that us parents have to put up with. There are subtexts here that could be read several different ways, (which makes for some interesting philosophizing) but this is the meatiest piece of family entertainment in a long while. And the CD? A hundred listenings later on my kid's stereo and I still like it!

Summary: Josie and the Boring-cats
Review: Like most people, when I saw the previews for this movie I was excited and couldn't wait to see it. Well, when I did see it, I was very disappointed. This movie was very boring and very stupid - I am sorry to say. It starts off with a bunch of fans screaming over a boy band, played by Seth Green, Breckin Meyer, and a couple others. This short beginning may well be the only funny part of the movie because of the actors. However, the rest of the movie goes down hill from there. I found myself waiting for it to be over. Though I like Rachael Leigh Cook, all three girls were boring and obnoxious - especially the ditzy Melody (played by Tara Reid). Rosario Dawson was a worthy effort out of the trio, the only one with a little brains. Again, I wanted to like this movie, but what you feel like afterwards is bored and irritated and wishing you hadn't spent your money on this movie. Please take my advice and stay away from Josie and the Pussycats - I can gaurantee you'll be happy.
