Summary: Better than the first!
Review: I only had a coupleof complaints with the original Flintsone movie, both casting problems actually. Rosie O'Donnel was an awful choice for Betty, and Pebbles and Bam Bam were too old! Other than that I loved it! The rest of the casting was excellent! As for this prequel, this movie was much better! Hilarious! The casting was great! Though I would have cast a different Wilma personally. She was still good. Betty was such an unbelievable improvement! This one was perfect! Gazoo was great, as was Dino. I loved it! Barney stole the show in my opinion though. It's too bad people think they're too good to go see a movie like this, because they're missing out!

Review: I was one of the few adults out there who will admit to enjoyed the first flick, but I still stand by that decision. So, I eagerly rushed to the video store to snag a copy of the DVD. I hadn't seen it before viewing it and wasn't really sure what to expect. I shouldn't have worried...the film was great fun. A little juvenile, a little too silly but what do you expect from a movie based on a cartoon? If you're a fan of The Flintstones tv series or enjoy the work of actors Mark Addy and Alan Cumming you'll be sure to enjoy this flick. The appearance of the Great Gazoo was a nice touch and something well-remembered by this fan. Take a chance...I'm sure you'll love it.

Summary: Yaba-Daba-Doo!
Review: I'm a big fan of Flintstones vitamins and the animated series. So I was really disappointed with the previous Flintstones live action movie. The jokes fell flat and although the casting was great (John Goodman was born to play Fred and Halle Berre in that skimpy outfit, yaba-daba-doo!), it didn't feel right. I think they tried too hard to capture the magic of the original show. You can't catch lightning in a bottle. The beauty of "Rock Vegas" is, they didn't even try! This movie has Stephen Baldwin in it. He's the Baldwin they call when the other Baldwins have all thumbed their noses at the script! Mark Addy? Wasn't he one of the extras in "A Knight's Tale" or something? Kristen Johnson (Wilma) has the most celebrity here but she's horrendously miscast! Wilma is supposed to be this petite thing. Johnson, all 6 feet of her, with those thunder thighs and that whiskey voice...! Watch out for an appearance by a washed up, wrinkled Joan Collins! So this movie has "Straight To Video" written all over it. But somehow, it works. Don't ask me how. Somehow this cast, and the plot, and the wonderful sight gags all come together and if you suspend your belief for a moment, you'd think you were still watching the cartoon. So if you like the Flintstones, give this a shot. Or wait til it comes on cable. And if you haven't tried Flintstones vitamins, do so. They're great and if you eat enough of them rumor has it, your urine will turn purple and green.

Review: Ouch! This movie stings! As an overall lover of children's films, even I resorted to glumly pushing the armrest up and down in my movie seat. The plot would have been grand if it didn't have so many deficient plotlines. As for the cast, I've seen Johnson do better and they wouldn't have been too bad seperately. But personally, I don't think they were much of a team. My fave casting choices were Mel Blanc (I'm still vauge on how they did that) as the voice of baby Dino and the double play that actor (his name escapes me) did as the Great Gazoo and Mick Jagged. The novelty of stone age items wore thin in the first movie, and they shouldn't have made them a big deal at all in this one. The final two minutes were full of energy and fun but all I could do during that was think "I waited 90 minutes for this?" It was not memorable nor very enjoyable. Yabba-dabba-doo not go out of your way to see this film.

The actor who played Fred was likeable, but ... dull and unconvincing. The Baldwin brother who portrayed Barney was ideally cast. 'Greg' from 'Dharma & Greg' should've been over-the-top cornball, but he seemed to barely act at all. He seemed like a mildly skewed version of 'Greg', strange that an actor wouldn't want to act completely different. Wilma and Betty are finely casted, though Wilma is a very different from the show. She used to be a 'straight' character, now she's more humorous. Alan Cumming is spectacular as usual, but the script doesn't give him much of anything to do. Joan Collins and Wilma's father, 'Colonel' are perfect. The SFX are ok, but the script is unredeemably shallow, immature and full of second-rate puns and gags. The biggest payoff is the impressions and the sets, and the original movie had way more of both (along with a decent plot!). The last movie felt like it had a beginning, a middle, and an end, this just slumps the whole way through, but actors help out immensely. I think it tried to be too serious or goofy in scenes. I constantly thought, 'I guess I'm supposed to laugh now' or 'care now'. I love the surreal nature of having this imaginative world in live action. It sounds strange, but to see Wilma get her pearls is... *weird*. I guess that's where most of my enjoyment comes from, but again, Spielberg did it better. To put this in perspective, I paid [money] for it and I'm starting to wish I had saved the cash.

Review: The cartoon humor of the show does not work in this live action version of the Flintstones with jokes that sound like they came from rejected episodes of Saturday Night Live and acting and costumes that really came from working with a low budget, and Low is what this movie is all about

Summary: They almost pulled it off..but Jackie Gleason is not Fred...
Review: They almost pulled it off.... Jane Krakowsky is perfect as Betty....Baldwin is as good Moranis as Barney....Johnson is passable as Wilma, though Perkins is better because she's more demure...but the movie struck out on a Fred who impersonates JACKIE GLEASON throughout the movie! We all know the Flintstones are a cartoon loose adaptation of the Honeymooners...BUT------Jackie Gleason is NOT Fred Flintsone, we wanted to see Fred Flintstone not Jackie Gleason. I think the actor was capable of being Fred by being more of himself and I hope he drops the Gleason act for the next movie. If you overlook wannabe-Gleason Fred, the movie was awesome; the Great Gazoo was incredible as a special effect and for his wit. Overall, this movie was magic on the verge of greatness, they need to fix Fred and recast Wilma and they could have a very interesting movie series. Use a wild adventure as the script and audiences will return.
