Summary: Great!!
Review: A hilarious movie starring Jason Schwartzman from Rushmore (another great one). Jason's character "Cool Ethan" is genius and the movie will have you laughing the whole way through.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Awful.
Review: An absolute waste of time. Changing the cat litter is more productive than watching this stinker. How'd they ever get Cameron Diaz to make a cameo? Well, then again, she was in "The Sweetest Thing" so I guess there's no accounting for taste...

Summary: Lame
Review: Any movie that has to steal the title of an already well-known movie must have very little going for it. These teen stars know that they're dime-a-dozen, and are hoping to make money to get them through the years when they're over 25 and unemployed again.
Boo! Boo! This is going to stink!

Summary: more weird and creepy than funny
Review: compared to what most people say i think this is a very good movie. the problem with the film was probably the trailers for it. they showed it as this slapstick comedy with a popular rock soundtrack. in reality it is somewhat of a dark comedy with really strange music. anyway, this movie still has it's very funny moments. as i said earlier this movie is very weird and creepy. just the way the characters act you can tell they're not normal. the best actor in this by far is Jason Schwartzman who steals the show. his two songs in it are hilarious. but in short this movie should be seen with an open mind and knowing the fact that you're not going to see a goofy movie.

Summary: Weird but not a good weird....
Review: From the previews that I'd seen of "Slackers" I thought that it was a college type comedy like PCU and Road Trip. It certainly has taken some of it's few comedic momments from both these movies. There is no classifying this movie, it isn't all that funny. Plus, the whole thing with the Ethan character, played by Rushmore's Jason Schwartzmann, is just totally bizarre.
Why is this movie called "Slackers"? It really should have been called "Cheaters". Was that title already taken?
It could've been called "Stalker". Ethan stalks and obsesses with the female lead character, Angela, who wants pretty much nothing to do with him.
I will not say much more about this film because I thought it was a travesty of the teen/college comedy genre. I have liked other movies I thought were weird, but this film had nothing else to offer. There isn't much originality here, and it just makes teens today look as if they have no scope to their imaginations when it comes to what they consider humerous in a movie. We have had far too many films with the same brand of sick humor.
Also, even though his character is twisted psychotic Ethan, Jason Schwartzman was very good. The rest of the actors were nothing special. Unless you are male, you may appreciate Mamie Van Doren's scene.
I don't recommend this film at all. Watch "Animal House" for a great comedy set in a college and put this one back.

Summary: Slackers...Great Movie...Okay Cast
Review: I am a guy who can relate to Slackers. It is a great movie that is sure to become an instant classic. Devon Sawa heads the cast and stands out the most. Also starring is James King (Devon's love interest), and Jason Schwartzman (Devon's blackmailer). The plot is that Devon and his two friends run a scam to pass College. Schwartzman finds out about it and threatens him into helping him get together with King. As the show goes on a lot more laughs come into play. Cameo's include Cameron Diaz and Gina Gershon just to name a few. My favorie scene is between James and Devon at the pool, there you can catch a glimpse of Devon's behind. You can also see it briefly in the locker room scene. Be warned this movie has a lot of nudity...

Summary: Alas! Talent Wasted!
Review: I had vowed to go watch the movie "Slackers," no matter what anyone had told me about it, because I was naively trying to convince myself, "Well, it has Jason Schwartzman... It must be good, right?" Well, I went and saw "Slackers" and was, much like many had told me I would be, disappointed. "Slackers" is unoriginal, uneven, and commits the cardinal sin of filmmaking: It wastes talent. There is, indeed, a lot of talented people involved with this film. The director, Dewey Nicks, displays a unique style that is modern and fun throughout this film. Jason Schwartzman, playing a stalker-in-training named Cool Ethan, is very funny playing a sort-of-riff on the character of Max Fischer from "Rushmore." And Devon Sawa showed a lot of acting promise in the film "SLC Punk!" so you'd expect him to deliver a funny/charming characterization.

Yet all this talent cannot save "Slackers" and, in fact, adds salt to the wound becuase "Slackers" could've been a very funny college campus black comedy in the veign of "Animal House." But it's not. Its story is so unoriginal and lame and its gross-out gags so dirty and unfunny that the story is a disgrace (on the subject of the gross-out comedy: When is Hollywood going to learn that gross-out gags aren't funny if the characters that they happen to are PROUD of them and don't care if they happen). Not only this, but the movie is also confusing and very scattered.

All in all, "Slackers" is an example of talent gone haywire. A film by only the strictest definition of the word. My advice is to just forget this movie was ever made and go rent "Rushmore" instead, to quench your thirst for a quality film.
