Rating: Summary: Awesome well worth waiting for Review: Fantastic. I could only hope for something this good from her and everyone else involved. Originally I watched the first movie of hers when I was a teenager and the panache of her acting style always emphasized the wonderful writting. This is a delightful homage to all the old horror's I loved as a kid and still love today. I can only hope to express thanks to her and everyone involved for a delightful movie.
Rating: Summary: Another fun, funny and long overdue Elvira adventure! Review: Finally! After 14 years, Elvira's second feature film debuts. It's quite different from her first, but equally entertaining. Setting out to spoof some of her favorite horror films, Cassandra Peterson and her writing partner John Paragon fuse elements of the classic Roger Corman/Vincent Price/Edgar Allen Poe films The House of Usher, The Pit and the Pendulum and The Tomb of Ligea into a campy farce - perfect fodder for Elvira's unique talents. Elvira recruited Rocky Horror's Richard O'Brien as her co-star, and he gives a great performance as Lord Hellsubus. Rounding out the cast are several members of L.A.'s Groundlings comedy troupe, Mary Scheer and Mary Jo Smith. Heather Hopper is terrific as Hellsubus's doomed sister, and Scott Atkinson does an amazing job as the two faced doctor with both an aristocratic and cockney British accent. The sets are enormous and detailed. The cinematography is virtually flawless, and there are several very well done special effects (and Elvira comments on them in the film...). Of course, Elvira's campy quips and physical humor are the stars of the show. There's also a great running gag with the stableman's bad English dubbing. All in all, this is a long overdue and highly enjoyable adventure. Well worth checking out, especially if you enjoy Elvira's first film, or if you're a fan of the Roger Corman Poe films. You might also want to read the Elvira series of paperbacks(if you can find them...), also written by Cassandra Peterson and John Paragon...Elvira Transylvania 90210, Elvira Camp Vamp, and Elvira The Boy Who Cried Werewolf....they are a lot of fun too.
Rating: Summary: HAUNTED HILLS IS HILARIOUS - HAIL THE QUEEN OF CAMP ! Review: First off, ignore the mean spirited Chastity Piriah-like comments by some of the so called fans; as this parody/tribute of the 1960's Corman/Poe/Price films is actually quite excellent. ELVIRA'S HAUNTED HILLS is not ELVIRA,MISTRESS OF THE DARK part II, but an entirely new and equally fulfilling celluloid romp. Yes the first film is more outregeous, and the new film at times could have a little more bite; yet I find HAUNTED HILL'S 1851 Carpathia the perfect realm for ELVIRA to forever be cemented in. We find our heroine surrounded in atmosphere haunting the same Gothic fogged hallways she used to host on Movie Macabre, all the while wonderfully spoofing too many horror/comedy genere cliches to count. ELVIRA'S in top form both physically and comedically; as her impeccable line delievery and gorgeous animated face once again crown her the Queen of Camp. By the way youth obsessors, one can still be a Vamp in middle-age, as long as one doesn't try to be twenty. Actress Cassandra Peterson (who plays ELVIRA) wisely knows this and ignores the notion that a woman isn't sexually viable after forty. YOU GO GIRL and may you make many more ELVIRA EXTRAVAGANZAS !!!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: just in time for the holidays Review: for those of us who loved watching elvira on tv in the early and mid-eighties or for those discovered her in the feautre length film elvira mistress of the dark, here is a special trick or treat which is guaranteed to please. unfortunately, i didn't have the pleasure of seeing this on the big screen but thank god for dvd, right? haunted hills should please anyone remotely interested in campy comedies and deserves its rightful place amongst the greatest cult classics of our time. there is enough hair-raising fun here for everyone involved and this film would make a great background visual for your upcoming halloween party. prepare to laugh heartily as the lusty humor which surrounds this suspenseful, slick film much like a second skin. haunted hills is a film to watch and watch again. fans of richard o'brien will surely relish in the mere delight of seeing him return to the big scream. (uh, screen i mean.) if you are ready for fun and need to chuckle, you won't go wrong with the new elvira movie. in addition to this new favorite, you may wish to also pick up a copy of anchor bay's elvira mistress of the dark on dvd which is of terrific sound quality and the visuals have never been more crisp nor clearer than they are here. unpleasant dreams, my fellow elvira fans. ta-ta!
Rating: Summary: A Big Bust In More Ways Than One Review: Her creation of the bouffant-haired, wise-cracking, and sexed-up "Elvira, Mistress of the Dark" put Cassandra Peterson on the map, and she's had a memorable career playing the character in more venues than you can count. But where her first big-screen effort ELVIRA MISTRESS OF THE DARK was a truly funny film with a good script, good cast, and good production values, ELVIRA'S HAUNTED HILLS is pretty much a bust from start to finish--and I don't mean Peterson's justly celebrated figure. HAUNTED HILLS is, in theory at least, a send-up of Roger Corman's so-called 'Edgar Allen Poe Films'--a series of ultra-cheap 1960s flicks very loosely suggested by various Poe stories and poems. But sad to say, HAUNTED HILLS is not even as good as the films it pokes fun at. The production values are ultra-cheap, the cast is largely no-name and noticeably untalented, and the script has all the comic effect of roadkill. But the major attraction here, of course, is Elvira herself. Sad to say, the camera man and the lighting designer seem to go out of their way to catch Peterson from angles and in unflattering light that shows her advancing years--but even so, Peterson continues to wear the character extremely well; when well-photographed her face retains considerable youth, no one could ever argue with her physical charms, and the gets more than you might expect out of this extremely lackluster script. Richard O'Brien (of ROCKY HORROR fame) also scores a few chuckles as one of the several suspicious characters that plague Elvira during her stay in the mysterious castle. But even so, it's all very, very thin stuff, a disservice to both Peterson and the character she has created. Recommended for hardcore Elvira fans only.
Rating: Summary: Anyone want my copy? Review: I am so disappointed to write this, being a big Elvira fan. I thought the first movie was great. But this one just wasn't good. It's too "Looney Tunes", with too many lame sound effects (Boink!). ALL of the characters were very annoying and not funny, including a spineless fat maid, and a doctor with an irritating, monotone voice. This movie and all the "one-liners" don't compare to the old Elvira I know and love. At least I still have the first movie to watch.
Rating: Summary: The Queen returns! Review: I can't believe all of the "so called" Elvira (Fans) who have written reviews here, first off ! at 50 cassandra looks AWESOME, and as Elvira she is Still a wonder to behold!!! second, the film was made to be a spoof of "the pit and the pendulum" , for those who dont know who roger corman , or edgar allen poe are,you are simply missing out.If you havent read poe, or seen at least ONE vincent price/corman film you have NOTHING to say here! go review "american pie" or something! This film is Brilliant, and Peterson shines in all of her Elvira Glory! a Perfect sequel, however my ONLY complaint would be that this should have been made years ago and another sequel would be nice, however with all of the "so called" (fans) out there, no Wonder she doesnt make films anymore... Elvira is the HOTTEST thing since Television! sheesh, most of you who thought this film was a flop probably think "austin powers" is the funniest right?
Rating: Summary: This Movie Was Okay, Her First One Was and Is The Best! Review: I did not like how this movie was set back into the 1850s. I mean I thought that her movie would continue as if in the year 2000. I was kind of dissapointed with the lack of humor as in her first movie and the acting of the other characters (except ELVIRA) was not very good. She still had her witty, sexy and clever one-liners which I did enjoy but I felt that the movie needed to be more modern. She definitely still looked the same back in the 1980s (Very Nice). But I still think that it could have been better...Sorry Cassandra.
Rating: Summary: Elvira- Simply the Best Review: I loved this movie from beginning to end. I may be biased because I have always enjoyed anything that Elvira has done but I recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys a good laugh.
Oh by the way I have an autographed copy of this DVD.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely awful Review: I should say that I LOVED the first Elvira film. A classic camp, ridiculous comedy! I was SO excited when I heard a new film had come out. Wow - was this the biggest let down! Its appalling - beyond bad. Its not even so bad it's good - its just BAD. Elvira is Elvira- the blame doesn't necessarily lie with her. the co-stars are awful (Richard O'Brien should just bask in his Rocky glory - obviously a one-off), and the direction is terrible - I dont think the director has any understanding of comedy. However - judging from the other reviews here, its obviously a love or hate film...
