Summary: A LOT FUNNIER THAN EXPECTED!
Review: "LUCKY NUMBERS" didn't do big numbers in its theatrical release but is worth a look if you're in the mood for a rowdy, raunchy heist farce. John Travolta is big fish TV weatherman in a small Pennsylvania pond. Beset with financial woes -- his snowmobile dealership is not doing well during an unpredictably warm winter -- so he teams up the Lisa Kudrow, the station's angry, sleep-around lottery girl, and with the help of wanna be gangster and strip bar owner Tim Roth, they devise a plan to rip off the state lottery. Things quickly go very bad. And get much worse. Not quite up to the Coen brothers, but a lot funnier than most alleged comedies. Nora Ephron directs an Adam Resnick screenplay supposedly based on a real incident. Unexpectedly funny. But Travolta will have to do many more little gems like this to make up for the pain and suffering his fans endured in "Battlefield Earth."

Review: "What was he thinking?" was all I could think while watching this ... This is, without a doubt, John Travolta's worst movie since 1978's Moment by Moment with Lily Tomlin. The script is [weak] and the performances are lackluster. Lisa Kudrow, as in every role she plays, is downright annoying with her ever present snarling lip. Travolta is too talented an actor to waste his time on [stuff]like this. It's more suited to a ...comic like Rob Schneider or Adam Sandler. Director Nora Ephron also loses some credibility for having anything to do with this film. ...

Summary: great characters and performances
Review: As a movie it just didn't quite meld together. Don't know if it could have been improved in the editing room or not. However, that aside, the characters and performances (esp. Kudrow) by the great cast was hysterical and well worth the price of rental.

Summary: Same old story......with a weak twist
Review: Disappointment. That sums up this movie. I went into this one with little expectations and it couldn't even meet those. The plot was ridiculously simple and the acting was incredibly bland. The overall premise of a guy down on his luck who resorts to a criminal undertaking and then halfway through the movie realizes he's in over his head has been used and abused. Two thumbs down to Travolta for taking the role. He acted great, but the movie as a whole just wasn't that good. Sorry, 2 stars

Review: I just loved this movie, I think that it is very funny. John Travolta sure was the perfect actor for his place in this movie. I thought that with Lisa Kudrow starring in this movie, then it would be funnier than any other movie... You have to get this movie, you will never regret it.

Review: I loved this movie, but it tanked so bad at the box office, and got some bad reviews, I rented it to see it again because I loved it, but also to see if it wasn't as good as I remembered. It was BETTER than I remembered. It just hilarious, very well written and well acted and directed. A lot of reviews below are bad. I think if you don't like this TYPE of movie you're not going to like it. Some people didn't like RAISING ARIZONA, another dark comedy about sleazy but LIKABLE characters. I loved RAISING ARIZONA. So if you liked that, you may like this. Obvious diverse opinion about this movie...but I LOVED it.

Summary: Another disappointing film for Travolta
Review: I think highly of John Travolta as an actor. After being one of the hottest properties in the eighties, he virtually disappeared for five years and then spent another four years with nothing more substantial than three "Look Who's Talking" movies. Then at 40 years of age, he took an enormous gamble with "Pulp Fiction", making a triumphant comeback and never looking back. Unfortunately, 2000 was not a good year for Travolta. After the lackluster "Battlefield Earth", he needed a project that would help him regain his momentum. This film wasn't it. "Lucky Numbers" is a dark comedy about two hapless employees of a local Harrisburg TV station who try to fix the state lottery. The screenplay is goofy and has a TV sitcom feel to it. The majority of the jokes don't work. Director Nora Ephron ("Sleepless in Seattle", "Michael", "You've Got Mail") is a talented director, but quirky slapstick is not her strong suit. She does much better with schmaltzy romantic projects. Travolta hasn't played a character this vacuous since Vinnie Barbarino in "Welcome Back, Kotter". It is a definite step backward for him, since he has proven himself an excellent dramatic actor. His performance isn't terrible, the character is. For Lisa Kudrow, this is the same ditzy character she has been playing for years, only with a liberal dose of profanity. She does a good job, but the character is extremely predictable with little range. Ed O'Neill is droll as the station manager who tries to cut himself in on the caper. Tim Roth and Bill Pullman add some supporting flavor, delivering good performances with a couple of oddball characters. This film has plenty of talent, but a weak script. I rated it 5/10. It is not awful, but it is extremely mediocre and it didn't provide Travolta with an opportunity to redeem his year.

Summary: Its The Little Things
Review: I went to see this movie it's opening weekend back in October. I am not a fan of John Travolta but I am a huge Lisa Kudrow fan. Its been six months since the release of this film and without ever viewing this again, I went out and bought it. I didn't really remember that much about it. I just remembered in one of the first things when Lisa Kudrow's character Christal tripped and the look on her face and I knew I had to buy this movie. That is how it is for the entire movie. There arent ALOT of really funny moments but there are enought to easily get you through the movie. Lisa Kudrow is great as Christal, a snobby Lotto girl, who seems to be sleeping with everyone. Bill Pullman is hilarious as a lazy cop. I recommend this to anyone who wants something a little different than the mainstream comedies that seem to be more popular. This was funny in its own, original way. As for the DVD itself, there arent alot of special features but I guess in the end, all you need is the movie.

Summary: These reviews are all false...
Review: I'm dumbfounded by some of the reviews this page...guess they just didn't "get" it. This film is hilarious. It's clever, witty and extremely entertaining. Travolta is classic as the pathetic "gameshow-host wannabe" weather man. The characters are so well defined and so sadly pathetic in their own ways - it's what makes the film such a classic comedy. It's unbelievable that more people have not caught on to it. If you liked the Big Lebowski, Orange County, the Cable Guy - any film with esoteric characterization, you will absolutely love this film. It's a dark comedy people, get over it.
