Rating: Summary: Tedious is the word... Review: ...for this one. The only good thing about it is that Russell Crowe is in it (though he doesn't look like his heart or mind was engaged in this story). So if you simply must see everything he ever did, rent it, don't buy it.I can only imagine that whatever intelligence he must have seen in the script that made him sign on for this project did not end up on the screen.
Rating: Summary: Get a thesaurus... Review: ...now look up awful. There are not words to describe this crime against cinema. I like both Russ and Selma, but I'd like to know what the hell they were thinking when they committed to this script. Did the filmmakers tell them they'd be the ONLY TWO PEOPLE IN THE ENTIRE STUPID MOVIE?!? The filmmakers should be ashamed of themselves. Look into your hearts, filmmakers...Why do you even bother?
Rating: Summary: Salma gives good body Review: A pleasant film if you like to ogle Salma Hayek's bod. Otherwise, it's a not-so-intersting story about break-ups. The best part is when Russel Crowe licks Salma's toes right in the beginning. It's all down hill from there.
Rating: Summary: Pretty much the dumbest movie I've ever seen! Review: And what is with Russell Crowe's "dialect" if you can call it that. Initially sounding half Austrailian and half South of the border, it evolves into something from the South Bronx or an early version of his "Insider" character- Jeffrey Wigand. Salma Hayek's character (did they even have names; I can't recall) wonders if there was a reason for them to be together. Sadly, there wasn't, nor was there a reason to make this movie.
Rating: Summary: Realistic Relationship Ups and Downs Review: Finally a movie that depicts real relationship dialogue during its ups and downs. Bottom line: you can be sexually charged by your significant other - even love them - but it doesn't mean that Mr. or Mrs. Wonderful is Mr. or Mrs. RIGHT. Thumbs up to Russell Crowe and Salma Hayek for oblivious digging through past personal relationships to deliver such affecting performances - you can't "act" that. A "must see" movie for persons going through the emotional ups and downs of relationships.
Rating: Summary: Good movie but they should have kept the original VHS cover Review: have you seen the original VHS cover? it screams sexy! When they converted the movie to DVD they made it seem sad. just go to the VHS version and take a look. There's a shot of sexy salma lying on a bed talking on the phone in a tight top giving you come hither looks! Also a nice romantic shot of the couple. the front cover text reads When the sex is great. When the passion is intense. When the love is strong. It's time for... Breaking Up now that's sexy! The DVD on the other hand is sad, sad, melancholy. two forlorn lovers. they have that same shot on the VHS version, but it's on the back on the box, not the front cover. They completely removed all the text. Also on the disk itself they show them arguing. this is sexy Salma. I don't want to see a picture of her arguing on the disk!(there is some of that in the movie, but there is also a lot of making out!) They kept a slightly different shot of them on the inside cover, but it's not exactly the same powerful shot used on the VHS cover. Also they say something like "Rich in both comic asides and emotional fisticuffs, Crowe and Hayek are perfectly matched" matched? fisticuffs?! what happened to the sexy stuff? I have noticed they are getting rid of a lot of the sex appeal in movies that used to be acceptable and commonplace when they convert a movie to DVD now(2004). politically correct. just show their heads. They frown on showing anything too sexy now. Unlike prior to the mid 90s when it was ok to show sex appeal. But the DVD picture quality is great, so that is a fantastic improvement over VHS . Good movie.
Rating: Summary: Give it a break! Review: Hey guys, give this poor little flick a break! In the first place, if you are a Russell Crowe fan, I think you'll just like watching him because, darlings, he's at least half of what's on the screen at a given time. Yes, many of the criticisms in the other reviews are valid, but my husband and I...married 38 years this summer...saw ourselves all through the movie. (He cried at the ending.)I think anyone who's been in any kind of long-term relationship could get something from it. Okay, the "talking to the screen" bits are annoying. I felt the "man-on-the-street" interviews were relaxed but went on a bit too long, yadda, yadda, yadda. This will not be on anybody's list of top 5 or even top 100 ever, but any movie where Russell Crowe licks someone's toes has to be worth a look-see and given a little slack!
Rating: Summary: For Russell Crowe fans Review: Honestly, I watched this movie for Russell Crowe. If that's why you're here, rent the movie and watch the first ten minutes. After he's finished licking Salma Hayek's toes, hit rewind, then play. Repeat a dozen times, then return the movie. The story is sour and depressing, and follows a doomed relationship. There are enough doomed relationships in the real world that I can't find a fictional one entertaining. On the plus side, Russell does a nice subtle New York accent.
Rating: Summary: What a waste Review: I don't mean Salma, because she still hasn't proven she can act. I think she can, but honestly, we have yet to see it, and if she keeps making nonsensical movies where all she does is flaunt her bod, it ain't gonna happen. I mean Russell, who can do so much better than this drivel. And I mean me, who wasted 99 cents on the rental fee.
Rating: Summary: A Stinker! Review: I love Russell Crowe as an actor, but even he couldn't save this stinker of a movie. This has to be one of the worst films I've ever seen. After the first 10 minutes, you've seen it all, and it just repeats itself over and over and over again. Avoid this one, folks!
