Rating: Summary: Dingle Dingle Dingle!!... Review: ...is just one of the many over-the-top lines heard in this great film portrayal about the life of novelist Jacqueline Susann. Most of the reviews say the acting is overdone...ok, I concede that. But thats the way Miss Susann lived much of her life, and Bette Midler is really the only actress I know who can act pushy enough to pull this role off...and she does so in a great way. The first point she really shows her stuff is in the game show scene where she really does a great job of telling off the ditzy dumb blond actress she has to sit with (although later in the film, she actually befriends her!) Her emotional conversations with God and visits with her autistic son bring out the more touching moments of the film. Also, watch carefully the scene at the Waldorf...you'll catch a glimpse of Eugene Levy (the father in the movie American Pie) sitting at one of the guest tables! Why can't I give this film 5 stars? Only because I thought some things were left out that could have added to the quality of the film...such as Susann's passionate involvement with Ethel Merman, and the time spent writing her other stories (this movie focuses exclusively on Valley of the Dolls and says little about her other works). Still, this film is a great choice when you've seen all the blockbuster DVDs and can't decide what else to get...watch and you won't regret it...even if you know nothing of Jacqueline Susann or her novels, this movie will make you want to find out more!
Rating: Summary: Could have been better...much better Review: 2 things were wasted in the making of this film: the fabulous life of Jacqueline Susann and the tremendous talent of Bette Midler. The director must have been asleep at the wheel of had his mind elsewhere but the filming. The film seemed disjointed in every sense. There have been dramedies that have been successful but the marriage of drama and comedy isn't compatible in this film. Also, the musical direction in this film is poor! Akay, so Burt Bacharach wrote the song from the first Jackie Susann movie, VALLEY OF THE DOLLS. However, his music just didn't fit with the LIFE of Jacqueline Susann or even the movie. Stockard Channing glows in this film and hers is the stand-out performance. The costumes are amazing and vividly depict the fashions of times and then some. Bette looks great in the retro look. Hopefully, someone can remake this film properly. The life of Jackie Susann should be told, whether it be a comedy or a drama. Unfortunately, this version is not worthy of storytelling.

Rating: Summary: Isn't it Great? Review: Alright, it totally bombed at the theatres. I can see why, the acting is a little too "OVER DONE" for the modern crowd. However, this film is a masterpeice in some ways. First, the script. "Isn't She Great" has incredible dialogue. I saw this movie 2 times in the theatre just to catch all the great words that are being flung at each other throughout this under rated movie. Yes I am a very big Bette Midler fan, however that is not the only reason that this movie scores high in my books. The lighting is great, along with fabulous costumes and breathtaking locals. (My home town of MONTREAL!) Anyway, see this movie for the dialogue, for the chemistry between characters, and most of of all, for the simple joy of seeing Bette Midler, Nathan Lane, Stocking Channing, and John Cleese on the same set together!
Rating: Summary: Isn't She Embarrassed! Review: As a loyal Midler fan I rented this disapointment of a film. It does not serve as a bioflick or a comedy. I am amazed at the graciousness of the reviews here. Simply put this film is an embarrassment to all involved. There is a terrific cast and an able writer but it all comes to nothing. Bette doesn't seem to know if she's in Big Business or For The Boys! I love Bette but she overacts and it is hard to watch. Every joke falls flat and it's pathetic attempt at sentiment rings false and forced. What were they thinking when they made this film? The critics were right this time around. This deserved to be a bomb in the theaters and yes, in your home.
Rating: Summary: Bette Midler as Jacqueline Susan. Doesn't work too well Review: As I heard one critic say, it would've been better if someone such as Stockard Channing who gives a satisfactory supporting performance here would have played the title character. THe movie is first of all too campy for Bette's popularity as well as too serious for her brassy, outlandish which works very rarely in dramas as it did in THE ROSE, BEACHES and FOR THE BOYS (the best dramas of her career). Nathan Lane as the husband? EXCUSE ME. He is a good actor but doesn't work well in this role. The rest of the supporting cast do a good job in the brief appearances they make as Bette and Nathan dominate most of the film. Bette does a good job but someone better could have filled this role. Bette does have a chance to show some of her witty humor but not too often. More entertaining if you are a fan of one of the stars or even better if you're a Jackie fan.
Rating: Summary: Hillarious biogriphical romp Review: Before you dive into this review, I must point out a few details about the others: those who gave this film a "bad" review (which it certainly does not deserve) are either one, two, or all three of the following: (1): They either did not understand it, (2): They need inexplicable raunchy and bathroom humor for a movie to be "funny", or (3): They are very depressed. Who said that Stockard Channing would be great as Jacqueline? Just so you know, they also said that Miss Channing would look the role? Honestly, did they watch the same movie? This movie is hillarious. A true gem in the motion picture category. Bette Midler is absolutely hillarious as the awesomely witty, edgey, and modern autor of the all time pop culture novel, "Valley of the Dolls. Nathan Lane makes a beautiful man out of Irving Mansfiled, Jackie's loving husband, and Stockard Channing makes a mad cap and georgeussly funny role out of Florence Maybell, true life personality of film, TV, and radio. The 60's are brought out devinely, glamour, and juiciness make this movie what it is. It is awesomely triumphant in explainging Jackie's want for fame and her self made climb to the delicious top. Hillarious, sad, beautiful, well acted, and with a considerable amount of fabulous comedic acting, Isn't She Great is not one to miss.

Rating: Summary: Aren't the critic's not so great? Review: Critics should put aside Madonna's Marcia Brady-like interpretation of American Pie and give this another wirl. This time with a sense of humor! Bette shines in every scene as the incompromisable Jaqueline Susann. Each scene was colorful, entertaining and filled with drama. Costumes are just...Yeah! Not to mention Stockard Channing! Isn't SHE great? P.S. Much better than Drowning Mona! Sorry Mona.
Rating: Summary: Isn't She Great Review: Enjoyed this film because of its light and entertaining nature. The wardrobe and props (i.e. retro furniture) were SUPERB.
