Summary: Great Movie But Disappointing DVD.....
Review: Remade many times, Chris Rock's new version of a tale about people allowed a second chance on Earth after premature death is a lighthearted and hilarious film. Some of the new aspects I enjoyed with this remake were the theme of a black man getting a white man's life in his second chance on Earth, the main character's (Chris Rock) life revolving around a career in stand-up comedy and the image of heaven as an exclusive nightclub with an Italian Frank Sinatra wannabe as the boss.

If you're not familiar with Chris Rock you're missing out. Rock is one of the best comedians today but the entire cast gives a wonderful performance with great supporting roles such as Wanda Sykes in the role of a bitter and stubborn maid. "Down to Earth" mixes in a nice romantic tale that leaves you with a happy ending and enjoyable cinema experience. The only negative comment I have about the movie is the short length. The movie lasts 87 minute and seems to end quickly but perhaps thats because it's also a good and deep enough film that you wish it would go on.

In DVD version, the movie is a disappointment. The only additional options included (besides audio setup and scene selection) are a theatrical trailer and a ten minute "Behind the Scenes" clip that resembles something you would see on HBO. Considering the DVD price, if you don't have an objection towards mixing your DVD collection with VHS movies, I'd recommend this movie on VHS if you can find a bargain price for it. Besides the sound/video quality and scene selection option, you're almost buying the same version on DVD that you would on VHS.

Summary: A nice 90 minutes if you're looking to relax and laugh
Review: So, maybe this movie doesn't fully mine its comedic possibilities. Still, the talented comedians who make up the cast make it worth watching. The cast is amazing: Chris Rock, Eugene Levy, Jennifer Coolidge and one of my favorites: the incomparable Wanda Sykes. Like always, Wanda Sykes steals every scene she's in (and she's not in nearly enough).

Chriss Rock plays a young not-up-and-coming comedian, Lance. One of heaven's top angels makes a mistake and lets Lance die before his time. To make it up to him, Lance is given a new body -- one that belongs to a white and grouchy unpopular multimillionaire. Lance goes about righting the curmudgeon's wrongs, dumps his slutcherous gold-digger wife and finds a real down to earth love interest. He also improves on Lance's comedy career. With the cast, the movie could have been brilliant. Instead, it's simply entertaining, but not memorable (except for Wanda Sykes.) But, it fits the bill if you want to just relax and unwind and have a few belly laughs. The DVD includes a 10 minute "Behind the scenes," but it offers few insights. I would say this one is a "renter."

Summary: I had tears in my eyes...
Review: That is how funny parts of this movie are.

There definately is something about Chris Rock's humor... that is the way he presents it. His style is absolutely one of the greatest of any comedian currently in showbiz.

If you havent taken the time to see this movie yet, do it soon.

For a good laugh, you can always rely on Chris Rock.

Summary: CHRIS is BACK, but he's not BIGGER and BLACKER...
Review: The creators of AMERICAN PIE bring you CHRIS ROCK (Lethal Weapon 4, Dogma) as a black cool guy who suddenly gets caught... by a bus! In so happening, he dies a little too early, by forty four years... But ROCK comes back, but he's not black this time!!! He lands in the body of a rich white man- already you can expect the humor building up...

Well without giving anymore away, I'm just gonna say-

"CHRIS ROCK is hilarious, DOWN TO EARTH is super-charged with DIE HARD laughing!!! 9/10 STARS."- MJV & the Movies

Summary: SOmething is wrong with Rock here..
Review: The idea is good, some scenes are great, but Rock's acting is weird here. It's like he was not comfortable with the character and his dialogues, or something else... weird...

Summary: NICE TRY...BUT NO CIGAR...
Review: This is a disappointing remake of a remake. Chris Rock is an extremely funny guy, except in this movie. He has a pallid script with which to work that does not let his humour shine through, except for infrequent glimpses. He is unable to carry this torpid film. Though he tries, he is hampered by the lack of chemistry between him and his female co-star, in addition to a bad script. It just doesn't work overall, though not for lack of trying. Chris is a funny guy, but when it comes to films, he has yet to prove that he can carry one.

Review: this is one funny movie! Chris rock is a funny man and he went all out here. It doesnt have great special features mut it is still worth it to buy. It is fun for the whole family. It is a very mild PG-13 so it is apropriate for anyone over 8 about as long as they are smart otherwise they might not get some of it.
Buy it, watch it, enjoy it.

Summary: One Heck of a comedy!
Review: This is one heck of a comedy, including the cast: Chris Rock, Regina King, Eugene Levy, Frankie Faison, Mark Addy, Greg Germann, Jennifer Coolidge, and Chazz Palmiteri. Why it's better than the original 1973 classic "Heaven Can Wait." To bad Lance Bartman is dead, and so is Charles Wellington III. I like the part where Wellington/Bartman (Rock/Rhodes), got punched by that thug, and when that maid kept cursing badly about Wellington. You should also vote Chris Rock for "Best On-Screen Team," with Chazz Palmiteri, and Eugene Levy, "Best Comedic Performance," (also nominate Eugene Levy too,) and "Best Kiss" with Regina King. I give it a perfect 5. If you want to see Chris Rock, and his funny self you can see him in "Osmosis Jones" as Osmosis Jones, and If you want to Eugene Levy and his funny self, you can see him as the Los Angeles Knights basketball manager Frank Bernard in "Like Mike."
