Summary: Amanda Bynes is a real doll
Review: Wow, if the term "living doll" ever applied to anyone, it applies to this little cutie Amanda bynes, I think I'm in love. This movie is also very sweet and perfect for teens, kids, or adults. As a matter a fact it's a good family film. With a good modern story line, that many people can relate to, yet it has a good deal of fantasy to it, and that's what makes it charming, and reminds me of a movie from my youth called Cinderella Jones.

Summary: "What a Girl Wants" was not exactly what was wanted...
Review: When Henry Dashwood (Colin Firth) and Libby Reynolds (Kelly Preston) met in Morocco, it seemed like fate. Falling madly in love with each other, they marry and life seems perfect. That is until Henry and Libby through lies and deceptions are separated, Libby leaving for the States while Henry stays on in London. Little did Henry know that Libby was pregnant with Daphne (Amanda Bynes). Now seventeen-years-old, Daphne decides she's tired of waiting for her father and leaves for England, where Henry is now Lord Dashwood and a politically powerful figure setting up a campaign to earn a seat in Parliament. What follows is a tale of how a young girl and her father discover their true selves and find happiness. Conclusively falling under the category of a 'teen Cinderella story', "What a Girl Wants" also ultimately falls into the doomed, classic genre of 'a cliched and utterly lifeless movie'. There have been several movies where the Cinderella premise works beautifully, the film which most comes to mind being "The Princess Diaries". Yet while "The Princess Diaries" was like a breath of fresh air, "What a Girl Wants" reeked with the stench of a plot so stale, it was hard not to gag at numerous scenes. Whenever there comes up a scene where Daphne 'livens things up', I just wanted to groan and think, "Here we go again..." But more importantly, it is the weak cast with their even weaker characters which adds mostly to the downfall of this film. For example, let me list up just a few of many stereotypical semi-minor characters this movie delivers: *The evil Glynnis Payne (Anna Chancellor) who has every intention of marrying Lord Dashwood for his power and money.
*The equally evil daughter of the evil Glynnis, Clarisse Payne (Christina Cole) who will stop at nothing to make sure Daphne doesn't feel like she belongs.
*The most evil of them all, Alistaire Payne (Jonathan Pryce), Lord Dashwood's chief advisor who had much to do with the deception that tore Henry and Libby apart.
*And most sadly, though Oliver James was an amazingly talented singer, his character of Ian Wallace whom Daphne falls for is the formula boyfriend; very poor yet has a heart of gold. And just exactly were the writers thinking of when they added such inane characters such as Peach and Pear Orwood, the dimwitted twins, and Lord Orwood (Roger Ashton-Griffiths) the stuffy aristocrat? As for Amanda Bynes, she is definitely very cute and is quite energetic, but Bynes suffers in that her character of Daphne is quite two-dimensional, leaving no room for her to really act. By now, you are wondering, "So why is this Priscilla Stafford giving this movie two stars if this movie stunk?" Well, here's the reason: Colin Firth is what makes this film worth two stars. Every time he comes on screen, he makes you forget the inane plot and concentrate on his character of Henry Dashwood who is searching for true happiness. Here is an actor who puts strength behind a somewhat bland character and makes you eventually fall in love with him. With his British accent, incredible acting talent, and charmingly good looks, Colin Firth is what makes the movie worth the watch at all. Kelly Preston, too, was not that bad in her role. Sadly, she doesn't have enough film time but when she and Colin Firth are together, they dazzle the screen. It's a shame the movie didn't focus more on them. To finish up, "What a Girl Wants" is nothing new. The ending is semi-good but doesn't give you that 'happy-happy' feeling most chick flicks give out and SHOULD give out. There are a few laughs during the film yet they seem few and sparse between. Teens might enjoy the loud pop music which is heard throughout the whole movie. Strictly for pre-teen girls, "What a Girl Wants" is probably exactly what it is, only what girls want. Unless of course it's really Colin Firth you want then maybe you should watch this movie. But if you REALLY want Colin Firth, instead watch "The Importance of Being Earnest" or even the BBC miniseries "Pride and Prejudice". In those movies you'll REALLY see Colin Firth shine, and that is what we really want, isn't it? ^_^

Review: i just read these reviews wat is wrong with u ppls this is a great movie i luved it it was the best movie i have evr saw o if u were wonderin oliver james (ian) was really singin and by the way all u ppls trashin this movie dont know how much work they put it to it and they did put alot of work into it u can tell it is the best that is y i gave it 5 stars ***** it is soo kool i think evr one should go buy this movie now y not i did i rented it i bought it i think that any 1 who dose not like this movie must be CRAZY just like i said it the last review i wrote plus Amanda Bynes is a great actress i am not just sayin that she is she is so great on WAT I LIKE ABOUT U that show is great and i really should have said koolsome that is a word that me and my B.F(Best Friend) made up about how kool this movie is we made up alot of really kool words on this movie so i think that someone needs to do somthin cause this movie is great and no 1 needs to be trashin it even if u dont like it y right a review wat if some 1 listend to u and they did not rent it but if they did rent it wat if they would of liked it the ppls need a chance to bye the movie thanx for readin this ttyl o if u go and see the other reviews u will see my other one it is all about oliver james (aka Ian) he is hott

Summary: Pretty Cute, but...
Review: Th I liked it a lot, except for one huge problem. Amanda Bynes, Daphne Reynolds in the movie, can't act to save her life. With the huge launching of all these new teen actresses that are all the rage now, it makes sense that there's going to one in the bunch that sucks. Well, Amanda Bynes is that one. She was really awful in the movie, and it would have been much better if someone else had stepped in. She was trying to act all cute, but ended up just looking fake. Plus, I really felt that they were trying to take advantage of her all-too-cute body by squeezing her into skin-tight shirts that left absolutely nothing to the imagination All in all, it was a sweet movie though, and I like the fact that she didn't have to change who she was just to please her father. The plot was a little silly though; some aspects of it just couldn't have happened.Oh, and by the way, Oliver James, who plays Ian Wallace, so incredibly good-looking.

Review: Wow,I was very impressed with this movie. Amanda Bynes was so awesome,and whoever the guy was that played her boyfriend,well,he's a really good actor! I love Daphne's upbeat personality,and the way she is just herself..........except when she tries to be a good British girl! The coolest thing about this movie is what Ian says to Daphne while they're in the boat. (I won't say what it is.......you have to watch the movie to find out!) It's now my friends' and mine motto! All in all,this is a great slumber party movie for girls! I definately reccomend it!

Summary: What A Dumb movie...
Review: This movie was terrible. I felt like the plot was very dry and the acting was absolutly pitiful. Amanda Bynes is cute but she was overly annoying and her character was just irritating and it was hard to emotionally connect with her. The little Cinderella-like plot twists were just boring and have been done over and over again. I also thought that the "wicked stepmother to be and stepsister to be" should have gotten more of a public humiliation because they were so rude and It made me so mad that Amanda Bynes didn't tell anyone that her stepmother locked her in a room during the party. That was just stupid and any normal human being would have been freaking out about it. Overall I felt like I was watching a made for tv movie on the lifetime network. This was just awful. Not worth renting and certainly not worth buying! If you are bored and it comes on tv sometime then maybe check it out but you will probably be bored out of your mind and feel the same way I do in the end...

Summary: What are you doing here, Mr. Firth?
Review: Once upon a time, Colin Firth played character named Tommy Judd and said things like "All problems solved for life. No commies and no queers". Then he grew up to be Mr. Darcy. There were different roles in between and beyond. But one has to wonder what are you doing in this movie, Mr. Firth? To give the movie some class? Perhaps. Or to get the mothers to go to see it with their daughters? Or Maybe Mr. Firth has his children's tuitions to pay. But being Mr. Firth, he did a fantastic job playing Lord Dashwood. Never mind the leather pants, someone has to do it. He is no doubt a true professional, always delivers. If it was not for Mr. Firth, I would have missed a lesson in the bad movie making. Ms. Bynes! What can I say? She is so FAKE, it is just painful to see her act adorable, cute and etc. There are very talent young actresses, she is not one of them. I hope she will improve over the years. IT is such a shame that the supporting cast is just wonderful. What a waste of talents for such a movie. IS the movie industry to be blamed for giving such junk to the younger movie goers or the other way? I just realized how lucky I was to watch Mr. Firth playing Tommy Judd when I was a teenager.
