Summary: Dancer(Ft. Davis) TX is "sweet" movie of growing up in TX.
Review: My first real trip to Texas was to Ft. Davis just as this movie was being released which I had to wait to return to Stow, OH to see. It is a wonderful reminder of this small TX town and the countryside. It is an almost wholesome view of growing up and the choices that present themselves just as fledgling maturity rears its head. It is simplistic which adds to it's charm. The focus on the young men graduating from high school deciding whether to stay or go to seek their "fortune" blurr the view of the only female graduate who opts for the traditional female roll. It is worth a look!

Summary: THE BEST MOVIE WE'VE EVER SEEN!
Review: my friend and i just got finished watching this movie for the first time, and trust me, not the last. we thought every part of it was sooo cute and funny and sweet. it had the best plot and the actors were excellent. they all fit with their roles so well and portrayed every aspect of a large city in one little bundle. first there was the freak, squirrel, who in a large city would have kept to himself and had no friends. then there was the rich popular guy, terri lee, who would have been the snob in the large city, so much higher than everyone else. next was the cool guy, played by breckin meyer, with his fly swatting grandfather, who would have been friends with anyone. finally there was john, the cowboy, his own man. all of them would not have associated with each, had it been a large city, but each of their classic traits triumphantly brought together made every scene of the movie adorable and perfect. we plan to watch it so often, that we will memorize every line. and we now consider it our favorite movie. it was great!

Summary: Funny and touching; beautiful cinematography
Review: Shot on location in Fort Davis, Texas, this is an amusing and heartfelt look at friendship, growing up, and the uncertainties of the future. Four high school buddies (comprising 80% of the graduating class!), dissatisfied with their small west Texas town, have made a pact that they will leave for California on the first bus after graduation day. Over the course of the weekend before the bus leaves, the friends learn that even the most sincerely-made plans sometimes change and that their close-knit little town may not be such a bad place after all. The four male leads are good and funny (watch for the scene with Squirrel in the church choir; it is hilarious!), and Ashley Johnson (formerly the little sister on Growing Pains)gives a very good supporting performance as an awkward adolescent sibling. The widescreen cinematography is absolutely beautiful with great shots of the Davis Mountains and wide-open ranchland. This is an excellent family film.

Review: The movie depicts the compassion and pressures inherent in a small community with unparrelled acuity. A place where all classes are forced into contact with each other for the general betterment of all. "Dancer" also highlights the rich and intricate personal and social workings of small town life. The movie beats what the big studios have offered in the last 2 or 3 years.

Review: The movie really captured the life in west Texas. Anyone who left a small town to go to the city will love it, especially if that small town is in Texas. West Texas is beautiful but lonely. The characters are great, and it is a movie that the whole family will enjoy. It is a must see!

Summary: Pure Delight Found In Simple Story
Review: There's not a great deal of depth to the story told in this film, but there is a great deal of richness in it's simplicity. When four of the five graduating seniors (biggest graduating class in 20 years) receive their diploma's, they'll be packing there bags, getting on the bus, and leaving Dancer for Los Angeles, Population 13 million... or so they've planned since they were 12. The richness comes from the other 77 residents of Dancer who are all placing bets on how many (if any) of the youth will make the journey. Some of the very best moments come from the misguided impressions and fears the townspeople have of LA, "I'd be frightened by the earthquakes. They have one every few days and in between there's fires, floods, and riots."Dancer, Texas Pop. 81 is a delightful film. Well worth watching!

Review: This hillbilly, trailer-trash film is not recommended for those who don't eat their drumsticks with the feet still on. The plot is to contrived; the film lacks imagination.

Review: This is a nice little film about small town Texas life. It's realistic, touching and funny. Was pleased to learn from "Fort Davis" that the town's real-life residents were used in the filming! The grandfather role was my favorite little "slice of life" from the film. This IS a film about people and their relationships with one another. If you have a Jean Claude Van Damme length attention span and prefer explosions and car chases to well-written dialogue, this movie isn't for you. Good performances from the group of young actors: you can see them paired up again in Can't Hardly Wait. Though that film has a much different character than Dancer, it's fun to see the actors together again!
