Summary: the paintings are incredible
Review: and i have worn out a local video rental copy showing them to artist friends. it is a simple romp of a movie that i could easily pass by except for the old house set and the paintings. I keep hoping for my own copy. or maybe a copy of the calendar?

Summary: If I could give it anything below 1 star, I would!
Review: Dabney Coleman, Uma Thurman, and Christopher Plummmer severly damage their careers in this horrible excuse for a comedy! Great idea for a story, but this hideous film sends it all straight to hell!

Summary: lovely
Review: just caught this movie on hbo, and was hoping to buy it here on Amazon as I thought is was incredibly beautiful. Story maybe not the strongest, but enjoyable. What got me was the unbelievably enchanting "human" paintings. It's nice to see a movie that for once gives space to visual art, and gives the viewer the time to appreciate it. For this alone I would like to own this movie.

Summary: where the heart is dvd
Review: Just to let anyone know, this dvd is a widescreen edition. Which (to me) is the most important feature. If you were hoping for any bonus features, there are none (not even the trailer). The movie itself, and the fact that it is in widescreen, should be enough reason to purchase it.

Summary: Give it a Chance!
Review: Now keep in mind I saw this movie when I was younger, but when I saw it I loved it I thought it was great and soon after became an Uma Thurman fan. I have been looking fo this movie for years now and I am very happy I found it. I plan to purchase it and watch it again and will write another review if my views have changed.

Summary: I hope you appreciate the things I do for you, David Hewlett
Review: The blurb on the back of this DVD made it sound kind of appealing: rich dad kicks his spoiled-rotten kids out of the house and into a "historic building" in order to force them to become adults. Unfortunately, the film turned out to be nearly unwatchable; pretty much every performance is over the top, the situations are more absurd than comedic, and it's difficult to actually care about any of the characters, they're so irritating. Though our fledgling grown-ups constantly fret about money, they don't actually seem to have any problems finding it, considering that they're able to paint their house, buy food, and do pretty much all of the things that you really don't do when you're living in poverty. And unfortunately there's not enough depth to any of these characters to make you believe them as real people, much less care what happens to them.

The only people who stand out in this film -- and by "stand out" I mean that they delivered performances which were not 100% overblown 100% of the time -- were David Hewlett and Crispin Glover. I've seen both do tremendous work elsewhere, but unfortunately with this script and this cast, neither is able to really shine.

Summary: love it
Review: This movie is alot of fun. The trompe l'oeil paintings are just incredible. I hope it becomes available soon. I'm still looking to buy it.

Summary: sweet film...
Review: This really is a sweet film. Not the strongest plot mind you, if you're looking for something complex. But beautifully done. Anyone the least bit artistically inclined will enjoy the imagery. And I for one can relate to Uma's character trying to pound her way back into the house after Dad (Dabney) has struck a deal and moved the kids out. My parents had my bed apart 20 minutes BEFORE I left for college. Tee-hee... Eagerly awaiting the DVD release (hint hint)...

Summary: Where the art is
Review: Where the heart is was an unexpected surprise when I saw it back in 1990 and it continues to catch my breath and stir my heart every time I see it. More than a story of poor little rich and spoiled kids or parents that just don't get their kids, this is a visually beautiful and fluid portrait of vastly different people. Some start out as family members and some join the family. The exploration and expressions of love and the true treasures of life are richly set in the artwork that flows across the screen and unites the story. A real treat for both the eye and the mind, it will delight the heart, wherever it is.
