Rating: Summary: Not exactly funny Review: Funny Farm has mixed reviews because thats what kind of a movie it is. It looks like the film starts out funny with the movers, then you meet the old guy who gives poor directions in his rocking chair, then the cop who rides in a taxi cab, then there is Chevy Chase and his wife. The first 25-30 minutes are pretty amusing then the movie looses its touch and gets dull and slows down. The interesting characters seem to leave the movie the movers are gone and even the funny cop leaves the movie. You are left with a drunk mailman and Chevy Chase and his wife. Overall there is nothing really funny in this movie its not fall to floor humor where you will be laughing so hard you'll start crying, its nothing like that I give it two stars because it does follow some sort of a story line but like I said its not a thrilling ride of laughter there is some humor here and there.
Rating: Summary: movie to see over and over again Review: Funny Farm is a movie I get out when I want to see something light and funny. I have watched this movie at least 25 times. It is interesting why I watch it over and over again. Perhaps it is the simple story and the pureness of the theme. Perhaps it is the lady who gets her first story published. Perhaps it is because I see myself in this movie. The only offensive part is when Chevy Chase swears saying God_____. Oh how unnecessary that was. Worth buying in this world full of awful movies and certainly better than watching television with all it's doom and gloom. I think most people are great individuals and this movie makes that statement too. too.
Rating: Summary: Pretty good movie but a dull dvd Review: Funny Farm is a pretty good "little movie" even at the time when it came out in 1988 Hollywood was really beginning to stop making simple films like this. You won't find any special effects, nudity, but just a few bad words are found in this film but it is mostly a pretty good clean film that is sure worth viewing. Although the film is delightful it has cracks and holes in it all over the place. First I see Chevy Chase in this film as Clark Griswold it seems like Beverly D'Angelo should be his wife here because Chase's character is just to similar to his role in the Vacation movies. I started to see more of what the film was trying to say near the end but all through the film it constantly has jokes that fizzle and the plot had so much potential. Also the film needed more people in it even though Chevy Chase and Madolyn Smith are great we really don't know the other people to well in that town you see them but Who are they? For instance those teenagers who tear down road signs the audience has no idea why they do it or what there names are and what the point is? The film though has it's share of lightness though and the picturing and style of the film is nice to look at. The DVD however is another story it is probably one of the dullest DVD's on the market today no theactrical trailer or anything. This is not the kind of movie I don't think that has deleted scenes laying around in a vault somewhere or I don't think either that for such a small film like this your going to find a half hour show on the making of Funny Farm. It would have been nice but the film is just such a small film I don't think money is put for things like that but on the dvd you get a great movie with a clear picture even though VHS is probably just as good. Buy this it is worth viewing.
Rating: Summary: "Funny As Heck! " Review: Funny farm is, well funny. My favorite part was when they found the dead body in their backyard, well better not give to much away...
Rating: Summary: Funny Farm A Great Laugh Anytime Review: Funny Farm is...well.. funny! I remember when it came out in the theatres it got about 2 or 3 stars. However if you like romantic comedy set in the backwoods this film will have your sides aching from laughter. The premise is rather simple. A big town guy turns to a small town in search of a better life. The only problem is that everything goes wrong. The movers cant find the house. No one will give directions. There are a pair of sign stealers that appear all throughout the movie. Of course our heroine Andy needs to see that sign that they just took (Look! No bullet holes!) There is a scene in a diner and a Sheriff that has you wondering about small town law enforcement. The whole thing ends up at Christmas with beautiful decorations and even more hilarity as our stars come back to Earth. Chevy and Madeline play off one another well in this funny movie. Just when you think things are straightening out for the couple, something else falls apart. Its another movie that is no Oscar winner but its one I watch over and over. I couldnt have a collection of movies without Funny Farm. Dont miss it.
Rating: Summary: The Funniest movie Ever Made!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: Funny Farm Was A Very Funny Movie!!! I Would Highly Recommend It!!! You And Your Family Will Love It!!!Trust me!!! I Know!!!
Rating: Summary: Typical Chevy Chase Comedy Fare. Review: Funny Farm was an average Chevy Chase film. Very funny and goofy, with a no-rules screenplay and a stupid plot which grows onto to you, and makes you get used to it. Funny Farm isn't a National Lampoons kind of movie, this one is acceptable for kids and adults...who both should find something amusing about it. Personally, I think that if you don't rent it, then you're missing the fun, because Tv edits out too many funny parts [like the scene where he drops his wife threw the door]. Overall, Funny Farm is worth the time to watch, and is a winner for hard-core Chevy Chase fans.
Rating: Summary: In a word, Terrible Review: I am a huge fan of Chevy Chase but this is just not good, don't buy it, don't rent it, don't encourage them to make such bad movies
Rating: Summary: DVD 3 -- Funny Farm 10 Review: I am really frustrated this is not in widescreen format taking full advantage of the gorgeous cinematography. All the characters are perfectly cast. You don't have to be a Chevy Chase fan to love him as Andy; it is the best acting he has ever done. Madolyn Smith is simply wonderful as the only character centered in reality while all the quirky and charming characters in this movie, her husband included, live in another world altogether. After Andy repeatedly waxes rhapsodic about settlers 100 years ago to romanticize one screw-up after the other, she finally smacks him in the forehead with her palm claiming it was a mosquito. When she has a children's book published, she plays her husband lovingly like a finely-tuned instrument, stroking his dented ego, telling him the main character (a squirrel named Andy)is a tribute to him and that he was her inspiration, not admitting little Andy gets hit by a truck at the end of the first book, until after he warms to the idea that she, not he, actually wrote a book and lets her have his typewriter and desk. Of course he unravels anyway, leading to the hi-lite -- the entire town turning into a Norman Rockwell scene to help the Farmers sell their home... no, not to help the Farmers, but for the $50 promised to each townsperson who participates ("cue the deer"). What makes this so good is that it's not over the top; it's simply charming. When I want to relax and escape to a warm, funny, and really beautiful place (I want that house, property, and the two ducks!) I replay this movie and never tire of it.
Rating: Summary: "Not Very" Funny Farm Review: I had heard excellent reviews about this movie, and I gave it a shot. To be honest, it was less than funny. I figured I was in trouble after the first "joke" was just plain stupid. There were a few moments where I did laugh, but they were few (Irish Setter, Dog Tail in Fireplace). About halfway through the movie, it was as if the writer forgot that it was intended to be a comedy. I don't recall even smiling, let alone laughing, during the second half of the movie, and the ending is less than comedic. The DVD was nothing special, either: no good extras or features. To sum it up, this is a movie I think you can do without. I would not recommend it.
