Summary: sometimes you just need to laugh
Review: It's very heartening to know that so many people appreciate this movie. Maybe the world is not as cynical as I suspected. This is one really funny movie and one I would recommend.

The scene where Ernest delivers a Christmas tree to Vern's house has to be one of the most hilarious things I have ever seen. You REALLY need to let your guard down just once if you haven't seen this film and just laugh and marvel at the characters Jim Varney can improvise. Pour yourself some potent eggnog, I don't know. We all need this kind of therapy now and then.

Back in the 80's you could make a movie like this. Ernest was always just a kindhearted bumbler; innocent and funny. Think about some of the elements in light of today's culture. A cynical but positively stunning runaway girl just starts staying with Ernest at his house. At one point she is wearing a schoolgirl outfit with pigtails - and walks right into a prison cell past a bunch of men who pay no attention to her at all. Back in 1988 when I first saw this movie that didn't seem particularly weird at all. That was 1988 and this is now.

Just like some of the anachronisms in Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer or A Charlie Brown Christmas, you just have to kick back at Christmas time and drink a toast to better days when you watch Ernest Saves Christmas. I only hope Jim Varney knew how much people loved him.

Summary: ERNIE IS A GEM!
Review: This is by far my favorite Ernest movie, Why is this not available on DVD?

Everything about this movie is right. It has such a warm and genuine tone throughout. It is a wonderful happy story about a hero who almost makes me believe in Santa Claus again!

I have always considered this film an "unsung" family classic..it's every bit as good as other modern Christmas films such as "The Santa Clause". This is so wholesome and honest in its presentation...it just feels real! I sense that Mr. Varney really loved making this film..it is an absolute joy and unrelentingly funny! God Bless you Ernest!!

Summary: Christmas Cool
Review: This is by far the best of the "Ernest" films. Disney did a great job with this one. Catch the cute littles things they put into this one.

Summary: Full of holiday cheer
Review: This is one of Ernests best flicks. Santa is getting old and comes to Orlando, Florida in hopes of hiring a replacement. He runs into quite a few troubles in his quest, but not to fear, because Ernest the cab driver is there to save the day. Along the way, Ernest gets to try out the old lady in the green dress again, as well as a hillbilly snake farmer.

Although the film contains no foul language, sex or violence, it still may not be appropriate for very young children, since there is some discussion in the film about whether Santa is real. Even children who have started to form their own questions concerning Santa may find the Santa Claus-replacement issue that the film is based on a little disturbing. But those caveats aside, children of all ages will enjoy this film.

Summary: NOT REALLY TOO FUNNY OR ENJOYABLE
Review: THIS TIME AROUND, SANTA CLAUS RETIRES AND IT'S UP TO ERNEST TO GET HIM BACK BEFORE CHRISTMAS COMES. NOT REALLY FUNNY AND IT'S JUST NOT THAT ENJOYABLE. THIS WAS THE SECOND MOVIE IN THE ERNEST SERIES. KIDS WILL PROBABLY LIKE THIS ONE, BUT OLDER TEENS [LIKE MYSELF] OR ADULTS WON'T REALLY FIND TOO MUCH OF ANYTHING TO ENJOY IN THIS MOVIE. SKIP THIS ONE. FOLLOWED BY ERNEST GOES TO JAIL.

Summary: Ernest saves Christmas
Review: When I was a kid and I first saw this movie, it was one of my favorites. Now I'm 20 and I watched it again, and I still like it. Ernest (Jim Varney) unwillingly tries to help out a retiring Santa Claus in order to save Christmas.

It takes "Ernest Saves Christmas" a long time to get to the real good parts. Until about the last 20 minutes of the movie, the story goes along at a slow pace following Santa Claus's struggle to get people to believe that he's the real Santa Claus and to try to convince the man that he wants to pass the torch to in order for him to become the next Santa Claus. However, the movie is funny, especially when Ernest finally tries his skills at driving the sleigh with the reindeer.

"Ernest Saves Christmas" isn't the funniest of the Ernest movies, but it is a good one. If you like other Ernest movies or Christmas comedies, I recommend getting "Ernest Saves Christmas."
