Summary: Dum and dummer
Review: That someone who titles their review "A sure Osar nominee" gives this movie five stars says everything about the quality of "Bowfinger."

Summary: ha ha ha ?
Review: "Where are the laughs?" one might ask when watching this movie. You will find about 2 genuine laughs and a chuckle here and there. The story went nowhere although it started with lots of potential to be a riot. If you have seen the commercials and previews for this movie, well, lets just say you have already seen the good parts.

Summary: Instant cure for insomnia.
Review: I had high hopes for this movie when it came out at the theaters, but I couldn't take it. I walked out before the halfway mark. I'd rather stick needles in my eyes than try to watch it again.

Summary: A Comedy for the Those Who Didn't Laugh at The Water Boy
Review: After seeing the diverse comments on this website, I had to put in my two cents worth! This is an entertaining movie and the DVD extras are good. The film actually restored my faith in Eddie Murphy's comic abilities. Until today, it didn't occur to me that anybody else would find the movie boring. So many people seem happy with The Nutty Professor's farting and the Water Boy's slackface antics that I just figured THIS film would really be a joy for viewers. It is not an adolescent comedy like Big Daddy or Something About Mary. Bowfinger incorporates physical comedy but it is mostly a series of jokes and insights into La La Land (Hollywood), including the famous cult that caters to movie stars. I saw this film first on an airplane, so my expectations were low, but I ended up laughing out loud enough times with the rest of the plane audience to make my travelling companion wish he'd rented headphones too. When I got home, I rented the video for my family and friends to watch, and I laughed again with them. I don't know why some people don't find it amusing, but if it helps you get an idea of whether this is your kind of movie, I'll confess that other films whose humor captured me include What's Up Doc, Adventures in Babysitting, Foul Play, The Player and Rushmore.

Summary: Funny because it's true
Review: Bowfinger depicts a grotesque picture of hollywood. The big star with a little brain that is influenced by a cult (travolta?). A mediocre actress who sleeps her way to the middle and goes over the top as a lesbian (heche?). A director/casting agent who uses the groin more than the brain (just about all of them?). It isn't pretty, but it is funny. Steve Martin continous in his new vein as a comedian with a message while Eddie Murphy makes his first respectable comedy/movie since Beverly Hills Cop I.

Summary: Busted gut laughing
Review: Must not be on the same planet as some earlier reviewers (and I'm glad). I give this movie 5 stars, not because it's deep or because the plot niceties are particularly believable or unpredictable, but because it's FUNNY. There are a few slow moments, but a lot more funny ones than other recent "comedies." Saw it by coincidence a day after viewing "The Muse," another take on Hollywood film-making. This sparkles by comparison to that flat, pedestrian yawner.

Eddie Murphy proves how gifted he can be when given the right chance, convincingly acting two completely different roles who look identical, as well as showing that he can be funny and sympathetic. (It's a credit to Murphy's acting skill that Jiff's identity _is_ surprising.)

Steve Martin's writing here is sharp enough to bypass a lot of people -- there is some broad physical comedy, but if you think that's all you're watching, you're missing the point completely.

The drycleaning gag in the outtakes should have been in the movie!

Summary: Magic from Oz
Review: I have to admit, I really don't understand the negative reviews for this film, which everyone in our family found extremely funny and clever. Eddie Murphy, as usual, plays more than one role, and in this film his performance is even more exceptional than usual as he portrays two completely different character types without the help of prosthetics. Commentaries by the other actors in the film and by Frank Oz all referred to Murphy's uncanny ability to slip in and out of character at the blink of an eye, and to his wonderful extrapolation of a character scripted to be simple and naive. Much of the humor in the film is subtle, based more on the reactions of the characters to situations or comments than on any actual dialogue or action. But the dialogue, written by Steve Martin, and enhanced by adlibs by Murphy, is very, very clever and witty. Perhaps all those negative reviewers just didn't get it.In general, I found the film sweet and funny, have watched it three times already, once with a running commentary by Oz, and have never once found it boring or unintelligent; quite the contrary.

Summary: a waste of time
Review: A total waste, bore, horrible, you name it. Nothing funny or clever. Anyone that likes it should get a life and doesn't know humor. I seriously doubt your maturity level.

Summary: OUTTA HERE
Review: YOU KNOW, USUALLY YOU WOULD EXPECT A STEVE MARTIN MOVIE TO BE PRETTY ENTERTAINING. ALSO ONCE YOU HEAR THE NAME EDDIE MURPHY YOU ALMOST KNOW THAT THE MOVIE IS GOING TO BE GREAT. WELL, THIS IS THE EXACT OPPOSSITE OF ALL SAID. IT WAS ABOUT AS FUN TO WATCH AS, WELL, NOTHING! THE ONLY UP PART WAS WHEN EDDIE MURPHY SAID A FEW LINES THAT MADE YOU LAUGH. THE REST WAS A TREMENDOUS BORE.

HERE'S AN ADVERTIXEMENT FOR YOU: HAVING TROUBLE TRYING TO SLEEP? WELL, BOWFINGER IS YOUR MOVIE, ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS BUY THE TICKET, BRING A PILLOW, AND YOU'LL FALL ASLEEP AND STAY THAT WAY TROUGHOUT THE MOVIE!
