Rating: Summary: this is one of the funniest movies ever! Review: I cannot believe how funny this movie is. It is so nasty and hilarious. I love Judy Davis in this movie, especially her beginning scene when she goes nuts, and Kirstie Alley takes the cake in her big confrontation, especially when she breaks Woody Allen's glass. God, I rewound that like 8 times it was so funny! And Hazelle Goodman as the hooker is great. Her scenes at the end when they get to the university are priceless. I love the way she delivers the line, "He's dead, honey - you got one of them rubber bags?" This movie is so outrageously funny and it's good that Woody Allen is being so revealing and showing a dark side. This is my favorite Woody Allen movie so far. I haven't seen the earlier stuff, and I probably should, but this movie makes me laugh as hard as Animal House and There's Something about Mary. That's pretty funny.
Rating: Summary: Judy Davis and Kirstie Alley Turn In Wonderful Performances Review: Even though the movie was a little bit of a bore, l found that Judy Davis and Kirstie Alley turned in two of that year's best supporting performances. Yet, neither of them weren't even nominated for an Oscar that year. One of my favourite scenes in the film is between Kirstie Alley and Woody Allen when she confronts him about his cheating in the past. Kirstie Alley's rage on the brink of insanity is hilarious the watch. I was almost crying from laughter when l first watched it on video. Judy Davis is practically in every one of Woody Allen's movies and she yet again proves her comedic talents. Her flip out scene in the beginning of the film is fun to watch. I am not really a fan of Woody Allen's work. I just like it when l see great performances from people who get the right part to truly shine on the big screen. Sometimes when people tear through the scenery in a movie it is really fun to watch. I suggest this movie just for the performances from Judy Davis and Kirstie Alley.
Rating: Summary: another great film from a master of American cinema Review: Dark, inventive, meaningful, and extremely funny
Rating: Summary: ONE OF ALLEN'S FUNNIEST FILMS! Review: I truely enjoyed watching this film in the theater! I couldn't stop laughing! One gag after the next. The movie is a bit more vulgar than most of Allen's films. This is based on Ingmar Bergman's classic film "Wild Strawberries". Allen does a wondrous job retelling the story in pure Allen fashion. I have to say this is probably my second favorite Allen film(Next to "Take the Money and Run). Rent it,buy it,whatever but SEE IT!
Rating: Summary: Where is the Woody Allen we once knew? Review: I grew up a Woody Allen fan. I never thought I would see once of his works that could possibly turn me away... Well, that was until I saw this film. With a background in literature I do know what Woody was trying to say in the film (So please don't write a review trying to explain it to me), but couldn't he have done it without such perverse and disturbing plot twists? The sad thing is when you finish seeing this film you begin to think of his other films... For example, how many films deal with prostitutes (pretty much all of them) and how many contain people with little sexual self-control (pretty much all of them). That's a problem. I wish there was a way I could go back and not see this film and remember Woody as the man who created The Purple Rose of Cairo, Love And Death, Radio Days, Manhattan Murder Mystery, and Hannah and Her Sisters.
Rating: Summary: love him or hate him... Review: At the outset, i'll admit i adore Woody Allen's written and cinematic work. After seeing about 80% of his known film's, Deconstructing Harry is one of the most outstanding. i get a sense of melancholic (in that gin & tonic way that only Allen can do Melancholy)closure from this film. Judy Davis is, as always, engrossing. As for the DVD quality, Woody's films were never done justice on VHS. If you don't ever see this in a theatre, see it on DVD.
Rating: Summary: A Pretty Cool Flick Review: In spite of what people say, I think Woody Allen seems like a cool guy. His movies are very self-conscious and pretenscious. But that's his act. Like an unsafe version of George Castanza, but of course he is the original neurotique guy. Tracey Singer (who helped on the soundtrack) helped me form most of my opinions about this film when I met him at a songwriters convention at the Cultural Center in Tijuana.
Rating: Summary: Could Woody Allen be the American Fellini? Review: Right--Woody Allen as Fellini. That's rich. But the man obviously knows his Fellini; remember the insufferable bore who stood behind Woody and Diane Keaton in "Annie Hall"? The most irritating thing about the guy is that he was probably right--Fellini was indeed a very indulgent filmmaker. He's just too loud about it. But who wrote the dialogue that he spoke? Woody Allen. He's made a viscious, vulgar, and funny movie in "Deconstructing Harry". But oh Lord is he indulgent. Few people have so lavishly exposed their emotional and personal ticks to the world, with such faith that everyone will care. He's still extremely talented. But someday, someone will make a movie in which the hero stands on line in front of some jerk who says, "I just thought Allen's last film was so indulgent. It's true, he's really one of the most indulgent filmmakers..."
Rating: Summary: a BIG laugh. Review: This was one of the first Woody Allen films that I saw, and it made me an Allen fan. His dialogue is hilarious, the odd situations his characters get in and his many strange characters make this to be a wonderful comedy. My one complaint would be almost endless barage of four letter words. In some scenes its very well placed and is very funny. But still, other times it is very out of place an unnecessary. But, its still great and I'd still go rent it, especially if you're a fan of Mr. Allen.
Rating: Summary: Clever Review: This movie was well-thought out and appealing. Although Woody's self-absorption became frustrating, that's what made the story. I think it's funny, charming, intellectually delightful, and worth watching.
