Summary: Life's Hard Lesson
Review: Looking at the other reviews here, I also feel compelled to respond. Clockwatchers was simply a movie about our lives. Our lives are not as gung ho as action and other movies make it appear to be. The lesson in this movie is not to let our lives pass us by. We can't tip toe through life and this movie portrays that. I love this movie. The actresses (especially Toni Collette) give me an exact feeling of everything. I'll cherish this movie throughout my life.

Summary: Wonderful.
Review: Reading the other reviews here, I felt compelled to submit my own. Clockwatchers is one of my favorite movies of 1998, perfectly capturing the aimlessness and degradation of being a temporary worker. I can't figure out the current trend of completely inaccurate movie synopses on video boxes (Muriel's Wedding, another Toni Collette favorite, is definitely not the madcap adventure the box would have you believe)... True, there are some truly great comic elements here, but THIS MOVIE IS NOT A COMEDY. i guess some of the other people expected a laff riot--this is definitely not it. Toni Collete's understated performance as sweet-but-shy iris is perfect. Parker Posey is hilarious as usual, playing the bitchy temp veteran. This movie is subtle, complex, well-developed, there is tons of foreshadowing and symbolism, the muzak-y score is perfect... again, this is definitely not a comedy, but it is one of the best and most thoughtful movies I've seen in some time.

Summary: This movie should come with a disclaimer:
Review: "Warning- may require therapy after viewing"!

It was Saturday. I wanted to see a comedy. My friend's girlfriend said "Hey, how-bout Clockwatchers". When I read the box cover at the video store and saw that Parker Posey was staring in it I was sure that it would be great. I even found myself excited.

I was wrong. Way - wrong. So wrong, I considered bludgeoning myself in the head with the remote control. This movie begins by depicting the lives of four 'Temps' who meet in Corporate-NOWHERE-America. Ten minutes later it's in a full-blown TAILSPIN. Luckily, my friend fell asleep before it could do any permanent damage. As for my friend's girlfriend- it's obvious she wasn't so lucky. You have GOT to be WACKED to watch this movie more than once! And me- this is part of my twelve-step recovery.

At least the title is fitting considering that is exactly what I did while watching this movie. I watched the clock, praying it would end. Consider yourself warned- CHECK YOURSELF BEFORE YOU WRECK YOURSELF!

Summary: Gives a New Meaning to Punching the Clock
Review: "Clockwatchers", the highly anticipated debut by the the Sprecher sisters, does not turn out to be the laugh riot or scathing satire you might expect (see other reviews here). It's definitely not about big explosions, blowhard actors and drama teen-queens. Instead, it's the story of a bright, but underconfident girl (Toni Collette) who is lost at sea temping at a hideously accurate credit corporation in some large city. Lost, that is, until she is accepted into the ranks of the "underclass"---the other temps in her office (Kudrow, Ubach and Posey). Unlike her gung-ho architypal sales-guy father, they make her feel accepted and worthy for the first time in her life.

What ultimately drives "Clockwatchwers" is simply the fact that having friends can make an intolerable situation laughable, fun and yes---almost enjoyable. That's simply all there is----unfortunately it just wasn't "deep" enough for some critics.

Posey, as usual, walks off with the awards here, providing mostly dry laughs and giving a wonderfully brash performance as take-no-crap Maragaret. And Collette is like a quiet storm at the center of it all, her wide eyes speaking tomes. Definitely not for all tastes, this film still merits attention from people who enjoy films that explore friendship and it's dynamics-----and there aren't many out there that do.

Summary: Once again Parker Posey delivers an amazing performance.
Review: Once again Paker Posey delivers an amazing performance. This movie is wonderfully done and takes an interesting and often hilarious look at the world of an office temp.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: IF nothing else, should inspire you to never "clockwatch"
Review: Clockwatchers dead on portrayal of mundane, passionless office life is perfect.I would have to assume that the Sprecher girls speak from experience. Each character has a vague idea of what she wants, but is presently stuck being an temp (the lowest form of life in the corporate food chain). Mutual job disatisfaction instantly bonds them. All is well until a wormy permanent employee shakes things up.The movie's rhythm is slow, but give it a chance. It's a great dark comedy.Anyone stuck in office hell can appreciate the silly office politics, endless gossip, and bizarre characters. One of the funnier employees is the "office supply guy"-who's only joy is hoarding post-its and white out.Everyone wants to feel irreplaceable even if they're doing the most menial task.By the end, you'll want to quit your office job and write your own movie.

Summary: One of the best films about modern life, period.
Review: Funny, angry, full of despair -- this is a black, black comedy about the spirit crushing existence that is being a temporary employee. It's a remarkably moving film with actually *strong women characters* which is something you don't see often in movies these days...

Summary: Like really being at work
Review: This movie blew! And, it blew because it was so accurate. I felt like I was at work, for nearly two hellish hours. This movie had a chance to be funny, but turned out to be a depressing slice-of-life film about office temps. I have been a temp, and I went through many of the things these girls did. I don't want to watch a movie about it!!! There were funny scenes, but mostly it was like a day at the office compressed into 90+ minutes of film. I felt like I wasted my money renting this video, and the rental was free.

Summary: IT SUCKED
Review: We watched the first 20 minutes and immediately shut it off. It basically sucked. BORING. one word or less, BORING. I would rather watch linoleum peel. that would be more exciting. BORING. i almost got brain dammage watching it. After threating to kill myself, my friend, Amber, finally put me out of my misery. No, she didn't kill me, just shut it off. You should do the same, and ram it up your butt.

Summary: Parker Posey rules!
Review: This is the best film I have seen that captures what is happening to 20-somethings out there today. You must see it again and again to appreciate it.
