Rating: Summary: Under-rated and under-recognized Review: Despite the little attention this movie has gotten, and the varied, sporadic comments and reviews, "Bodies, Rest and Motion" is the most wonderful thing I have seen in years. The four actors (Fonda, Stoltz, Cates, and Roth) could not do better to bring to us a very subtle, touching, and elegant portrayal of loves come and gone and lives living on threads. There's no action here, and very little actually happens, but the dialogue and the attention to details are so strong, you find you don't need anything more; you can simply revel in each actor's beauty and condition. You have to watch this movie more than once, and you have to cry at times, it's that good. I'm scratching my head why this movie did not make greater acclaim. Either I'm going mental, or the world is just missing out.

Rating: Summary: a very intriguing movie about every day "losers" Review: I found the movie quite entertaining and funny.these everyday"losers" who are bored and lonely and trying to bring meaning to their lives are all quite likable. i have watched this movie several times and i like it even more with each viewing. the soundtrack is very unique and interesting.I also love the cinematography, particually the use of such vivid colors in such a drab desert setting.
Rating: Summary: Dull and boring Review: I know this is a character study but when you don't care at all about any of the characters, it's still hard to like it. I sat through the whole thing and at the end, didn't feel I knew the characters any better than I did at the beginning and I could have cared less what happened to them.
Rating: Summary: Bodies, Rest & Motion Review: I remember seeing this film at the theatre when it came out and have rented it a few times since. The storyline revolves around the four central character played by;(Phoebe Cates, Bridget Fonda, Tim Roth, Eric Stoltz) and set in the fictitious town of Enfield, Arizona.Although the plot is relatively simple, the dialogue and scenes move along smartly, and I am a fan of the four actors. The chemistry between Bridget Fonda and Eric Stoltz is seamless, perhaps because they used to be married to each other in real life. Tim Roth is great as the disgruntled TV salesman, and Phoebe Cates does a superb job playing the sane one of the group...
Rating: Summary: Great character study Review: In my opinion this is one of the great '90's independent films. Ostensibly one of the 'Generation X' movies so popular at the time, "Bodies, Rest And Motion" didn't receive half the attention of the comic ones ("Slackers", "Reality Bites", "Clerks", "Singles") but this is far better. Without much of a plot to speak of, this film concentrates on four characters and the emotional turmoil surrounding their bland existence. While somewhat claustrophobic in scope, this is massive in essence, with each actor bringing their bewildered characters to life expertly. Plus, the photography is truly exquisite and the soundtrack is awesome. I can recommend this movie to anyone interested in cinema as art. Also check out "Ruby In Paradise" and "Gas Food Lodging" for similar top-drawer signposts of '90's indie moviemaking.
Rating: Summary: Dull storyline, but the acting is good Review: The problem with this movie is that not much happens in it. You don't care about the characters as they are written and you don't know if anything ever is going to happen in it. THe only thing that makes the movie bearable is Tim Roth, Bridget Fonda, Phoebe Cates and Eric Stoltz. I saw a similar movie (Don't Do It) recently and I wanted to throttle everyone. In this one there's at least enough acting that you feel for these people marginally. Mostly the movie rests on Tim Roth. He's the disgruntled television salesman that steals a tv and then runs away. Everyone else in the movie is a dull Generation X cliche. The left girlfriend who doesn't know if she can love again. The pot-smoking stable painter. The best friend. We've seen these types in other movies and it'd be nice if we didn't have to see all these types again. At least Tim Roth's character is itneresting. He's fairly horrible and Tim Roth is pulling in one of his scary performances but he's utterly fascinating. ...
Rating: Summary: A little too real, perhaps. Review: This highly memorable film is a far more accurate film about the slacker generation than "Singles." The cast is excellent.
Rating: Summary: like indie films? Give this a try! Review: This is a great film, but alas, not everyone will like it. First off, there's no "plot", not in the conventional sense anyway. This is a film about people and the strange things people do. The aim of this film is not to tie up loose ends or give you a 'warm happy feeling'. This is what I call a 'reality' film. Its like a 48 hour window into someone else's life. Because of that, the pacing is slow and there is no slapstick comedy. This is the type of film that doesn't fit into a actual genre. Its not a romantic comedy or a romantic drama. Its just a film. If you like watching film just for the sake of watching film, try this one. If you watch films purely for entertainment value, you may not have the patience for this one.
