Rating: Summary: strange but funny Review: Mixed Nuts is one of the oddest movies I have ever seen. Although it does have its funny parts most of it is just a stupid plot. Basically, it is an okay movie, but I wouldn't reccomend it.
Rating: Summary: A flawed yet worthwhile Xmas Classic. Review: Mixed Nuts is one of those movies that actually suffers from an all-star lineup. With a cast of unknowns or up-and-comers, it would shine as a fun little indie film. But with the comedic talents of Martin, Shandling, Kahn, Sanders, and others, you can't help but wonder why the movie isn't funnier. All complaints aside, it is a good film, as there are countless laughs throughout. But these moments are mostly due to the excellent performances by all (with Liev Schreiber stealing the show in what could have been a very cliche role), rather than the script itself, which seems to be uncomfortable with being a dark comedy, and continuously attempts to redeem itself with sappy couplings and a typical Kapra-esque happy ending. It may not make your list of Holiday Must-See films, but if you aren't expecting a miracle, you should come away happy.
Rating: Summary: Despite all the right ingredients...tastes terrible! Review: Quite simply one of the least funny comedies I have seen. The cast alone should ensure that it at least raises a giggle if not a belly laugh, however it just isn't there.
The only movie I have ever turned off three quarters of the way through. I think that pretty much sums it up.
Rating: Summary: Watch and enjoy with your romantic partner! Review: Some say this movie could have been better. I say "humbug"! This movie will fill you with the Christmas spirit no matter when you watch it and when you do you might want to watch it with a romantic partner because when the movie is over love and romance will take over the both of you!!! So before the movie starts break out the Egg-nog, a cozy comforter, cushy pillows and ENJOY! HOHOHOHO and Merry Christmas everyone!
Rating: Summary: A typical Martin & Sandler movie with a Christmas flavor. Review: The all star cast is loose and as goofy as usual in this Martinesque Christmas comedy that's a far cry from "It's a Wonderful Life." Adam Sandler starting out is just the same as ever. Martin never changes. Incredibly fantastic seasonal soundtrack that is, unfortunately, out of print as a CD. Martin should promote the soundtrack as a seasonal special and market the heck out of it. The CDs dynomite and he'd make a million. Don't leave the couch or you'll miss out on the details that make for a hoot of an ending. A must to add to your traditional Christmas favorites. Needs an educated, savvy adult mind to track the flow of Martin's always bazaar black humor.
Rating: Summary: What a classic! Review: The elavator scene, the love songsby adam Sandler, the vet. I was laughing out loud almost the whole movie it is an underated masterpeice.
Rating: Summary: Dumb movie Review: The movie had no plot and was just plain dumb and stupid.
Rating: Summary: The movie is great, but the soundtrack is even better! Review: The movie is a very funny, rather dark look at Christmas Spirit California style. The soundtrack/CD has been entertaining my family for years. I get many requests a year for the CD. Is there any way to get other CD's?
Rating: Summary: smart people love this movie! Review: There is no middle ground for this movie -- viewers either love it or hate it, and I LOVE it. (In fact, it's a Christmas tradition for me and my friends.) The characters are neurotic, absurd, silly, combustible, and the brisk comic timing is reminiscent of a theater piece. It's a classic farce dissolving into a sentimentality that seems appropriate for the holiday season (no worse than "It's a Wonderful Life", for those who are jaded of such emotional manipulation). Light-hearted and fluffy, Mixed Nuts is not intellectual...but it's eminently entertaining. Its exoteric appeal allows intellectual people to have just as much fun as their non-intellectual friends and family as they watch it together. Perfect.
Rating: Summary: It just...lays there. Review: This film had potential. Steve Martin was hilarious in THE JERK and was excellent in a more conventional comedic role in L.A. STORY.But MIXED NUTS just lays there. Script is banal, unfunny, and unoriginal. I've repeatedly seen the same "jokes" and setups in a UCLA Extension comedy writing class I've taken a few times. Parker Posey is wasted. She's got two lines in the beginning of the film, and two at the end. Two minutes screen time total. The setup of a suicide clinic on Chistmas Eve is ignored. Instead we get listless subplots concerning "wacky" characters. Steve Martin's mousy co-worker secretly loves him. Julliette Lewis provides the co-worker with a red dress, so then Steve notices her. There's also a fruitcake that nobody wants. People keep passing it on throughout the film. Ha, ha. Gotta love a film with a running fruitcake joke.
