Summary: WOW
Review: I rented Free Enterprise on a whim, expecting little or nothing, hoping at least to garner a laugh or two from the notion of William Shatner playing himself. But I was shocked to find a film that not only accurately captures and parodies a real-world sense of just how pervasive the science fiction lifestyle can be, but also manages to do so in an intelligent, witty, and completely captivating manner. The dialogue is well-written and delivered, the directing is professional, and there isn't a weak actor in the entire production.

I enjoyed the film so much, I had to buy it.

Don't turn this one down.

Summary: Self-Indulgent Mess
Review: When I first witnessed "Free Enterprise" on the big screen, I thought I had seen the most self-indulgent film ever released. I was strangely fascinated by it and the excesses of the "auteurs" who created it. This fascination drove me to buy the DVD version which promised numerous "extras" such as audio commentary and "pop-up" text to explain the allegedly obscure references. The DVD version of "Free Enterprise" expands the obnoxiousness of the theatrical version exponentially. The voice-over commentary makes it sound like the people who made this film created "Citizen Kane." The film itself is a poorly executed wholesale rip-off of "Swingers." If you would like to see a truly funny movie, buy "Swingers." If you would like to see a prime example of ego run amok, buy "Free Enterprise."

Summary: Must See
Review: I've watched this movie 5 times. I still laugh so hard my head hurts. If you've ever been in a comic book shop, owned an action figure, or even considered attending a con, you will be doubled over with laughter. This movie targets Sci-Fi fans with sniper-like precision.

Ultimately, this is a love story. And even if you don't pick up on most of the myriad "in jokes", the movie works. The whole cast is great. Audie England is simply stunning...and Bill Shatner does a marvelous job of lampooning himself.

Do yourself a favor and watch this movie.

Review: This is one of the best movies I've seen in recent years. Suffice to say it kicks a--! Buy it or rent it now (yes, find an all night video store if its late)...

Summary: Embrace your inner geek!
Review: This is a hilarious movie, especially for any SF fan. I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. I figured I'd enjoy all the in-jokes and whatnot, and they are plentiful and funny. But what surprised me a bit is that "Free Enterprise" is simply a good movie *as* a movie. The script is good, with characters you actually care about, and it's a polished, professional production.

The DVD package has everything you could possibly want in a DVD. The "Ebionics" guide to the dialogue and the "footnote" subtitles alone justify the DVD, but there's plenty more - deleted scenes, commentary, etc.

And Shatner's music video is actualy pretty good!

Summary: Very funny- moreso for genre fans.
Review: I bought this film partly because of Shatner, pertly because Mark Altman (Producer) writes for Cinescape and had piqued my interest in the film, and partly because I was able to purchase the DVD for $7.50 with a coupon.

I must say, I was pleasently surprised! First of all, this is a top-notch DVD, especially for such a film- no one took any notice of it at the box office. There are some very funny deleted scenes, a very interesting and informative audio commentary, and even making-of goodies like a documentary and screen tests. My favorite extra was a sort of glossary that explained some of the more obscure sci-fi in jokes it the movie.

Which brings me to why I probably enjoyed the film as much as I did- I am a pretty big sci-fi/movie fan. I was rolling on the ground at some of the quotes and references (my favorite: the group is on a roadtrip to Toys R Us. As they near the parking lot, someone says, "Almost there!", and another retorts with, "Stay on target!". If you don't get the reference, it is from the first Star Wars movie- my brother and I caught it immediatly- the inflection was just right. A good example of the movie's humor.) But the movie is not just for genre fans. My mom liked it a lot too- it has a story in there somewhere, albeit a thin one.

Overall- entertaining movie, wonderful DVD.

Summary: I really liked this film.
Review: Not being sure what to expect, I got this film because I can so relate to the two heroes of the movie. I too took some of the same grief from my junior high peers for being a "Trekkie." It's delightful to see a treatment of what has happened to folks like me in adulthood. The story was touching and funny, with the many inside references to the Original Star Trek Series evoking gales of laughter from both me and my wife. William Shater was wonderful, showing that he has the ability to not take himself very seriously without looking fake.

Overall, I really enjoyed the film, although it did get a little slow in the middle. I would recommend it to anyone who shares my lifelong affection with Star Trek.

Summary: Smart, funny, irrevrent and just plain zany...
Review: A beautifully photographed, crisply-written well-acted and nicely excuted madcap tale of friendship, involving not just Star Trek and William Shatner, but everything from sex to Shakespeare. You never know what's gonna' come up next. But the DVD is amazing! For a movie which didn't cost very much, the DVD special edition, with all it's extras, gives more insight into the filmmaking process then any release since the box set of Terminator 2. A must-own for any fan of filmmaking...!

Summary: Gem for those who like to laugh
Review: There are just as many Stars Wars references as Star Trek and those who like Science Fiction seeing it for the second and third times will be equaled or outnumbered by movie goers who typically like characters in KevinSmith's ,Graham Taylor's, Richard Linklater's, or Woody Allen movies. Don't get up to go to the Loo, you might have to rewind.

Summary: I really liked this movie
Review: If you enjoy film then you will truly enjoy this one: a very witty comedy in the vein of "Swingers" meets "Diner" meets "My favorite Year". Shatner is absolutely hilarious!(and I hated Star Trek) and Weigel and MacCormack have chemistry much like Favreau and Vaugn in "Swingers". Independent all the way but with commercial appeal.
