Summary: Great flick.
Review: First off I am not much of a KISS fan. But the film does play countless other classic rock tunes from the era. Don't get me wrong, KISS is legendary and I will take them over disco any day. The film was hilarious and at times literally painful to watch (lots of people getting the crud beat of them and physically hurt). The film has a tendency to be serious one moment and then over the edge the next. This is what makes it so fun to watch. It really lives up to the old cliche of "sex, drugs and rock and roll." Shannon Tweed and Ron Jeremy make quality cameos. The ending of the movie is satisfying and somewhat predictable. I highly recommend it. Also check out Tom Green's, "Road Trip."

Summary: Some people seem to be missing the point
Review: I'm a little surprised at how many people seem to be missing some fundamental points about this movie.

First: It's a movie set in the early 1970s. It's NOT set in the world of today. If you weren't around back then, you're just going to have to trust what you see. I grew up then as did a number of people who have seen the movie with me. That's exactly how we remember it being. The world was a very different place back then

Second: There was not the "all good" feeling towards music back then that there is today. You listened to a particular style of music, and that was that. You didn't listen to anything else (not publicly, at least), and you got in fights defending your favorite band. That was life. Interestingly KISS was one of the first bands of the 70s to crossover to another genre (hence the comments in the car about KISS never making a disco album, that was a joke). Religious groups were lobbying hard to get KISS banned. The stuff with Marilyn Manson today is a joke by comparison. Bands like MM are directly descended from KISS, and the acceptance that they get (along with the self-promotional negative publicity) was won by hard-fought battles from the likes of KISS. Again, it was a different world back then.

Third: This movie is NOT, repeat NOT, a realistic portrayal of events as they happened on that night. It is a glorified *remembrence* of events as told to other people... It's sitting around behind the gym smoking cigarettes embellishing stories to the kids who couldn't make it to the show...

Summary: A rockin' good time
Review: ... After all the KISS merchandise that has been put out over the years, a feature film was inevitable, but surprisingly the film works out well. Edward Furlong, James DeBello, Giuseppe Andrews, and Sam Huntington play four raving KISS fans with dreams that they're garage band will someday open for they're idols. In the meantime though, they're getting ready to go see KISS, but Jam's (Huntington) bible thumping mother won't have it, and burns the tickets. What ensues are the kids going on a trip to Detroit to get to the conert, and go through tons of whacked out hijinks and many a joint in the process. It's hard to classify Detroit Rock City as a coming of age movie ..., but the movie works and is very funny without going over the line of absurdity...DVD features are worth noting as well; you get three seperate commentaries, music videos, and some multiple angle features as well. All in all, if you want a fairly good laugh out loud comedy, check out Detroit Rock City.

Summary: Uschi's 'Detroit' Review
Review: 'Detroit Rock City' is a nice film.Yes, some of the gags and comical mishaps are rather unbelievable when you think of it, but you're not supposed to think about it, just watch it. I give the film itself 3 stars. It is fast and fun.I give 2 other stars for the very sweet performances of Sam Hungtingtons' "JAM" and Giuseppe Andrews' "LEXX". And for the record, I'm not a KISS fan or a Furlong fan, and I had no previous knowledge of any of the other cast members, so I'm coming from a neutral standpoint in my review. However, I have never heard the F-word so many times...but I guess boys will be boys...

Summary: Bad Music, KISS Smells
Review: "God gave rock 'n roll to you." Sure. I don't like to see old guys still trying to be cool. Even the one with the long tongue. That's foul. Those four high school dudes had some funny moments, especially when one tried to rob a kid. But in the long run, they should've sold their KISS tickets. Nobody likes them anymore. Good granny for burning the tickets. Since "Detroit Rock City" takes place in duh, Detroit, there should have been better music like Vanilla Ice. Well, any music would've surpassed KISS. Noise to the ears, ugly to the eyes.

Summary: Quality
Review: I thought this was a fun, quality movie. Good actors, good writing. I'm not particularly a KISS fan (though I do like Rock and Roll) so that is not a requirement. 70's nostalgia for the slightly older generation, a retro lesson for the younger. Disco lovers beware. Be prepared for a comic book style, caricatures and irreverence but I think that is evident from the poster and the previews. Worth seeing and can somebody please book them for dialogue on the next star wars?

Summary: Great Film, Great DVD
Review: On it's own, DETROIT ROCK CITY is an excellent film, and this DVD edition is equally incredible .... The film features three of the today's most interesting and unique young actors: Edward Furlong, Natasha Lyonne and Giuseppe Andrews ... Each bring an individuality and passion to every role I've see them in, and DRC is no exception .... And that's NOT to say the other actors don't shine: THEY DO... Each character plays their part to perfection, from the sleazy ticket scalper to the loonie Father McNulty to the "Stellas and Guidos", this film has not one frame where there isn't someone cast to perfection bringing some odd character to life ... And the 1970's feel is done to perfection: from the vocabulary to the clothes to the music, everything is dead-on ... The extras to this DVD are PLENTY: Multiple commentary tracks, behind the scenes with screen tests, multiple interviews with the cast and crew, an additional "making of" documentary, clips of Edward Furlong recording his vocals to the KISS classic "Rock and Roll All Nite", and my favorites, videos from The Donnas ( Strutter ) and Everclear ( Boys Are Back In Town ) ... And there's even more ... I am a very jaded film viewer, especially when it comes to new films ... But DETROIT ROCK CITY has earned a place in my collection, and has become a favorite of mine .... For this genre, it's a total classic ...

Review: Kiss is my favorite band and i was excited when this film came out.The first time i saw this film i laughed my [behind] of it was hilarious.Alot of people say its for kiss fans only but its not its like a road trip of four trying to do whatever it takes to see kiss with them meeting some new characters on the way,in fact you dont even see the band kiss until the end of the movie. This movie is hilarious and will definitely make you laugh.
