Summary: Man, HOURS from now we're actually gonna be seein KISS!!!!!!
Review: This has to be my all time favorite movie, along with "Office Space". It's seriously one movie I could watch 3 times in a row and want to watch 3 times more :) I am quite surprised at how under rated it is... probably just because Vin Diesel isn't in it, you know how the critics hate anything that doesn't have him in it... Anyway, here's the plot:

It's 1978, and there are 2 big things in the music world: KISS, and disco(ugh). If you're in high school, you're either a KISS freak or a "stella", ie: a disco lover.. But a certain 4 guys who are together as the band "Mystery", are certainly no "stellas"! They just want to do one thing and one thing only: See their favorite band live, and to no surprise, that band, is KISS! However, seeing them is not an easy task...

Drummer Jerimiah's mother is a very overprotective Christian who states that "KISS is the devil's music!" and will NOT let her son listen to them, have any pictures of them in his room, and NO WAY IN HELL see them live! Of course, Jerimah tries his best to be a KISS fan without his mom knowing(ie: poster on the window blind that his mom doesn't see...), but unfortuantley, she discovers the KISS tickets in his jacket while he is at school.. and that pretty much destroys the boys's chances of going to see them.... That is, until they think of a nice little plan to get him out of the boarding school his mom has taken him to...

But of course it doesn't stop there- from running into a bunch of "stellas" who didn't take kindly to them throwing pizza on their car, to trying to avoid the M.A.T.M.O.K.(Mothers Against the Music of KISS),, these boys will do ANYTHING their little hearts desire to see their favorite rock group.....

If you grew up in the 70s, this movie will be a fun flashback... I didn't, I'm only 20, but it's movies like these that make me wish i DID grow up in the 70s... I mean the 90s had their fun moments don't get me wrong, but this was back in the day of great rock groups like KISS, Thin Lizzy, Blue Oyster Cult, etc.. unlike today where I'm stuck with Linkin Park, Korn, Limp Bizkit, and other crap of the like...

Also, dare I say it, this movie is slightly educational towards the history of rock music/pop culture- it deals with a lot of things that were big in the 70s, especially including overprotective parents who claim that 'heavy metal is the music of Satan!'- You know it's pretty funny,, back in those days they thought KISS and AC/DC were the worst that music could get,, NOW look what we have- Marlyin Manson & etc..

Well anyway back to the movie... The 4 kids all do great jobs acting, and are all very funny (oh and just to let you know- the guy who plays "Trip", the long-haired, loudmouthed stoner, is not Jason Mewes, who plays Jay from Jay & Silent Bob- yes I thought this too at first, but he's not...) Also this movie has a great soundtrack- classic songs from Thin Lizzy and Van Halen, and a great cover of KISS's "Cat Scratch Fever" by Pantera.

I was fortunate enough to be able to see KISS live in the summer of 2003, and I remember how it felt the day before I saw them, when I watched this and thought "That's gonna be ME tomorrow NIGHT!!!!!" ahhh, fun times :)

A must-own for any rock music lover- it'll look great next to Wayne's World and This IS Spinal Tap...

"YOU WANTED THE BEST, YOU GOT THE BEST, THE HOTTEST MOVIE IN THE WORLD, DETROIT ROCK CITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

GET UP, everybody's gonna move their feet, GET DOWN, everybody's gonna leave their seat.....

Summary: I want to rock and roll all night and party every day...yeah
Review: KISS rocks, thats what the 4 band loving boys go to the concert with some disapprovales from some KISS hating parents. along the way they trash a disco loving fan group, they pick up a prostitute. when they arrive at the concert one of their mothers is there, they get beaten up and their tickets stolen but eventually they cleaverly get them back and they see KISS rock the hizouse. of course the main title based on KISS' song "Detroit Rock City" we get Gene Simmons sprouting his tounge out from the tounges point of view. Shannon Tweed, Simmons wife appears also. its a rockin and a rollin, fun, fun, fun.

Summary: Detroit Rock City
Review: I had never heard of "Detroit Rock City" (1999) when it went out in theaters. I'm guessing it did bad since every good movie is usually panned by reviewers. I saw it bits and pieces of it on T.V. I laughed at some of the parts and generally liked it. I decided to buy it just to watch a few times. Now I can't stop watching it! The cast is done very well. Edward Furlong (T2, Pecker), James DeBello (Scary Movie 2, Cabin Fever), Giuseppe Andrews (Cabin Fever), and Sam Huntington (Not Another Teen Movie) play the four teens of whom the movie is focused on. The music was amazing! This was a major highpoint. I'm not speaking about the KISS music (some of it's good). There were just so many other great songs. The plot is a bit more complex than you think also.

In the beginning of "Detroit Rock City", we meet Hawk (Furlong), Trip (DeBello), Jeremiah "Jam" (Huntington), and Lex (Andrews). They are best buds and have a garage band named "MYSTERY". Their band was inspired by their favorite band, "KISS". They have four tickets to see the KISS concert in Detroit. When Jam's over religious mom (Lin Shaye), thinks that KISS is the devil she burns the tickets and takes Jam to a Catholic boarding school to get away from the devil. Back at school, Trip wins four tickets on a radio show. The tickets are being held in Detroit. The guys cut school, get Lex's mom's car, help Jam escape, and are on the way to Detroit. They make it to Detroit, but some surprises may be in store for them.

Plot - Yes, the plot is a bit simple. Yet, there are a lot of twists and turns that you wouldn't expect. There are a few gross out jokes, but nothing like "American Pie", "Road Trip", or any other of those movies. A plot doesn't need to be very complex. It just needs to take the viewer to a different place where anything can happen. This is what this movie does.
Plot - 94

Acting - I thought the acting was great! Many people hate teen actors because they seem to make up stupid lines, gross dialogue, and some bad language. But the actors in this movie remind me of real teenagers. Edward Furlong did very well, but seemed to be missing something. Sam Huntington was very good. I think he deserves a lot of credit. Giuseppe Andrews plays the quiet guy pretty well. He has some funny lines that just stick in your head. The scene stealer is James DeBello. I have not seen "Scary Movie 2" or "Cabin Fever" but I want to now. Every single line he said was hilarioius. I would say some, but there are too many. His best scenes were definitely when he was in the Smiley Mart. Overall, the acting was very well done.
Acting - 96

Comedy - I thought this movie had a great bit of comedy. It does have some drama though, but it's mostly geared towards the comedy part. There are a lot of funny scenes that I won't forget.
Comedy - 95

Music - The music was so awesome. I totally loved it! I loved David Bowie's "Rebel, Rebel". I also liked "Fox On The Run" and many others. As I said before, the music was a major highpoint. I don't think this movie would have been as good if they had not had this music choice. Good job to whoever picked it out!
Music - 100

DVD - The DVD of this movie is amazing! There are so many special features. It isn't even funny! There are two ways to navigate through screens. You can have text option or let the cast talk you through. I prefer text, but that's just me. There are commentaries, original theatrical trailers, deleted scenes, music videos, miscellaneous things that the cast has done, and much more. Also, the sound and clarity are beautiful. The sound is just great and the clarity is as clear as water! So buy the DVD and skip out on the VHS tape!
DVD - 100

Overall - This movie is a must have. It has everything from comedy to music to romance and to some drama. Pick up a copy today! It's a movie that will make you laugh and in the end make you feel good.
Overall - 97 A+

Rated R for drug content, strong pervasive language, some violence, and some crude sex-related humor.

Summary: Rock & Roll
Review: This movie is pure Rock and Roll. I never liked KISS, and I still don't like KISS. But this is a hysterical movie. The only problem that I have with it is that Melanie Lynskey (JAMs girlfriend) isn't in it more. A cult classic for sure. The DVD extras rock too. Commentary and a large amount of deleted scenes and whatnot are included. Pick this movie up and enjoy some good ol rock and roll.

Summary: KISS + a bad movie =????
Review: A bad movie. As a KISS fan, I just can't get into it. I actually enjoyed phantom of the park more, which was cheesy but never claimed to be anything more.

Summary: Great Movie!
Review: I never really liked Kiss (I still don't) but this movie rocks! It's hilarious, and the soundtrack's great. You have to see this movie, whoever you are.

Summary: Deserves more recognition!
Review: First off, this is one of the most underrated, and unknown comedies on the market right now. What makes this movie so special? Each and everyone of us can relate to most (if not all) of the characters in this movie. We ALL know atleast one over protective mother, a school slacker, and members of a certain "cliq" ie: Jocks, preps, goths or cheerleaders. This is truly a coming of age movie. To conform or not conform? These are the problems that face these 4 best buddies. This movie tells the tale of 4 friends that travel to Detroit to see their idols KISS for the very first time. They face many problems, however which I don't want to spoil for you. I MUST warn you that if you are not into rock music and know nothing about the rock scene in the 70's, then it may be hard for you to grasp all of the jokes. But I assure you that this movie will keep you laughing nontheless. And for [the price], this is one great deal, for an awesome movie.

Summary: AS THEY SAY IN THE TAMPON BIZ- SEE YOU NEXT PERIOD!!
Review: This movie rocks. It is one of my favorites. I've recommended it to a lot of people who claimed to have already seen it- but what got to me is the fact that they said it sucked!! How is someone capable of not liking this movie. Many have completely forgotten about the film since its not too big release in theatres. I had never seen the movie in theatres, but around four years after it came out, I was at the store. I noticed it was only like twn bucks, even though it seemed to be loaded with special features. So I went on the internet and checked out the reviews of the film on my trusty search site-amazon.com. All , or maybe most of the reviews seemed to have enjoyed the films. When there are so many reviews, you start looking for the bad reviews, because you subconciously want to have a reason not to buy it. And sure enough, I did find one, because there always is. But, that wasn't enough to change my decision of buying it. I bought it- somewhat confident it would be enjoyable, and I did enjoy it. I mean- I really enjoyed it. This is way more than I expected from this movie- It was like ten bucks for the classic film and to go full nine- the DVD was loaded with special features. This is a deal. I mean the movie is classic. But when you have a parent watch it, they look only for the profanity. When they know their kid is watching it, they subconciously desire to find things that they deem innappropiate and attempt to restrict your viewing of it. It is impossible for them to enjoy it- or at least admit they enjoy it. There are even people who have this movie practically specially made for their interests, who don't enjoy it. They claim to like it "to a point". They say it sucked. They hated it. But screw what everyone else says- if your movie preferences are anything like mine( and that means that you enjoy a good time, a good movie, and the occasional profanity adding to the "honesty" of the film - or in this case- piece of art!! Detroit Rock City rocks, and if you spend money on it and don't enjoy it- that's on you. Maybe there's something wrong with your taste- or perhaps their's something wrong with mine.

Whatever- I'm dragging on
Enjoy the movie (or not, whatever, I don't really care, but I recommend that you check out this movie if you already haven't. But in the immortal words of Trip - "Anyone up for an animo?"

Summary: Worth a visit
Review: When I tuned in to this movie on a late night last week, I was not expecting much. I didn't even know the title, it was just random channel surfing that lead me to it...

But I am glad I did. For the record, I am a nineties child. I've heard *of* KISS, but never actually *heard* them, nor batted an eyelid in their direction. I have no idea about their music, their following at all. You don't need to know any of that, you don't need any of it, to truly enjoy this movie. The main four actors are brilliant, and being someone who grew up in a Cathiloc household rather unwillingly, I did enjoy the jabs that were made. The story was simple, and the resolution could have been better, but still, it was a brilliant path to wander down and it is one which I am keen to visit again.

Brilliant.

Summary: My Favorite Movie of All Time
Review: Sure, the critics thought this movie [was bad]. But the critics think that every movie ever made should be a four-hour epic that moves you and makes you think. Sometimes they like the good movies, like The Shawshank Redmption, but for the most part, I tend to disagree with them.
Most people watch Detroit Rock City once and forget about it. Not me. In my eyes, this is a classic comedy. Some movies, like American History X, leave you feeling a little...sad...at the end, but this is THE movie that makes you feel happy from beginning to end.
It's about four teenagers in 1978 from Cleveland, Ohio, who want to go to Detroit to see Kiss live, since they've missed out on it for the past two years. Well, they get the tickets, and then they lose them. Needless to say, hilarity ensues. There are so many memorable lines in this movie; me and my friend quote them a lot at school.
I wouldn't recommend this movie if you don't like comedies, or are a film critic. Also, if you don't like the rock & roll of the 1970's, then pass this one by. Otherwise, you should enjoy it. I was born in late '87, so I don't have a damn clue what '78 was all about. But I could infer, and this movie (probably) showed me what it was like back then. All I know was that they had good music.
