Summary: So Many Better Romantic Comedies out there (even bad ones!)
Review: I confess. I love the romantic comedy genre. I adore outstanding romantic comedies (e.g., When Harry Met Sally). I'll watch mediocre, even bad ones, again and again. And I like Jennifer Lopez and Ralph Fiennes. But I could not handle this movie.
The plot holds some promise for the genre: wealthy Manhattan bachelor (Fiennes) mistakes NYC hotel maid (lopez) with cute son for guest.
Yet I felt as if I could see the Hollywood blue print for this movie superimposed over every scene. Did you like Pretty Woman? Well you'll have plenty of references-upscale bachelor and working girl, a scene where working girl/cinderella goes to ball, lots of clothes changes. Did you like WHen Harry Met Sally? Well you'll have references-Lopez and Fiennes walk side by side in Central Park a la Ryan and Crystal. Did you like Notting Hill? Well you have a big confessional press conference scene near the end (and Notting Hill's conference actually recalled Roman Holiday).
Lopez does inject warmth and humanity in her role. Natasha Richardson is very funny in a small role. But Ralph Fiennes-and it breaks my heart to say this-is miscast. Richard Gere couldn't play some of his roles and vice versa.
I would recommend this movie to individuals who need a quick fix of romantic comedy, not matter what the quality. You may enjoy it on the small screen. If your standards are high for romantic comedy, then this movie most likely will not be for you.

Summary: Jennifer Lopez's best movie since Out of Sight!
Review: Jennifer Lopez's best movie since Out of Sight! Maid In Manhattan is very much like Pretty Woman however J.Lo is not a hooker on Hollywood Blvd. but a maid named Marisa Ventura for a very expensive hotel. Marisa dreams of a better life but has learned to depend upon herself to get her there. Then Christopher Hall (Ralph Fiennes) who is running for Senate runs into her son one day on the elevator at the hotel she works at and brings him to her and by a twist of fate and mistaken identity, the two meet. Then they start to go out on the town together and papratzzi forms and what do you know she's on the front page of the paper. But this does not get her revealed it is when a rich woman who has a crush on Mr. Hall notices a fine piece of jewelery on the neck of Marisa when back in her maids outfit and reports it to the hotel manager. To find out what else happens you'll have to buy it or rent it on your own time.

Summary: Even better than I thought it would be!!!
Review: Jennifer Lopez sure has a comedic talent! She delivers a realness and you believe she IS the maid in this movie. I love her comic timing, her charm and her chemistry with Fines is superb.

Another fun chick flick with classic music!

Summary: Brought a smile to my face...
Review: Now this is not Shakespeare but I certainly wasn't expecting that. Maid in Manhattan delivers exactly what it promises and that is a sweet, engaging romance. I have waited a long time to see Ralph Fiennes play a romantic lead and finally he delivers. I purposely avoided seeing Red Dragon just so I wouldn't get my characters mixed up and fear for J-Lo's life.

One of the keys to Jennifer Lopez's successful acting future is to surround herself with solid actors and in this case she did. She also seemed to really have her mouth around the character she portrayed. Good for her. I might have tweaked the ending a little bit (a little too formula) but nothing is perfect and I think it is the best date movie of the past year...

Summary: UNINSPIRED ROMANTIC COMEDY - AVERAGE TRANSFER
Review: "Maid In Manhattan" is the thoroughly uninspired romantic comedy that asks the question, "Can a poor Latino hotel maid find true love with a Waspish playboy?" Predictably, the answer is yes. But the story goes nowhere and fast. Jennifer Lopez is the poor, but proud, maid who impersonates a society dame to win the heart of the ultra-bland senator, played by Ralph Fiennes. The plot is trite, relying heavily on stereotypes and cliches, with simplistically drawn characters, wasted opportunities and zero romantic chemistry between the two principle leads. Stellar talents, Bob Hoskins and Stanley Tucci, are wasted in a nothing supporting roles. The whole film smacks of starvation for some witty dialogue. Instead we get excessive music video-eque montages and the all too preachy sermons from Lopez, who has to keep reminding Fiennes and us that being Latino and poor are not handicaps.
Columbia Tristar's 2:35:1 anamorphic transfer, like the film's subject matter, is fairly average. Colors are well balanced. Fine detail can be nicely rendered but, on occasion, gets lost in a soft haze. Edge enhancement and shimmering are present but not obtrusive. Contrast and black levels are fairly accurate. Pixelization can break up background information from time to time. The audio is 5.1 and reasonably well represented. The music track seems excessively overpowering, jumping off the center and side channel speakers.
BOTTOM LINE: This film is strictly for those who love J-Lo. It's not in the least bit entertaining, believable or engaging. Hollywood needs better screenwriting than this.

Summary: One word...
Review: BORING! Wasn't this movie supposed to be a comedy? It was so unbelievably boring, I COULD NOT even believe it. The ads for it were better than the movie itself. I mean, let's face it, we all know what's going to happen. The movie follows the same predictable story-line so many others do, but I at least thought they would TRY make it funny. Other movies viewers can guess the ending to just by watching the ads, are at least fun to watch. This is a complete waste of time, it seems to go on forever. The only good aspects are the British woman (and her rude friend), whom Jennifer Lopez's character steals clothes from and the French women who steal room supplies from the cleaning trollies. Those characters at least made for some comic relief. Anyway, this movie is NOT a romantic-comedy, it's a boring-unromantic-predictable-pointless movie. Don't waste your money.

Summary: A Cliche Movie
Review: I may be a bit generous in rating this movie two stars. I do not think it is as bad as some people have said, but neither is it very good.

First and foremost, the plot breaks no new ground. We've had movies about maids that were quaint and funny and ended up giving us a lesson about life ("Maid to Order" with Ally Sheedy). We've had movies about women that were disadvantaged in life and managed to keep their dignity while trying to better themselves ("Pretty Woman" is a great movie of this type, and "Erin Brockovich" had similar elements of someone overcoming their background to get ahead).

This movie tries to breathe life into this genre by trying to contrast the maid with management potential and a multi-millionaire. Unfortunately, we never see the development of the relationship as we do in "Pretty Woman". Instead, the multi-millionaire sees the hot Hispanic babe in a suite, and automatically starts lusting for her. Big deal. Where is the chemistry? Where is the achievement of understanding in how each sees the world, and the problems each face? The relationship development between these two is less than shallow, it's completely dry.

Second, the acting in this movie is not all that stellar. I've seen Jennifer Lopez act. She can be a very good actress. However, this movie does not allow her to be sympathetic. Her performance is as wooden as the script. As for Fiennes, Richard Gere in "Pretty Woman" was absolutely emoting as compared to Mr. Fiennes. An extreme underutilization of two people with talent.

Lastly, this movie is one big cliche. There is the maid cliche. The poor girl-rich guy cliche. The downtrodden Hispanic cliche. The best friend (Jennifer's) cliche. The ditzy, dumb, rich women cliche. I could list cliches for a long time. This movie could have been different if Fiennes was a maid and Jennifer Lopez was rich. The dumb, ditzy, rich women could have been gay men after Fiennes. This movie had potential. Unfortunately it became just one more Cinderella story wannabe. Underdone and overhyped, if you insist on watching this, please rent it first, or wait until it hits the dollar bin some time next year.

Summary: Just Plain Horrible
Review: This movie has no sense of script. The two people that fall in love barely even meet eachother when they do. I would write more, but this movie was so boring I practically fell asleep through it and I just can't remember much of it. Never buy it. If you want to see a real movie than go to a theater to watch Chicago.

Summary: Well, It's worth renting it.
Review: Well, a lot of reveiws I've seen writen about this dvd here are saying how horrible jlo is and how they hate her singing and that they'd never see this movie in a million yrs. If so, plz don't write a reveiw about it!!! I personally despize jlo
s music, but I think that this moive was pretty good.

This was decent movie. It was very similar to the theme of the moive "Ever After" (with Drew Barrymore) witch was set in midevil times, and is also much like a cinderella story. You see, in "Ever After", a girl's father dies, and is servent to her dreadful step mother and step sisters. When she must save her fellow sevent from being sold to the palace, she dresses up like a lady and the price sees her. Thinking that she too is noble, he falls in love with her. She continues dressing up so, convincing herself that she will tell him eventually, and when she tell him he is extremly destressed. He's mad that she desived him, and also mad that a servent could win his heart. However, he soon realizes that it doesn't matter if she is noble or not, because he loves her. After this he forgives her and they live happily "ever after". I like this story much better, becuase it is much more compeling and thought provoking than Maid in Manhattan, yet they are much the same.

Bottom line? Rent Maid in Manhattan, it's worth it, and the kid who plays her son in the movie is great. Also, rent "ever after" It's one I own, and watch all the time.
