Summary: Excellent Movie
Review: I haven't read Anne Tyler's book, and the first time I saw The Accidental Tourist I wasn't terribly impressed, but something lured me to watch it again and again until I loved it! Its a movie that you have to study to understand and appreciate, and perhaps, if I had read the book, that would have helped. I love the weirdness of Macon's family - kind of reminds me of my family when I was growing up! Its hilarious when they don't answer the phone and the way the brothers play with people's minds. The thing I love most about the movie is it's happy ending (not about Macon leaving his wife - I assume we're supposed to believe they didn't love each other anymore anyway). But when Muriel sees Macon in the cab and he's smiling (I think the first time in the movie) and she realizes he loves her and relief covers their faces, its wonderful. I get goose bumps and teary-eyed everytime. When Julian and Rose get together, its so romantic and refreshing. The Accidental Tourist is a wonderful movie and one that I think will be more and more appreciated with time. Great acting, great storyline, great characters!

Review: A good movie . All of this film are under a nostalgic atmosphere, owing to the hue and the music. William Hurt's performance is excellent. Geena Davis is as well too. The last scene is great. only some complaints: The pace of the movie is a bit slow, and the plot is linear. Music can be more colorful (the main theme appears too many times). (And how about the dog and Julian's fate? They all disappear in the last half of this film.)

Summary: WISE AND WONDERFUL
Review: Anne Tyler's book is warm, wise and wonderfully subtle; this movie does it absolute justice, and takes on its own special glow. I am not really a William Hurt fan, but the vulnerability he displays here will surprise you; Geena Davis has never been better than she was here (I can still hear her clucking as she trains Hurt's dog; she gets under your skin with a sweet, deceptively simple performance). The understated but essential love story creeps up on you in the most appealing way -- this movie, without being showy in the least, is one filled with hope and possibility.

Summary: Worth watching again and again
Review: This film is practically flawless. Every actor is superb and plays their role to the hilt. To see Macon interact with Muriel's little boy is worth it all. But the near-the-end camera shot when Macon's smiling face takes up the entire screen provides the perfect ending. If you've ever felt like Macon, this film is inspirational.

Review: Anne Tyler's book is a masterpiece, as well as is this film. Although portions of the novel are omitted from the film, that does not prevent the viewer from being enchanted by this painful but heart-rendering story. This is by far William Hurt's best performance. Although a flawed character, the pain of his misfortunes in life are readily sympathetic; and Hurt is marvelous in portraying it. The supporting cast that make up his family and friends are equally good, but no doubt this is Hurt's showcase film. No one could have portrayed this character as well as he did. I have seen this film a number of times now and it still rates as one of my all time favorites. My only wish now would be when WB issues this film on DVD to make sure it is in WideScreen format.

Review: This movie is worth seeing, IF you have the patience to actually listen to the dialogue and watch the character development. If you don't, then don't bother, you won't get it. But I was thoroughly impressed with this adaptation of Anne Tyler's novel. William Hurt is impressive as Macon Leary, a writer who can not tolerate change or instability and is suddenly forced to deal with his son's death and his separation from his wife. Geena Davis, in her Oscar-winning performance, plays the odd woman who helps Macon to experience life rather than just let it pass him by. Fine supporting cast, enchanting musical score...all in all a great film.

Review: I loved this film when I was 18, and I still love it now at 29. I can't understand the people who didn't get it. It does move slow, like a mood or a non-waking dream--that is what Macon is going through, and I felt it.

Review: Normally I like Kasdan's films, I like William Hurt and I like Geena Davis. Not here. Not ever.I saw this film twice when it came out...once by myself, and once with friends from out of town who really wanted to see it. I felt validated after the second viewing when my friends were as confounded as I was. An amazingly slow and thoroughly uninteresting film. SteveS.
