Summary: loving unconditional love
Review: I didn't expect anything out of this movie. I like Kathy Bates and Rupert Everett so I gave it a try. The previews looked dreadful. This movie isn't that. It is a sweet romantic comedy / murder mystery and it's pretty darn funny.

Summary: A dwarf, Barry Manilow, and Sally Jesse Raphael
Review: I had never heard of this movie and had just assumed that I had somehow managed to miss it in general release, but then I read a review that said New line never released it in the theatres, to avoid the embarassment of a theatrical release of this monstrosity. That being said, I loved this movie! It is totally bizarre in every way, but I would say it's at least as good as About Schmidt, of which the plot bears a vague resemblance, and I would much rather watch this again than that. The cast involves Kathy Bates, Rupert Everett, a sassy dwarf, Barry Manilow, and Sally Jesse Rafael, among others. It's weird and funny and touching and I think not releasing it in theatres shows a definite lack of imagination. The eight people who have reviewed it so far seemed to like it, and I bet if more than people actually saw it, they would like it, too.

Summary: Lame, total waste of talent
Review: I love Kathy Bates, but this movie, with a great cast never takes off or hits a mark. Julie Andrews doing "Getting to Know You" once was quite enough, there was no need for an encore. It is a bad "gay" movie, and a bad "straight" movie. The start is incredibly slow and bland and when Miss Bates lands herself in England, hopefully to pick up the pace, it continues on it's banal course. This movie needs some spice, a lot more wit and a much faster pace. There is no comparing this to Muriel's Wedding or Four Weddings and a Funeral. This is a gaggy sweet over predictable piece of maribou fluff, that not even a sight gag like the "corpse in drag" can save.

Summary: I was bowled over!
Review: I picked up this movie because it's one of the few non "R" movies made recently. It sat on my coffee table for several days as I wondered what it would be like. Finally I decided to play it, thinking that at worst I could always turn it off. But it was WONDERFUL! Kathy Bates is fantastic, wistful, sincere and I was drawn into her life. Rupert Everett plays his role with that quirky manner that won me over in An Ideal Husband and My Best Friend's Wedding. I'd never seen Ms. Eaton before but although I winced at her language a bit (yeah, I'm old fashioned) I thought she was terrific too. And, speaking of the word "terrific", seeing Julie Andrews send herself up made me laugh out loud. All in all, I enjoyed the movie thoroughly!

Summary: "Why do birds suddenly appear?"
Review: I was trapped!!! I was over at my Mother's house and at the last moment, in a state of absolute resignation, I agreed to watch this movie. Before I came over I heard her relay the brief synopsis of the film over the phone and I was expecting a ridiculous yarn filled with ridiculous characters. It has all that, but it is more often than not surprisingly entertaining. Kathy Bates is the brightest star here and she portrays her "homemaker" character with great subtelty and depth, making her instantly likeable. Rupert Everett shows up about a third of the way into the film and is just one of the many character actors in this film that shine upon arrival. The major flaws appear when the viewer starts thinking too much. In fact, sometimes thinking at all will ruin a scene. For instance(s), there are some great moments when characters break out in song. Even though the scene calls for singing to occur it is still very refreshing amid all the crazy and far-fetched plotting circling around. Kathy Bates sings! She has more than just a pleasant voice. I was often impressed. She carries this film, being the proverbial "heart" of the story, but the entire cast is superb. There are even a few cameo appearances including Barry Manilow and Julie Andrews. This movie is completely unbelievable, but overall, it is a surprising and entertaining film. Recommended.

Summary: A surprise charmer of a film
Review: Life isn't going very well for Grace Beasley. First, her husband Max decides to end their 25-year marriage so that he can live life more dangerously. And, then, her favorite singer Victor Fox is murdered by the Crossbow Killer. Determined to turn her life around, she sets off for England to pay her last respects at Victor's funeral.

Events take a unique turn when Grace meets Victor's lover, Dirk Simpson, and Victor's three sisters. Seems they want to evict Dirk from their brother's house, but Dirk insists that Victor left it to him. Grace and Dirk form a quick friendship and get back at the three sisters. Then, Grace convinces Dirk to come back to Chicago with her to find the Crossbow Killer.

A little "out there" at times with the plot, this movie is still quite charming and funny. Kathy Bates is both warm and hysterical as Grace. Rupert Everett is equally charming and funny as Dirk Simpson. Even Julie Andrews shows up in two of the best moments in the film. But ,Meredith Eaton steals the movie as Grace's dwarf daughter-in-law Maudey. She's brash and funny and gives one of the best performances I've seen.

The only extras on the DVD are a theatrical trailer and a deleted scene. It's still a movie that surprised me with its charm and humor.

Summary: "Unconditional Love" is a Gem of a Movie to Watch!
Review: Not since "A Fish Called Wanda" has there been a perfect blending of American and British comedy all into one movie. "Unconditional Love" is a film worth your time and money to watch. The essential theme to "Unconditional love" is all about the need to be loved and accepted. Why this movie never made it to theater release is beyond me as this movie made me laugh, shed a tear or two, and overall feel good about myself. The only regret I experienced with this movie was discovering that it's wonderful soundtrack sang by the multi-talented Jonathan Pryce with his handsome singing voice, was never released. A lost for Pryce's fans.

Anyway, if you are an admirer of Kathy Bates, Dan Aykroyd, Rupert Everett, Jonathan Pryce, Julie Andrews, Lynn Redgrave, and Barry Manilow, then don't miss a chance to view this nearly lost gem of a movie.
