Rating: Summary: Some Laughs, and Some Snores... Review: Bandits has an all-star cast of great actors. So, naturally I thought it would be a great movie, but I was wrong. Bandits was, in a way, very true to it's name, because at some parts it felt like it stole my money. It had it's moments, but most of them were silly. Cate Blanchett was one of only good parts of the movie. Billy Bob Thorton was also funny, but his character kind of got silly, and redundant. Bruce Willis was also funny, but he acted the same way he did in The Whole Nine Yards. The script at times was funny, but it was too long. I found myself looking at my watch a lot. I also felt like I was in a music video with the frequent music montages. Without most of them, the time could have been cut down. But there were some surprises and some funny moments. If you are bored see this movie, it might make you laugh, but it make you even more bored...
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Wonderful Review: This movie is hilarious and simply all-around great to watch. It's a joy. Billy Bob Thorton is brilliant and I think deserves an OSCAR for his performance. You shouldn't be disappointed when you see it. I haven't seen a movie of this caliber in a long time.
Rating: Summary: Funny, funny, funny Review: I did not expectt his film to be funny at all. It was hilarious from start to finish. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend this movie as a pick up in troubled times!
Rating: Summary: Great flick Review: Barry Levinson has come through again with a great comedy that is really a very well made character story not unlike his previous work in Good Morning Vietnam or Wag the Dog. This is one of the few really good movies I've seen this year. This movie succeeds on the levels of comedy, characters, and technical achievement. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Comedy with some good laughs but little of everything else Review: The Sleepover Bandits are two of the most successful robbers on the West coast, hitting several banks in Oregon and California with effciency while keeping their identity concealed. That is until a woman comes into their life, making things complicated for them in what turned out to be a messy love triangle.Billy Bob Thornton really steals the show as the eccentric and quirky Terry, he has some of the best lines in the movie and a lot of physical comedy to go with it. Cate Blanchett also shined as Kate, she did a good job portraying the disappointed and stressed out wife looking for some excitement in her life. There really isn't much to say about Bruce Willis, his character Joe is the typical tough guy which we've seen him play numerous times, luckily his performance is a bit better than in the disappointing Whole Nine Yards. Unfortunately, that's about the only good thing about Bandits, everything else are just mediocre. The plot is so messy and aimless one would often wonder what's the point of the movie, the direction by Barry Levinson was average at best with the way he handled the flashback scenes. But with all the flaws in the film, I still had a great time thanks to the good chemistry and interaction between the characters, and hilarious situations they often find themselves in. Oscar material this is not, but if you're looking for a fun night at the theater, try Bandits on for size, you just might like it.
Rating: Summary: Brainy Bandits! Review: I really liked this movie with Bruce Willis and Billy Bob Thorton portraying Joe and Terry two escaped convicts who are in need of money. They decide to do what they do best, rob banks, so they can make a reasonably decent life, without having to work flipping burgers. They meet up with Kate (Cate Blanchett)a lonely house wife who decides to go along and rob banks with them. But finds that Joe and Terry both like her. With such a talented cast how can you go wrong.
Rating: Summary: THE BANDIT CATE Review: While the focus on this cleverly orchestrated movie is on Bruce Willis and Billy Bob Thornton, it is the delightful presence of Cate Blanchett that gives BANDITS its overall appeal. Cate all but steals the film as a frustrated and lonely housewife who finds a way out of her miserable existence when she hits Thornton with her car and then joins him on his rendezvous with Willis. Whether she's dancing along to HOLDING OUT FOR A HERO, or unable to sing along with heartbreaking TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE HEART, Blanchett proves her star status by showing us all the aspects of her character's personality. She can be tender, feisty, sexy or coy, and she makes her character a pivotal point of interest. Bruce and Billy Bob, however, are excellent as the two Sleepover Bandits, whose gentlemanly charm has made them kind of national heroes in the public's warped eyes. Thornton's neurotic hypochondrias is funny and his nervous optic tic adds dimension. Willis shows a sensitive side too, and Troy Garity as their mentally challenged stuntman friend is perfect. Director Barry Levinson lets us down a little in the middle of the picture by slowing the pace a little too much, but by the end of the movie, we are back with the main plot and its predictable yet clever ending is satisfying. BANDITS is a well done movie, and thanks to its talented cast, particularly Oscar nominee Blanchett, it soars.
Rating: Summary: TOPS! Review: In brief--one of the flat-out funniest movies ever. All the characters are off the wall, yet with a kind of dead-pan humor that gets you going. I don't agree with the philosohy that it's okay to steal from the wealthy, but still the movie comes across. Just so well brought off! The wonderful "turn" at the end will satisfy too. Great laughs. Neurotic, off-beat characters we like anyway!
Rating: Summary: What are you waiting for? RENT THIS MOVIE!!! Review: This movie was so cool. It's absolutely hilarious. The plot is fast-paced and in-depth. You'll for sure grow to love the characters. The ending is unexpected and fantastic. There are truely not enough good words to describe this movie with. I beg you to see this movie. It's got everything you could ask for. GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: An Unexpected Find Review: I admit that, when I first checked out this film, I had my apprehensions. "Another thief movie? Does the world need this?" I recall thinking. However, Billy Bob Thornton has not done me wrong yet, so I put aside prejudice and watched, and could not be happier. It is a very Thornton type of movie... about shattered characters just barely keeping themselves together, but at the same time pulling off acts of genius. The writing and characterizations are impressive and, more importantly, have a ring of truth about them. Yes, they are extreme, but it is only in the extreme that we can really recognize and acknowledge some of the latent seeds of unbalance within the minds of all. Add fine acting into the mix, a soundtrack that is perfectly tuned to the different circumstances of the film, and an ending that rivals the best, and there should be little to no cause for disappointment, provided you understand that this movie is not a typical action film and don't expect an explosion every two seconds to satisfy your latent cro-magnon tendencies...
