Summary: Mr Deeds
Review: I wasn't too thrilled about MR DEEDS but I didn't think it was flushable either. I just wasn't feeling and for the simple fact of 2 words, Winona Ryder. I thought she was terrible in this movie and for me, it really showed.Longfellow Deeds (Adam Sandler) just found out that he just inherited 40 Billion Dollars! Now he has to leave his small town life, go to New York City and get his money. This is his first time away from his small town and now he's a little fish in a big pond and plus the fact that he doesn't know what to do with all the money he's inherited. While he's having some fun, he meets Pam (Winona Ryder) and falls in love with her. It's another romantic comedy like BIG DADDY. Along with sneaky Butler, Emilio, he finds out some things he never knew about life in the big city and even some things about life in general. At first, I didn't think it was that bad but again, I was really not fond of MR DEEDS either because Ryder's performance in this movie is very bad. Now granted yes, her character is an undercover reporter but still it was not working and her performance seriously made me take an additional 2 stars off. For me personally, the only thing that really kept me going in this movie was Emilio the butler. He's pretty funny. And of course cameos from John McEnroe and Rob Schneider don't hurt. Other than that, Ryder's performance really hurt this movie. I'd have to rent this one first because I honestly can't say that this a great blockbuster movie. It's O.k. but it's not one of Sandler's best. It's an alright romantic comedy/date movie but there are some better ones. It's worth a rental but I really suggest that you lower your expectations. If you go into this movie with really high expectations (like HAPPY GILMORE or WATER BOY expectations), than you'll be disappointed. If you take MR DEEDS as what it is, than you won't feel so bad about it.

Summary: So bad I stopped watching halfway through
Review: I have enjoyed most of Sandler's movies and therefore expected to like this one, too, especially since the word of mouth was good. However, I found it so bad that I stopped watching in the middle. Although every movie takes liberties with reality, some of them go too far. This is one of them, and that's the primary reason I disliked it. To begin with the 82-year-old man who freezes to death at the top of Mt. Everest could not be lifted off by a helicopter. No helicopter ever made can hover at that altitude. There might not even be one that can fly at that altitude. Secondly, Sandler's character reveals a blackened foot that had been severely frostbitten years ago and invites the butler to wail on it with a fireplace poker. He can't feel the pain. Okay, fine, but that doesn't mean beating on the foot with a heavy iron bar wouldn't damage it. Then we see Sandler's character climbing the side of a building to save a woman whose apartment is on fire. How could he possibly be so agile with such a damaged foot? That's a rhetorical question because, of course, he couldn't. Lastly, Winona Ryder's character, a tabloid journalist, poses as an ordinary person in order to get close to Sandler's character and secretly record his activities with a hidden camera. Yet the tape we see was shot from positions she couldn't possibly have been in. (Like three stories high in the case of the apartment fire.) And it defies credibility that Sandler's character doesn't figure out after the first incident that Winona Ryder's character did the taping defies credibility. This movie is a real stinker. I gave it one star.

Review: I am not an Adam Sandler fan, as I find most of his work inane, crude, juvenile, and not funny. It was my friend's turn to choose the movie to rent, and he picked "Mr. Deeds" even though he had seen it before. I was expecting to sit through a movie for his sake, but was pleasantly surprised. The Story: This is a remake of the 1936 Frank Capra-Gary Cooper film, "Mr. Deeds Goes to Town", but modernized. A billionaire media mogul dies, and the search is on for an heir to $40 billion in stock, with company executives planning to buy out the heir, liquidate the company, and walk away with full pockets (hmm, very contemporary). They find the heir, Longfellow Deeds (Sandler) running a pizzeria in small-town New Hampshire, fly him in to New York, set him up in the luxury of his late great-uncle, mansion-apartment, and expect an easy time of hoodwinking Deeds, who is straightforward, kindhearted, and naive. Wrong! First of all, the tabloids go after the big story by having a pretty reporter (Winona Ryder, who doesn't steal the show -- or anything else here -- but who does a fine job) pose as a small-town girl in distress -- conveniently in a spot where Deeds can rescue her and start falling in love. He does fall in love with her, but she also falls in love with him. Her boss doesn't care, and edits the footage she captures via hidden camera to vilify Deeds. Meanwhile, Deeds is charming everyone with his kindness, redneck chivalry, and straightforward manner, which ultimately leads to . . . ooops, I'm not supposed to give away too much of the story. Adam Sandler is seldom ridiculous in this movie, which makes him, and the movie, funnier. There are a few juvenile moments, some of the language is lockeroomish, and the fighting is occasionally excessive (although the fight between Winona Ryder and Conchata Ferrell near the end, while crude at times, was so excessive as to be absurdly funny). Erick Avari is wonderful as one of the businessmen originally out to cheat Deeds (although you can tells he's ready to switch sides right from the beginning). Steve Buscemi has a small but beautifully quirky part as "Crazy Eyes". John Turturro almost steals the show as Emilio, the servant of the deceased rich uncle, and friend to Deeds. Emilio never goes anywhere . . . he just gets there (he suddenly is there, with no in-between); I expected this gag to get old, but it never did for me. Conchata Ferrell is perfect as the gritty Earth-mother waitress friend of Deeds. I wavered between three stars and four stars as my rating, which matches this film's overall rating (between three and four). It has its weaknesses, and I'm not sure I'd want to see it more than once (although my friend enjoyed it the second time), but I liked it enough to end up going for four and putting this qualifier paragraph in.

Summary: John Tutturo is great in this Typical Sandler movie
Review: This is very much like every other Adam Sandler movie I've seen, with the exception of "Punch Drunk Love". Sandler's character, Deeds, is far from intelligent, and you will recognize a lot of the actors from his other movies, his friends in Big Daddy, Steve Buscemi(once again appearing uncredited), and 80's music!!!
Deeds inherits a penthouse, $40 billion dollars and a company from a relative who turns into a popsicle after climbing a mountain. He goes to New York City to retrieve(or does he?) his fortune. I'm not going to rehash the entire plot of the story, if you like Adam Sandler's movies, chances are you are going to get a few chuckles out of this one. The reason I gave this movie four stars is for John Tuturro. He plays the butler/servant for Deeds, and has a fascination with feet. When I saw his name in the credits I was wondering what the heck he was doing on this movie. All I could think of was Kathy Bates being in "The Waterboy". BUT, John's character added most of the truly funny moments in the movie. I laughed at every scene he was in. Otherwise this is a very predictable romantic comedy.

Summary: Simply a bad movie.
Review: Mr. Deeds is, quite simply, an awful movie. Sandler has done some funny stuff in his career and some really bad stuff in his career. This movie is near the top of the 'bad stuff' list. It's no secret that Sandler is not an actor so because of that, I would expect a very funny script to help make up for that fact. There is hardly anything funny in the movie. Even his high-powered co-stars can't save this one. I wouldn't recommend anyone rent this movie, let alone pay money to own it.

Review: This movie was a severe disappointment. Seems as though Adam Sandler is producing more... than you can shake a stick at. My 14 year old didn't even want the DVD after he saw it. Adam, your name may get your name in the doors of Hollywood - but not much longer if this type of material keeps getting produced. Are you losing your touch due to getting older?

Review: I didn't find a single funny scene in this flick. how can they produce such garbage and actually sell it. winona ryder whom I usually like was pretty bad here too. save your money. There is nothing clever about this movie. This is defintely one of the worse movies of all time. I could not believe they call this a "comedy". Three thumbs down!

Summary: Adam Sandler vs Gary Cooper
Review: The folks I talked to who loved Mr. Deeds with Adam Sandler were the ones who have never seen the original with Gary Cooper. Among the ones who have seen the Gary Cooper version, Mr. Deeds Goes to Town, all including myself, find Gary Cooper's portrayal far superior. So I say, find the Gary Cooper version and compare for yourself. Gary Cooper is unbeatable!!

Summary: Poor film
Review: Before playing the movie, I imagined it to have that Happy Gilmore theme, putting two different types, together. Like Happy Gilmore, they took a hockey player (mean, tough, crude) and placed him as a golfer. I imagined the same with this movie, proper decent people on one side, and a loud mouth on the other.
However, they too were loud and goofy, and that ruined some of the movie.
It may have been more funny if the other side was nice and decent, and had this clown acting like a fool.
