Summary: Full Screen???
Review: I really liked this movie and I will buy it, but why in the name of all-that-is-holy is this DVD in Full Screen only?!? I don't even like to buy non-anamorphic DVDs, but to not even have a widescreen version is insane!

Summary: Wonderful!
Review: If you like quirky films, you will love Hugo Pool, it's quirky at it's best. I loved just about everything about this film. Almost all the performances were excellent. Especially Patrick Dempsey, as a man with Lou Gherig's disease confined to a wheelchair, who can only speak with the aid of a computer. That must have been the most difficult role of his career and he did a superb job. Robert Downey Jr. plays a freaky film director. I was so tickled every time he was on screen, he was delightfully wacko! I say almost all the performances were excellent, with the exception of Sean Penn, who seemed to have aobut as much enthusiasm as a bowl of soggy cornflakes. His character could have been played much better by almost anyone else. Whenever he was on screen, I wanted to take a nap! I did love his shoes though! :-) On the whole, great film!

Summary: Tired of standard movie fare? Get this odd, charming tale
Review: In spite of little tension in the plot(?) and unbelievably quirky characters, this film is fairly original and interesting. It has some amusing sub-themes, e.g. "walking", that play out in various forms. Milano as Hugo is charming, while the supporting cast of characters is likable in spite of their faults. The result lends an unlikely measure of hope to a world depicted as hopelessly inept.

Summary: Quirky Movie with an All Star Cast.
Review: It's a shame that you can get an all star cast like Sean Penn, Robert Downey Jr, Patrick Dempsey, and Malcolm Mcdowell, and many others and get such a slow paced, corny, movie. The movie is about a pool cleaner named Hugo, played by the charming Alyssa Milano, and her eccentric clients as well as her crazy parents(Mcdowell and Cathy Moriarty). The movie is cute and quirky but moves wat too slow. I never cared about any of the characters except Alyssa Milano's and Patrick Dempsey, who plays a parapalegic who falls in love with Hugo. Whenever there was a scene without Alyssa Milano the movie bore me too tears. Thank God she is in most of the movie. Sean Penn is terrible a guy who wears blue suede shoes and Robert Downey Jr is way over the top as a eccentric dutch alchoholic. Instead of caring about these characters I felt sorry for them. i highly recommend this film for Alyssa Milano fans. She is a revelation in this movie. Too bad the rest of the talented cast is wasted.

Summary: Best original story since last Downey movie.
Review: Once again Robert Downey Sr. comes out with a original movie. You dont see this, in many directors any more. This movie is so simple yet with each of it's strange characters, the movie turns out to be not just about a pool cleaner, but about a drug addict, a man with ALS, a gambling mother, a angry mobster. All these great characters would not normaly fit in a movie together but Downey some how made it happen. Sean Penn and Malcolm Mcdowell are great. It will make you smile.

Summary: Some good qualities
Review: Overall I found this to be a very strange movie. One shining aspect of it was the relationship that Alyssa Milano's character tried to develop with Patrick Dempsey's character. I found that part of it very touching, but the rest of the movie rather disjointed. I rented this specifically to see Robert Downey Jr. He certainly is an extremely talented and gifted actor, but what I saw was certainly not what I expected. It seemed that this movie was obviously trying to hard to be quirky.

Summary: Touching and Triste
Review: Robert Downey Sr. (still getting over his wife's recent death from Lou Gehrig's disease) made this great all star casted tale about a pool cleaner, her gambling mother, drug addict dad & her newfound friendship with a customer who has the debilitating disease (Patrick Dempsey was incredible). It's a quirky love story, that teaches the viewer about the disease, but it doesn't throw the "they're-normal-on-the-inside-so-you-better-accept-them" in your face. Sean Penn played a great role about a quiet guy obsessed with his suede shoes. It was surprisingly entertaining, and you love all the characters, even though they're all insane.

Summary: Alyssa makes you yank your yanker
Review: She is pretyy pretty pretty and wears plenty of skimpy clothes here, a masterpiece of b-film cinema.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Alyssa's best role to date.
Review: The story takes place in a couple of days. This made for a very realistic progression of events. The comedy was present, but not overpowering for this drama. One of my favorite movies of all time.
