Summary: I just don't know.
Review: Seems like I'm one of the few people alive who actually liked this mvie. Sure, it's a little goofy sometimes (the dream sequence is Exhibit A), but all in all, I think this movie is definitely worth the money. Eddie Murphy fans will love the humor, and when you get right down to it, it's a great yarn. Charles Dance does a great job as Sardum Numspa, but that's not surprising; his approach to playing bad guys is such that, no matter how sophisticated his characters may be, the viewer still instinctively knows that this isn't a guy you want to run into at night in a dark alley. (If you're having trouble placing him, watch "Last Action hero" and "Alien 3.") At any rate, give it a shot; it's definitely worth it!

Summary: Decent fun flick
Review: Surreal. Action. Super-natural stuff. Comedy. Perhaps it is the eccentric mix that has confused and disappointed people. This movie strays extremely far from the "realism" of Beverly Hills Cop, 48 hours, Trading Places. The Golden Child reminds me very much of Big Trouble in Little China, in the way it mixes myth with action and humor. Altough to be honest there really is very litte action in The Golden Child. Eddie plays average guy thrust into a world he doesn't understand or really believe, and being that it is Eddie Murphy, there is humor to be found. This isn't his best movie or a "great" movie, perhaps the mix of so many elements leaves each one a bit too weak. Yes it is funny, but it is a far cry from a gut busting laugh fest. If you can appreaciate the ecentric mix of genres and are looking for a hidden gem that not all can "get", i highly recommend watching this movie. I only say watching since, after all, it is a Paramount release, ie, extremely high price for a bare bones, back cataloge, middle of the road movie. Shame on them.

Review: The movie is over all amuzing and well worth watching. The cast seems to work together well and the vilian is perfect. This is one of Eddie's earlier but very funny shows.

Summary: A bit on the serious side... like a good pirate film.
Review: There's something to be said about a film that doesn't take itself too seriously and for me, that's what makes this film work. The romance that almost works, the sometimes Indiana Jones characterization, the dry humor more reminiscent of Bill Murray -- all of these things push this film into mediocrity. It might be better, but it could be a whole lot worse. It has the "feel" of a 1930s/40s setting, more because of the alien settings (even in modern Los Angeles) and I have to wonder if some of this film didn't steal from Carpenter's Big Trouble in Little China...

While others (especially the critics) panned this one, I suspect they were looking for another fast-talking, wise-cracking performance and that just isn't to be found in this interesting film. What we have is a more subdued and serious Eddy Murphy, but not taking himself too seriously, who is caught up in a very strange situation. Murphy plays the part with about the right mix of "what's going on here" and "I think I'm still in control." Give this one a chance and if you don't like it, well, it isn't for everyone.

But it is for me and comes in just above average...

Review: this film isn't one of Eddie's best or even that good or even pretty good.i thought Charlotte Lewis was nice looking but a okay actress at best.nobody i know talks about this film and with good reason it's not something you choose to remember.

Summary: Golden Balls
Review: This film made a lot of money on its release, and i was not surprised: there was action comedy, and Charles Dance not pronouncing his "j"'s coupled with some special effects circa 1978. what more could it need?

And yet...for some reason, after watching this film, i felt somehow unfulfilled. Perhaps it was not explaining who the real bad guy was(i'm sorry, Forces Of Evil is not enough for me). Maybe it was the low low grade action. Maybe it was just the Forces of Evil surrounding me, but the truth is, i just couldn't bring myself to be able to like this film.

It is however not all bad, This is Eddie Murphy on vintage "Trading Places" style form, which is always worth the laugh, and there is one dream sequence which is so surreal its...well, surreal.

Despite this however, my suggestion would be to watch it on TV rather than buy it. it just aint worth the nuggets.

Summary: Golden Child a hit to remeber
Review: This movie is a good movie. If you like Eddie then this is a must see. There were a few things that I would have changed for example the dancing Pepsi can was cute but not for this type of movie. The demon could have been a little more devil like but thats alright I still loved this movie.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Great movie. Eddie Murphy should get an lifetime award.
Review: This movie is great on so many levels. Not only is the plot tight, but humor is spread thoughout like evenly spread butter on a piece of toast.

I think if only he expanded a little on the spiritual side, It might have been a bit greater.

Truth has a tendency to stick with people.
