Rating: Summary: Good but not Great Review: This was a pretty good movie. My favorite character was Lucky (the dog). It had a good plot. However, it seemed too long and yet too short. Sometimes you had to wonder why they stuck some parts in the movie. If you are just looking to be amused, this is a good movie to see. If you want a complex plot, complex characters, and no fart jokes, go see another movie.
Rating: Summary: very close to the original Review: I thought that this was just as funny and as good as it's predecessor. SO for you fans of the original one with Eddie Murphy, you will not be disappointed. This installment has a new crop of actors/actresses doing the voices of the animals. My favorite is Steve Zahn, from Happy, Texas, as Archie, the circus Bear that is trained to live in the wild in order to meet and mate with the female bear in the woods near Doolittle's cottage. His two daughters are older, and the older one, played by a now teenage Raven Simone(remember, she was Denise's cute little stepdaughter on Cosby show?). I don't know if the other daughter was played the original actress, but Simone is recognizable still. This is good family entertainment. There are a few scenes that may be over the kids heads, but all in all, it's a cute film for those of us who can appreciate talking animals.
Rating: Summary: Terrific, funny, and complete overall, except... Review: ...THIS COULD'VE USED A PG-13 RATING. Of course this is supposec to be a comedy, but this shows several scenes of dogs urinating, bees stinging (I thought that was funny), and worst of all, A BEAR PASSING GAS IN A TOILET WITH THE RESTROOM WINDOW BARELY OPEN?! Eeeeyyuck!! I know that's goofy and all, but I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THIS TO KIDS UNDER 12. This also shows the bear falling in love with a female. Will they mate? See for yourself watching this!BTW, which would you prefer? The house in the city or in the country?
Rating: Summary: Parents - go along Review: Parents - you can go along with your kids to this movie and enjoy it. Eddie Murphy has enough charisma to carry through the whole show -- and the script and special effects are clever and keep you laughing. There is some offensive humor of the scatological variety - (I admit that during one scene I plugged my ears and averted my eyes while my 11 year old daughter howled), but it isn't overwhelming. Two critiques. The character of the bear wasn't offbeat enough to completely work. And the daughter was weak.
Rating: Summary: A definite improvement on the first. Review: If you don't already know from the other reviews, this movie probably takes place probably a few months after the prequel. Dr. Dolittle is now famous around the world-especially in the animal world. Because of his fame and gift for being able to talk to the animals, he is sought out by a forest mafia to help with saving their forest from a lumber company. Of course, Dr. D puts his lawyer wife to work on the case, which results in a deal-the forest won't be destroyed if Dr. D successfully pairs an endangered Pacific bear couple in thirty days. This turns out to be more than the doctor bargained for when the only available bachelor for the job is a circus bear by the name of Archie who can sing and dance better than he can fend for himself in the wild. In 1998, I remember seeing the first Dr. Dolittle in theaters, and I didn't like it too much. This was the reason why I was nervous about seeing this movie, thinking that it may be just as worse, but since nothing else was really out yet, I decided to see it anyway. It turned out to be the funniest movie I've seen yet this summer. ...
Rating: Summary: Enjoyable, successful sequel for all ages. Review: Earning from me about as much applause as the first movie, Dr. Dolittle 2 is not a movie you will struggle to enjoy. It is a crude, funny, warm and reasonably clever fantasy with heaps of potential and a storyline that allows the film to succeed thoroughly. Like Shrek, Dr. Dolittle 2 is not only a film for children. There is heaps of adult humour hidden in its crude, good-hearted storyline, including a Silence of the Lambs spoof and an interesting take on animal mafia. If there's anything wrong, I missed the guinea pig character from the first movie, and Lucky, the leading animal character in the first film, doesn't have nearly enough lines. But, all the new animals, friend or fiend, all provide a purpose in the movie that is well used. The human characters also provide the same amount of emotion and comedy as they did in the first time, this time it's the teen daughter of Dolittle that gets the attention, in the first movie it was really the younger daughter that got the family-angst centre. Kristen Wilson who plays the teen daughter supports the fab Eddie Murphy and has a surprise waiting in store for us at the end of the film. At times corny, at others plain fantastic, Dr. Dolittle 2 will have you smiling until the end.
Rating: Summary: Highly funny Review: This is a grate movie. It is really funny and if you have kids you need to see this movie even if you dont adults will like this movie too.
Rating: Summary: Not Great But Enjoyable Review: The movie is geared mostly to early teens but there is some humor for the adults. I'm not going to repeat comments made by earlier reviewers but will simply say that this is one of the few good movies in the past two months (I've seen most of them) if you're looking for a good "popcorn" movie. There are a lot of laughs but a lot of poor raunchy humor (includes a long sequence involving a dog and wolf marking their territory and another one with a bear leaving gas in the bathroom -- definitely not anything a mature person would laugh at). It is definitely better than the first movie, which I didn't enjoy at all. It starts slowly and poorly but picks up well around 5 minutes later. .... If you let your little kids go see it, please go with them.
Rating: Summary: Family funny Review: I love movies in which animals talk. This movie was fun from beginning to end -- especially listening to Lisa Kudrow, Norm MacDonald, and all the other recognizable voices that gave life to the numerous animals in this movie. It's one you can take your kids to and not cringe. The bathroom humor is even funny to the adults. I say go for it. We need more movies that entertain in this way. It was better than the first Dr.Doolittle with Eddie Murphy. And the young actress who played his older daughter is stunningly beautiful. We'll see more of her, surely.
Rating: Summary: Good, but not great. Review: After watching this movie, I was smiling, reciting lines, laughing at some of the more ridiculus parts, but overall, I was not terribly impressed. The premise is enjoyable, the now infamous Dr. Doolittle is recruited by a beaver who is 'blessed with many friends' to help protect their little corner of the world. The doctor, taken aback by the strip logging of the land, takes the case. How do you protect a forest? Well, you get one endangered bear to mate with another. Sounds easy? Well, the rest of the movie follows the standard fare of bumbling bear makes all the wrong moves, does something incredibly stupid (read: heroic), and gets the girl. Now for the downsides. The relationship between 'the love doctor' and his wife is ill followed, save for a few 'peeping tom' jokes. The relationship with his daughter is fleshed out a little better, but still seems to lack a certain warmth. Finally, one of the funniest animals, the ferret (or weasel as he is portraied in the film) is given little screen time. OK, so that last part isn't really a problem with the movie, but I think you understand. So, if you liked the first one, and know when to laugh in all the right places, you will enjoy Dr. Doolittle 2. If you are looking for something fresh and funny, look elsewhere.
