Summary: I thought this movie was hilarious
Review: I ended up seeing this film, on one of the movie channels on my cable. I usually don't like soft-core pornography, but this movie is more about the laughs than it is about the sex.

I think it's funny how the husband is so estatic that he has a lesbian for a wife, until he's out of the picture.

I really just thought this film was hilarious, and because it doesn't focus only on the sexual aspect I'm going to reccomend it to alot of my friends.

Summary: Great sex comedy/farce
Review: I have to say this is the funniest little comedy I have watched in years. I have seen it pop up on HBO a lot and missed it and finally rented it and enjoyed the hell out of it. I have been laughing my self sick at HBO'S MIND OF THE MARRIED MAN and think Mike Binder is the best new comic to come around since I fist saw Steve Martin in the seventies. He's got the best droll take on marriage and I'm guessing this film is the forerunner of his tv show. He's an ispired comic and as a director gets a wicked performance from Mariel Hemingway who has got great timing and is still, I have to say, awesome to look at. Steve Baldwin is in this and so is Kevin Pollack. Both very funny. Fast, silly, sexy, racy, and inspired. Rent it, buy it whatever. I think this was Binder's first movie and I predict he's going to be a guy on the level of Woody Allen one day.

Summary: Very funny.. Dont listen to these other reviews
Review: I loved this movie. Very funny stuff by both lead actor and actress. If you love "Mind of the Married Man" then you will love this! This is where HBO got the idea for "Mind of the Married Man" After all it does have Mike Binder doing this move and the show and are very similar in comedy. Many Kudos from me!

Summary: Mariel what would Grandpa say?
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this film, and admit, it caught me by surprise. Mariel Hemingway, who all but dissappeared after Star 80 was wickedly sexy in the role of the frustrated housewife-turned lesbian prowler. The premise was great. I mean, what guy doesn't fantasize about his wife making it with another woman. Well, here Baldwin gets his wish. Although it doesn't turn out the way I would have liked, the movie handles it tastefully while maintaining a certain level of sexiness. Mariel gets downright sexy in several scenes -- most notably in the kitchen when she claws her husband's hot (white hot) secretary.

After seeing this movie, let me say I would like to see the unrated version -- if it exists. Great couples viewing. Don't miss it.

Summary: A surprisingly Funny movie!
Review: I thought this was just going to be another B rated movie, But was I wrong. This turned out to be one of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time. Adult humor at it's best, and a lesson we can all learn from.

Summary: Tries Too Hard
Review: I'm sorry to have to give this one only 2 stars, since I have been waiting for years for a comedy like this one. Men have always been fascinated by (and exploiters of) lesbian culture. It always seemed to me that it would serve the schmucks of the world right, AND be hysterically funny if they tried to play out this age-old fantasy and it ended up backfiring on them the way it does in this movie. Unfortunately, the film has no subtlety and therefore its attempts to underscore the ironic humor of its premise fall short of the mark.

First of all, there's the title. What stupid idiot named it *The Sex Monster*?! I can grasp the idea that husband in the film "created a monster" when he introduced his wife to bisexuality, but my God, somebody could have done better than THAT. It makes what is supposed to be a light comedy sound like a porno flick, and it infers that if a woman is lustful and pursues what she wants, she is somehow freaky or unnatural. Or maybe the title is meant to emphasize that lesbian sex is freaky and unnatural, which undercuts the whole concept of the film.

Second of all, there's Mariel Hemingway. Normally, I love her. She looks great and tries her best to carry off the role of the bland, sweet hetero wife who hits the jackpot when she discovers women, but it doesn't quite work. She never quite makes a convincing shift, maybe because she still carries herself as bland and sweet around her husband, the major shift in consciousness that does occur when one goes through the coming out process is never apparent. The actress who played Evie Pembroke, the wife of the man Mariel's hubby hopes to have as a business partner, is much more convincing.

And now for the hubby. What a putz. I know he's written as a putz, and he does have the best lines (My fav: "You have the sexual restraint of a 52 year old senator"), but it's not convincing at *all* to me that she would "want what we have" with the little dork after he put her up to sleeping with women and then wanted her to stop because it threatens his career and he discovers he can't control her sexuality anymore.

The movie does have some good lines and some good points though, so I will not pan it completely. My favorite character is Didi, the young girl Mariel works with who becomes her first female experience. With a lovely body and a basic sweetness plus an excellent sense of self, she comes across is the most real and likeable of all the characters. I loved it when she told Mariel's hubby off, saying "You want her to be what you *think* lesbians are" Right on, girlfriend!!! There are also some moments that are truly a hoot! The ending in particular.

Still, I don't rate this one very highly. Whoever wrote it made a valiant effort, but it just doesn't work because whoever wrote it was unable to capture how powerful love between women actually is, and Mariel only barely emerges as a person in her own right.

My advice: rent it only if you have nothing else to do.

Summary: Interesting, in a bizarre sort of way
Review: If you're looking for a lot of naked shots of women and hard-core sex scenes, this is not your movie (the closest you'll get is one female topless shot in the pool, and its not of Mariel Hemingway, so forget that). Hemingway and Mike Binder both do a marvelous acting job as couples married too long. Binder, as the husband, portrays what every man thinks his fantasy is, bringing another woman into bed and getting his wife to actually like it. But then she likes it more and more, and soon feels neglected. Hemingway over-dramatizes a bit by becoming more sex-crazed and obsessed for women to the point where she ruins an important business BBQ gathering at their home, which I though was REALLY off line...no matter how attracted I was to anyone, I would at least wait until business concluded before coming on to someone...that I thought was kind of unrealistic. But the movie is all-in-all entertaining nonetheless, especially for anyone who has actually tried the threesome experience. Some of the problems that could arise from such a tryst are actually represented very well. Worth a rent, in my opinion....good to show to someone who is not hung up on the threesome idea.

Summary: GREAT LESBIAN ... FARCE
Review: Meryl Hemmingway seems just right for this role. Her scenes with Renne Humphrey (Didi) are great fun. although the lesbian scenes were hardly explicit. Renne can be seen playing a seventeen year old (she was nineteen at the time) in "Jailbait," a pretty good picture.
Mike Binder does a great job as the befuddled husband. There is a great no cuts scene with him and Meryl.
Catch the dance scene shown with the closing credits with Meryl shaking her booty.

Summary: Binder is hilarious
Review: Mike Binder and his wife Mariel Hemingway have a menage a trois and Hemingway cant get enough of them. Binder is going totally insane and thinks his wife is going to far. hilarious performance by Mike Binder...especially all those times their having a three some, he leaves the room and ends up on the couch...funny as hell..some parts are better then others but its a good comedy. other cast include Stephen Baldwin as Binders friend and Kevin Pollack as a doctor. Directed by Mike Binder

Summary: It's alive!! It's alive!!!
Review: Mike Binder directs and stars in this amusing comedy about a ordinary married man who wants to experience new things with his wife, Mariel Hemingway (Tv's L.A. Law, Bad Moon), in the sex categorie. So the 2 have a threesome (menagetrois) and soon after Binder's wife cant get enough of it and he finds out he has created a sex monster. The cast is great, especially Hemingway in a role she hasnt played before. Binder is so enjoyable you forget the stupid stuff and your just watching him bumble away which gives the movie its energy juice. Stephen Baldwin (The Usual Suspects, Spiders Web) has a supporting role as one of Binder's friends and Melissa Crider (A Boy Called Hate, Frailty) also stars as one of Hemingway's sexual partners. A guilty pleasure in some aspects. The highlights would have to be when Binder, his wife and the 3rd company are having she, so he leaves the room when he cant take the sex no more.
