Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Surprise! Review: I had never even heard about this movie until a good month after it was released and my mother in law recommended seeing it. She told me it was one of the funniest movies she has seen in a long time. Later that week I saw promotion for it on television and decided to give it a try. My husband who normally isnt into romantic comedies, laughed himself silly. It is hands down, the best movie we saw in the past year. The characters are lovable and endearing. The jokes are hilarious. The story is sweet. You get a look into Greek-American culture, something most of us know little about, and gain a new fondness for it. In short, I highly recommend this movie! I am going to buy the DVD ASAP!
Rating: Summary: A lovely comedy all can relate to Review: I am a Greek American woman and can I relate to this movie! Cannot tell you how many times I've seen this film at the movies, and when it became available for DVD/VHS release, I jumped and ordered - even ordered some as gifts - But it transcends being Greek - my Jewish, WASP, every ethnic friend I have can relate to children-parent issues (you are always a child to your parent - maybe a little longer when you're Greek haha) - It is lovely, sweet, and hilarious - It is a Cinderella story that everyone can relate to - In real life, Nia Vardalos and the Hanks connected and proved you don't need millions and millions of dollars to make a hit movie - just lots of talent and a story line that touches the heart. If there is an Ian out there, my telephone # is available! haha
Rating: Summary: We need more Greek Weddings! Review: This movie is excellent. The only time you stop laughing is when you are misting over the incredibly sentimental moments. The family theme is one that seems to be missing here in the states in general! This is a great example of what the USA is all about, the melting pot!
Rating: Summary: My big fat comedy ! Review: As a comedy "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" is supurb. It also excels as a warm human story. Everything that I have seen or participated in at a wedding, both good and bad, is chronicled in this movie. If you want to feel great you should experience "My Big Fat Greek Wedding". It's the funniest; I mean guffaw, rolling-in-the-aisles, movie that I have seen in decades. And, there's a plus - children enjoy it, too.
Rating: Summary: Family Love ! Review: I laughed so hard I cried ! Don't miss this one. It is truly a wonderful movie we can all relate to.
Rating: Summary: You've got to be kidding! Review: No plot, no character development, no humor! This has to be one of the most boing movies I've ever seen! I know I am probably the only person in America who did not think this was the greatest film ever - I did not even think it was a pretty good film! Sorry, but tired cliches and nonsensical one-liners do not a great movie make. Deadpan, monotonal delivery of pointless dialogue, one-dimesional characters - oh, I could go on and on ....
Rating: Summary: Divided Opinion Review: I have to approach this movie from 2 points of view. As a film, it's wonderful. As the subject matter goes, I found it unsettling. Leaving the theatre, I felt as if I drank too many cups of coffee and was wired. The decibel level alone was incredible, but the extreme expectations of answering to others over every aspect of your life, as Nia Vardalos's character did, was too much for me. I didn't find the overall situation something to admire. For me, her family was the flip side of the too uptight parents of the groom. Both are extreme although authentic types. I recommend seeing the film. It's a rollercoaster ride, but, oh boy, am I glad that most of the people in my life are at the level of the bride and groom.
Rating: Summary: FUNKY GREEKSPLOITATION flick (:>) Review: Yo, I grew up in the hood in Park Extension which is in Montreal Canada. My dawgz n' I love GREEKSPLOITATION flixx from Vengo, Psalti n' all those otha thugz but this flick is the illest most realistic flick which describes how Greeks gotta work hard n' push "TOAST" n' "SOUVLAKI" 4 the man,,,,go see this flick. GYRO-4-LIFE!
Rating: Summary: A LAUGH RIOT NO MATTER WHERE YOU WERE BORN Review: This film will be understood by just about any ethnic group. Being a Greek-American married to a non-Greek myself, this movie hit home big time. While the family is exaggerated in its "Greekness" for comedic purposes, they are great characters. I didn't get married until I was 28 and had my first child at 30. Up until that point I though my mother would hava a coronary trying to get me married off to any person with any Greek blood in them, but back to the film... The characters really portray the feelings/emotions/ideals I grew up with good or bad, although I don't get the Windex thing. They act like the people I grew up with, even the senile grandmother. They look like REAL people, the only one with Hollywood great looks is John Corbett. This is a really funny "feel good" movie. If I had to make any complaint it would be that Andrea Martin needed to work on her accent - I'm not sure which ethnicity she was going for.
Rating: Summary: Hilarious!!! Review: I had to be nagged severely before I had gone and seen it. I saw the title and thought well...."I'm not greek and know nothing about the culture so maybe I won't get it" Thanks to my sister I have neverbenn so happy to be nagged before......it was outright funny!! I've never laughed so much in public before......my eyes watered, my lungs heaved and wheezed between bursts of laughter the entire time. The DVD will definately be in my private collection. It should be in yours too.
