Summary: Really funny and a lot of fun
Review: This is a sweet and _very_ funny movie. It looks at the eccentricities of the Greek culture without degrading it. Anyone with over-the-top relatives can relate to it, too. Its a great one to watch with your spouse, significant other, sister, or almost anyone else. There's nothing really offensive in it, which I really appreciated. I walked out happy, and that's a wonderful thing.

Summary: Does the word "Bundt" make you laugh?
Review: As a former wedding photographer, a current Chicago resident, and a lover of greek food (I make great Spanakopita - not bad for a jewish guy), this was a wonderful film depicting the crossroads of Greek-American culture. It is definately a must-have DVD for me. And yes, whenever I hear or see the word "Bundt", I break out in a smile.

Review: This movie is not very good. It received a lot of good word of mouth for some reason but really it stunk. The stars are not appealing at all. The humor is not creative at all. Think of every movie that you see about some ethnic group and they have them all in this movie. I was actually wishing the two main stars would not fall in love because I really didn't like them or care about them. The only funny moment was Grandma sipping on a Miller Lite. Very random! Overall, though, this movie [stinks]!

Summary: Not a new romantic classic...
Review: Why this movie was such a smash hit is beyond me (as well as many others). Maybe there's an overabundance of old ladies out there. I'm sure Nia Vardalos is a funny and wonderful lady, but she uses the most obvious jokes to pick on her Greek family. Her love interest only has two different facial expressions in the movie, which is a higher number than the dimensions of every single character in this nauseating product from the estrogen-dominating Hollywood conveyor belt. After seeing this with my girlfriend, I made it up to her by renting The Philadelphia Story, Shakespeare in Love, and Say Anything... Why quality romances like these can't be monster hits is beyond us.

Summary: Real Greeks don't even like this movie
Review: I saw this movie and just about died -- not laughing, but gagging! I can't stand such mealy-mouthed pablum in the first place. I saw it en route to Hawaii for vacation. I hate such air-headed fluff, so I just wanted to warn everyone. I also read in the movie section about a week ago that this movie was being shown in Greece. The REAL Greeks don't like it much at all. Toula and her entourage of girls (real women are not total ditzes) were a bunch of flaming morons. The worst part is Toula's grandfather who keeps trying to prove throughout the movie that every name in the world had its origin in the Greek language. The Greeks interviewed for the article pointed out this obnoxious and totally pathetic behavior as one reason (of many) why they don't view Greek-Americans as Greeks anymore. I am not down on Greeks at all, either in Greece or here in America, but this film really is an exploration of the absolutely most stupid aspects of G-A pride. Incredibly obnoxious film, unless of course you watch Oprah and think you have some kind of special friendship with her, or if you think "Sleepless in Seattle" was actually a movie worth wasting money on, or you just can't get enough of Harlequin romances, Kenny G., etc. But this movie is great if you are into such things including hoaky wine tastings and rasberry colored warm-up suits, and you dream of going on a cruise or going to Branson to watch washed up "never-weres" try to immortalize themselves. The enthusiasm behind the majority of "Wedding" fans is simply an "Emperor's New Clothes" trick. It's as if people think that to remain in good standing at work or at home you have to fall for all the hyped-up claptrap advertising for this movie, and come home gushing about it how wonderful it is, when really it is just a dump. I had to rent "Dawn of the Dead" and watch it three times just to recover from this saccharin covered waste. P.S. For all you Greeks out there: I don't have anything against you or your heritage (I actually like you and your rich heritage), I just think something else (just about ANYTHING else) would have done you far more justice than this dorky movie. Don't tell me any of you were actually glad that they put out a movie full of dingbats and ridiculous stereotypes about you. I've been around the Greek community here in San Diego and they are totally cool. For a truly great Greek movie check out "Zorba," an excellent movie that views Greeks as real humans and is based on one of the finest novels of the 20th C.

Summary: Very Funny
Review: This movie will remind people of many ethnicities, of their own families. I'm Italian and the similarities made my husband howl! It's hilarious! The only movie of the same ilk that I think is better, is Monsoon Wedding (also highly recommend). This is a good date movie.

Summary: Definitely the best movie in a LONG time!
Review: Yes, I AM Greek...BUT I brought my best friends and roomates to see this movie and they could NOT stop laughing!! I don't understand all the people that say it's too overexaggerated or fake, this could be ANYONE's family and just so happens to be the SPITTING image of my family (I know...it's sad but true...). I recomend this to ANYONE! It's great!

Summary: Best Film Ever!
Review: this is the most creative and "realistic" portrait of an ethnic family. although the movie was about a Greek family, it could have easiely been a Latin, Lebanese, and/or Jewish. So very funny! - and very truthful.

Summary: A Big Fat Hit!
Review: This movie was probably the best movie that I saw in 2002. I laughed and I cried. I related to the family so well, it might have been because my best friend is Greek and I could see all her relatives in the film. But not only could I see her relatives, I could see my own family.

For anyone who has greek friends, comes from a big family or even planned a wedding you will relate to the characters and the overall craziness. I look forward to owning this movie on dvd and watching it for years to come.
