Summary: Great Story. No Funny.
Review: This movie was advertised as a very funny, falling out of your chair movie. That did not seem to be true when I saw this movie. It is a great story, and great movie, I just do not see how people find it so funny. This was a great story, about a nice young woman, who finds a man that her family will not except, yet they marry in the end anyway (hints the name My Big Fat Greek "Wedding"). So you can see this movie, expecting to enjoy it, and get up saying that was a good movie. But you probaly will not laugh that much. I do not honestly remember laughing during the film. I just think that this movie was mis-advertised, it is not a comedy, it is a romantic family film. And I am not saying it is corny, it never gets corny, for that stupid humor, it just has almost no humor. To sum it up for those who read just the end of the reveiw, It is a great movie, just do not expect to laugh.

Summary: my big fat greek wedding
Review: This movie was a big, fat waste of time. The same old, rehashed wedding comedy with no plot whatsoever. Boring as all hell.

Summary: Wonderful movie! I felt like I was looking at my life
Review: If anyone has ever married into another culture, this movie is your life! I went to see it with my husband and mother-in-law, and we laughed so hard at all the similarities his Cuban family had to the characters in the movie. It was dead on! not stereotypical!

Buy this movie!

Summary: Inner Greek Self
Review: My Inner Greek Self-which never truly leaves you-as much as you might want it to sometimes-sprung out when watching this movie-my husbands arm was sore from nudging him so much-The details, the customs-so true and exact-I had a grandmother just like that-I felt like I was watching myself! My 82 year old Greek mother who has not been to the cinena for 40 years went twice!!!! I was a little nervous about my dad seeing it-too close to home-but he loved it! What a wonderful experience! We need films like this-that heal, uplift, release, make fun of oneself!! Get one for Valentine's Day! It's a gem!

Summary: "MOOSE KA-KA" indeed
Review: I'm glad ethnic films are gaining better acceptance. Other than that, I was beyond disappointed: ZERO character development. There is ZERO basis for their shallow romantic relationship. ZERO originality. ZERO humor. I'd be offended if I were greek- everyone was a gross caricature with not one image of a normal sensible greek to contrast. Windex? Ugh.

This is afterschool tv special at BEST. on UHF.

Summary: While somewhat silly, still funny.
Review: WHile the movie exaggerates certains aspects of being Greek, the movie is not a documentary. Its a fun little piece of work that pokes a little fun at itself while keeping true to the main message of love conquers all.

I approve ;-)

Summary: This is a great movie, a FUN movie!
Review: This is a fun movie. I have read some of the other reviews and my thought, why be anal about it? I have Greek friends and they love it. It's fun, cute and I definitely recommend it. I am Italian, but I definitely see my family in it.

My advice, if you are analytical, serious all the time or on a high horse, don't rent it. If you are fun loving and enjoy little things in life, especially laughter, buy it!

Summary: Funny, Uplifting, a nice change
Review: I found the movie to be very uplifting and funny. It was a nice change to watch something with some humor in it that i'm sure lots of people can relate to in some way. It wasn't your everyday perfectly built, 100 lb. women with silicone breasts film. It must be a hit since it was in theaters for months vs. the norm 2-3 week run. If you haven't watched it yet, rent it!

Summary: The People's Choice
Review: Hands down the funniest and quite possibly the best movie of 2002. "Greek Wedding", criminally snubbed at the Academy Awards, will live on long after critically acclaimed fare such as "The Hours" and "The Pianist" are forgotten. Why? Because Nia Vardalos' brilliant screenplay and the eccentric characters are timeless. More importantly, nearly everyone who saw this family comedy could relate to it. Ironically, "Greek Wedding", a runaway box office hit, is as far removed from your typical blockbuster as you can get. No explosions, no violence, no special effects ---just a great story about a large, loud and loving family that always sticks together. The characters were wonderfully over-the-top and the laughs carried on from the opening scene through the closing credits. If there was any justice in this world, Michael Constantine as the Windex-spraying father and Vardalos, in the lead-role, would be taking home the Oscar. Timeless, hilarious and refreshingly honest, "Greek Wedding" is the most memorable movie of the year.

Summary: Wonderful, riotous flick! 1 star reviewers, LIGHTEN UP!!!
Review: MBFGW is a funny, entertaining, refreshing, and heartfelt movie to say the least! It is unique, very well-executed, and does not have that 'Hollywood taint' that makes many films seem contrived and/or overproduced. Whether you are Greek, Jewish, Spanish, Colombian, Italian, Polish, or WHATEVER ethnic backround you stem from (fill in the blank), this is a movie you can relate to, especially if your parents come from 'the old country', and have brought many of their habits, lifestyle, and thinking with them. I would venture to say that in the U.S. alone, millions fit into this category! To the previous reviewer who mentioned that this portrays Greeks in a bad way, and to those who thought this was 'kitsch', I say LIGHTEN UP and have a couple of shots of OUZO!!! The whole world LOVES this movie, so you are in the minority. Also, just like 'The Sopranos' is just a TV series meant to entertain, and is not to be confused with an accurate portrayal of all Italian-Americans, MBFGW is entertainment as well, and not MEANT to accurately portray Greek-Americans. So, get a life, and get a good argument next time! I easily give this wonderful movie 5 stars, but wish I could give it 100! The choice between widescreen and 4:3 is a welcome feature on the DVD.
