Summary: My Long, Deep Two Hour Nap
Review: Despite all the great reviews I read about this movie, it just didn't make me laugh. There were a few funny parts, but nothing worth wasting an afternoon on. The movie struck me as an ill-fated attempt to cash in on ethnic-stereotype humor that has cashed in so successfully on Italian culture based films such as "My Cousin Vinny" and Mexican/American culture clash romances such as "Fools Rush In".

Besides that, Mr. Right and Mrs. Right of the film are a little TOO right. They get along perfectly in every scene, and Mr. Right will do anything for Mrs. Right, including conversion to a religious faith that he holds no actual belief in. He proposes to her after, what...two weeks of dating, it seems.

The bride's family provides what few humorours scenes there are, but don't expect the main stars to solicit even a polite chuckle from you as you struggle to keep your increasingly heavy eyelids from inevitably sheltering your brain from further cinematic punishment.

Summary: A romantic comedy about cultural values
Review: This is an interesting spin on the comedy/romance genre. Unlike your typical 'chick-flick,' My Big Fat Greek Wedding is a story about culture clash and family values. Toula, a 30-year old, unmarried Greek woman who is somewhat ashamed of her heritage, meets and falls in love with a young American named Ian. What follows is a humorous story of their developing love and Toula's struggle to make her family understand.

So why only three stars? Well, the movie is funny, but not THAT funny. In fact, it's only mildly amusing. Aside from the Windex joke (which was very cool), there is little to laugh at in this movie. And, as far as the love story goes, there is hardly any chemistry between Toula and Ian. In fact, the love story is horribly underdeveloped.

Lots of people think this movie is downright hilarious, so it's worth your time to check it out. I wasn't particularly impressed, but then again I'm not a big fan of romantic comedies anyway. Either way, it's worth watching at least once.

Summary: Good DVD, but could have been great
Review: Let me start off by saying that this DVD looks great in progressive scan on a widescreen HDTV monitor. Kudos also goes out to the producers of this DVD for including both pan and scan and widescreen on a single DVD. Now don't get me wrong...I would never watch a movie in pan and scan unless there is no other option. The reason I appreciate having both on one DVD is due to the fact that Blockbuster will only carry pan and scan when it is available. This is the only way to get Blockbuster to offer widescreen. Okay, enough of my evils of Blockbuster vent on to the DVD. This is a really cute light hearted romantic comedy. It is better done than most, but it isn't the best either. Add the whole ugly duckling turning into a beautiful swan and you have cliché after cliché. Even with all of its' predictability I found this movie completely enjoyable. The dialog is smart and the characters are endearing. The hyperbole of the meddling family is always good for a few chuckles. In the end I felt satisfied with the experience and have even gone back for multiple viewings.

As far as the extra features go this DVD is pretty Spartan. Aside from the token cast bios there is a commentary. The included commentary is informative and entertaining in its' own right. I like commentaries that include the actors as well as the directors. It gives a more down to earth understanding of the film that is usually missed with a solo director commentary. That is it for the special features...not even a trailer!!! Perhaps they did not know how big this movie would become and never shot any of the extra behind the scenes footage, but it was still missed.

Summary: Big Disappointment
Review: I was looking forward to watching this movie--but turned it off after about 30 minutes. Pure TV sitcom schlock--not a believable character in the show. And what was with the fright wig on Tula in the beginning?

Summary: My Big Fat Ethnic Stereotype Movie
Review: Incredibly dumb. It plays all the same "humor" notes you would expect from a film like this, and almost none of them are actually funny. Not nearly funny enough. An incomplete script. Missing true conflict in favor of feel-good over-the-top camaraderie and tired jokes from twenty other similar films. Way too obvious. It's "My Big Fat [enter particular ethnicity here] Tank Corps Rolls Over All Those Not Lucky Enough To Be Us." The whites are like pieces of windblown paper (they're "toast people" in the picture). The groom, John Corbett, is just a foil for the juggernaut of Greek vitality and the pushy rightness of all swarthy people over the wimpy, culture-challenged unswarthy. It's not just that the Greeks are ridiculous stereotypes, that's how these kinds of movies work. It's the casting of the whites as these cold, dumfounded, inferior people with no "ethnicity." If you really look at this thing clearly, it's creepy and racist.

Summary: MY BIG FAT DISAPPOINMENT
Review: I bought this movie based on all the hype and was truly disappointed. A couple of funny moments but certainly not enough to carry this movie.

I always enjoy Michael Constantine and Lainie Kazan and Andrea Thomas but again their comedics not enought to carry this movie. Should have been on tv as a movie of the week.

If you want to buy it, get it used.

Summary: The chick flick for guys
Review: Simply put, this was a chick flick that I was dragged into seeing. But, coming from an Italian background, I think we can be friendly to the Greeks because we're very similar and probably get along real well. Also for its resources, it's one've the best movies I've ever seen. This movie was truly hilarious!

Summary: Great Movie
Review: Have to ber honest, actually saw the movie last Saturday in the Theater. Though not being Greek, I know many who are, and having been brought up and lived in areas with a large Greek population (which means lots of good places to eat, drink, and be maerry) this is really a fun movie. Nia does a good job, and am looking forward to seeing the TV series, with many of the same people.

If you haven't seen this movie yet, you'll have to if you want to see the TV show. Then you'll get it.

Summary: Great!
Review: What can I say, that hasn't already been said about this wonderful movie? My Big Fat Greek Wedding is funny, simplistic and satisfying. This film is testament to the fact that good movies don't need sex or violence to be entertaining. Everyday life and everyday people are funny enough to create a blockbuster. Luckily, I own this DVD and can watch this movie anytime I like.
