Summary: The little film that could
Review: My Big Fat Greek Wedding was just a little specialty house film. No one producing or distrubuting the film thought that it would have wide appeal. 26 weeks after it's release, it was the number one film in America. Why? Word of mouth. People loved the film. Not the critics. Not big studio hype. Sure, it gained a lot of hype finally because it wasn't what the critics expected - a cute little film that people were flocking to see.

So, why should you get this movie? Not because of the hype. You should get it because it's a cute little film that would make you laugh. The reviewers here that haven't liked the film were expecting something else. As for myself, I haven't laughed this much at a film since Victor Victoria (what? 20 years?). It's not Moonstruck (which I hated) but it is a cute, endearing little film.

Summary: VERY Good
Review: I thoguht the movie was very good. It wasn't rolling on the floor laughing but it had some very funny parts to it. The characters were easy to relate to and they seemed very real as opposed to the usual Hollywood "fakeness". Overall, this movie is for anyone who wants to see a cute movie and wants a bunch of good laughs.

Summary: If you ain't Greek...no worries...
Review: Even if you don't come from a Greek (or European) family...you will identify with these people!
This film is the best "feel good" flick ever. For me, it was personally touching because I did see my Grandfather portrayed in the the father's character. Everything really does come from a connection to the Greeks!
And...I will never be able to look my father in the eye, with a straight face, when he picks up his bottle of Windex.

Summary: Funny, but not the best movie ever
Review: I thought this was a good film, with good jokes. The lack of sex, violence, and extreme cursing was a great relief. It was an overall good family oriented film with loads of laughs.

Summary: Appealing and it works...
Review: This film deals with Greek culture without being too conscious about it. By making it into a comedy, many things can be let loose and taken less seriously. Nia Vardalos and the cast do beautiful work. It's a film where you remember the characters and mood more than the film stars.

Summary: Fun but uninteresting
Review: I looked forward to this movie because of all the word of mouth from people who loved it, but came away disappointed. As someone who has struggled with the clash of cultures I found the movie to be very whitebread.

The fiancee has no spine, personality, or interests and is simply absorbed by the big, fat, Greek family without a struggle. It had all the drama of a cow eating grass.

It is a shame. The movie made some nice points about not letting your background control your future but letting it be a part of your future. If they had explored these ideas further the movie would have been funny and interesting.

Summary: ddubuc
Review: This is the best movie I've seen in years. Thankfully, it does not fall into typical Hollywood formulas. It's humor is dry, like Senifeld, not a series of one liners. Although its characters are extreme, humor is sometimes subtle. The whole family can enjoy this one, especially if you have a rich heritage and sense of culture. My children never got to meet all my grandparents, aunts, and uncles who came here with thick accents and little education to work in the mills. But seeing this movie helps bring to life a part of family culture that too often is downplayed, instead of celebrated, in our lives.

Summary: Don't laugh yourself to death
Review: This film is the perfect adventure in experimenting all kinds of laughter, from an ephete smile to an uproarious bursting-out explosion. Every single detail is supposed to made you laugh, and you better do it if you do not want to be righteously considered as a party pooper. The film is hilarious and that is its only real quality. After a while though, you start wondering what your are laughing at? The melting pot that is working upside down, to the benefit and profit of the Greek immigrants? The salad bowl which is all mixed up and confused since good American people have to integrate the Greek culture and religion just for one son to get married to one Greek daughter? Or just maybe to ourselves who are always thinking, reacting and acting within the narrow guidelines of our one-way cultural vision? But who cares since it is funny and we laugh. But don't choke on the bones if, being a vegetarian, you are suggested to drop meat and start eating mutton. That is Greek humor indeed, maybe with a touch or Turkish recollection behind.

Summary: Very Funny and So True to Life
Review: Every time I watch this movie, it gets better. Toula has aspects of all us girls who wonder will we find the right man, what will we do with our lives, can I get my mom off my back about grandchildren. It makes us all hope that we can better our live like Toula and accept our family for the crazies that they are.

My mom mentioned to me that she felt like this movie was similar to her life growing up in an Italian neighborhood, with all her cousins and family. Even though it's a cheesy thought, it made me appreciate this movie even more.

Summary: Hilarious!
Review: I haven't laughed that hard in a very long time. I'm a mother who watched it late one night with my 18 yr. old daughter, my 17 yr. old niece and their 17 yr. old girl friend. The four of us laughed, hollered, wiped tears from our eyes, and were exhausted by the end of this funny movie. At times we clapped and cheered when the characters uttered truths that we related to, such as; "he may be the head of the family, but I'm the neck and I can turn that head....." We took it as a funny joke, not some male bashing attitude. It was a great movie, unlike any I've seen in ages.
