Summary: GREAT SLEEPER COMEDY!
Review: It was hilarious and romantic, not as lively as the new sitcom,
My Big Fat Greek Life. The movie has big fat laughs and a lot
more. If you didn't already, see it!! And watch the sitcom
My Big Fat Greek Life, Sundays at 8/7 central on CBS!

Summary: A nice old-fashioned comedy
Review: This is a really nice little movie. The humor is quite real and anyone of Eastern European heritage will especially be able to relate to it. The film moves along nicely, and the humor isn't forced. It's a great date movie, but also the kind of film that people of all ages would enjoy.

Summary: Almost-- but not quite-- as good as Real Women Have Curves.
Review: My Big Fat Greek Wedding (Joel Zwick, 2002)

So I finally got around to seeing My Big Fat Greek Wedding. And, as the last American on the planet who hadn't seen it yet, is anyone really going to want to read the hundred seventy-eight-millionth review of this movie? I'll keep it short.

Veteran TV director Joel Zwick (whose only other big-screen attempt was the pathetically awful Second Sight in 1989) hits one way, way out of the ballpark here. My Big Fat Greek Wedding is (as the neverending TV ads tell you) the number one romantic comedy of all time, by gross ticket sales. I mean, the thing almost cleared a million in Argentina, of all places. A quarter billion and counting, in America (and that's not including VHS/DVD sales and rentals). And for once, the public seems to have gotten it right' but not that right.

Yes, the movie is laugh-out-loud funny. Yes, much of it rings true. But if you've ever seen Second Sight (and I cannot stress how horrifically bad that movie is), you'll see traces of Zwick everywhere. The movie just boils over a few times too often. There are a couple too many obvious panderings to its audience (whose brilliant idea was it to cast Joey Fatone? Please'). While they don't take away form the movie as a whole, given when I saw it, I couldn't help but compare it to Real Women Have Curves, with which it shares the main subtext of the immigrant family fitting into American life. And in every case, the latter film comes out on top. Everywhere Real Women Have Curves is dignified and restrained (please, no girdle jokes from the peanut gallery), My Big Fat Greek Wedding is' well, not. There's too much that says 'we're trying to manipulate you;' not in the script, but in the direction. And thus it ranks a cut below Real Women Have Curves, but not enough to knock it out of 2002's top ten list. *** ½

Summary: Any woman who is not Anglo-Saxon will relate!
Review: The opening of this movie had me hooked. Any woman from Middle-Eastern, Italian, and Greek backgrounds will appreciate this movie. I love the line, "I was a swarthy six-year-old with sideburns." LOL...I've been there.

Nia Vardalos is not your typical Hollywood actress. She is pretty in a unique, ethnic sort of way. She is funny, down-to-Earth, and really brings heart to her character. The supporting cast is phenomenal...I laughed through the whole thing!

This movie is fantastic. I saw it in the theater and now I own it. It's funny, warm, touching, and very human. I highly recommend it.

Summary: A Big Fat Success!
Review: This movie teaches all of us that we should not be based on how we look on the outside but who we are on the inside. Toula is a single 30 year old Greek woman who is told that she better get married because she is begginning to look old. Toula has a makeover and then meets the man of her dreams. Although many people think this is a "chick flick" many men (and children!) will enjoy this comedy. If you enjoy this movie then you should see the TV show "My Big Fat Greek Life" on CBS.

Summary: Big Fat Zero
Review: This movie, with its racist undertones and social stereotyping is one big fat zero. As for comedy, I and my two friends watching didn't laugh once. How this movie can be described as charming is beyond me. Saddam Hussain has more charm for chrissakes!!
The humour is so predictable, the characters so wafer thin, and the plot is non existent.
Don't waste your money on this, go spend it on Muriel's wedding instead.

Summary: You Know, the word Blockbuster comes from a Greek word!
Review: What a great film about family and love. I especially like Gus, and can do a killer impersonation of his voice. My family went to this film shortly before it left theaters because of all the hype, and because we liked John Corbett in 'Northern Exposure'. I recommend the movie to anyone, but the TV show can flop for all I care. It stinks!

Summary: Would have been a good 'Movie of the Week'
Review: I was expecting so much out of this movie. All the reviews were just phenomenal. And, the coming attractions were just 'laugh out loud!' It was so hilarious to see Toula (Nia Vardalos) fall to the floor because of her headset; I knew I had to have this movie! Well, I saw it, and I must say, that coming attraction was one of the only funny parts of the entire film. I can't see how this was such a major box office attraction (I know; I hated American Beauty too). Toula's interfering family really got on my nerves! Imagine being in your late 30's and having your father not allow you to date a non-Greek. Although entertaining, this is the type of film one views as a movie of the week or perhaps something like The Family Channel (something made specifically for television). The movie was fairly enjoyable although the person watching it with me fell sound asleep. I just wish that I had not bought this DVD--here is a suggestion: RENT!

Summary: My Big Fat Movie Review
Review: I'm not sure if I'm more enthralled by Greek Wedding, or terrified by it. Being engaged, this movie (along with Meet the Parents) was probably not the best film to watch. However, watch it I did, and I was not disappointed by it. There was humor in abundance, and each character is well developed. I actually wound up empathizing with many of the characters as my fiancé and I more or less resemble to two families. It's a great film for anyone in the last stages of planning a wedding or recently married, or long since married, or even just looking for a good laugh. I'm not a real fan of romantic comedies, but I was able to sit through this one without squirming too much. It's worth at least a rent. As for the DVD itself, there is little value to special features, mostly because there aren't many available. If special features aren't a big deal to you, you can get the VHS version.

Summary: Great flick...
Review: I really enjoyed this movie. I love the father. "Put windex on it!" That is my favorite expression now. Nia uses great facial expressions. I let my mother-in-law borrow my copy of the dvd and she and her friends loved it too. It's a feel good movie.
