Summary: You'll love it!
Review: When I saw this movie in the theater, I almost peed my pants because of laughing so hard! Beyond all the humor comes a serious side to the movie. This is one of the most unique comedies I've seen. Nia Vardolos needs to write more screenplays. I especially liked the portrayal of the bunt cake. If you watch it, you'll see what I'm talking about (can't give too much away). There are many other scenes like it so you'll probably have your own that stick out as much as the bunt cake with me. If anyone pees their pants from laughing so hard, don't be afraid to write it in your own review. I'm sure it'll be a big help.

Summary: Big Fat Greek Hype
Review: I liked this movie but it wasn't as great as the media and public made it out to be. I enjoyed the film and thought the story was cute but it could have been a little better plot.

Summary: Opa!!!
Review: The film is funny and great, but you are much better off buying the VHS because the quality is the same, and the DVD has no special features worth seeing, so skip the DVD, but get the VHS!

Summary: Feel-Good Fun!
Review: A pleasurable comedy that even succeeds in pulling at your heart-strings every so often. For those of you who only saw the pathetically unfunny TV spin-off series, you will be pleasantly surprised by this lovely movie!

Summary: EXCELLENT
Review: If you want entertainment at its best, you just have to sit
down and watch this movie. I laughed myself silly over it, perhaps it is because it reminds me so much of my own family,
I'm not sure!
The characters are great, each personality is played out to perfection in this chuckle a minute drama and the best part is, it has a happy ending! How much more could you want in a movie?
This one is a winner!

Summary: One of those you'll come back to regularly
Review: This is one of those movies about real people who actually solve problems without car chases and diving off buildings. Characters even manage to disagree without a single punch being thrown. These are nice people you can like, with real problems and real solutions -- and very funny situations.

Can't say which movie some of the reviewers watched, but the only thing approaching a cliche about this movie is that young people often consider their parents a great burden, and part of coming of age is learning to accept your own family background. Objecting to that is a little like objecting to Romeo and Juliet because it's just another boy and girl in love.

Having lived in Greece a lot, I did not find anything surprising about the Greek customs or behavior. Funny as all get out, but not surprising. There is the usual hyperbole of a comedy, but it is a comedy, not a documentary. And a very funny comedy for us. We've seen it twice and I just ordered the DVD because we expect to keep seeing it again for an entertaining evening now and then.

Summary: Great On So Many Levels
Review: This movie was one of the best I have seen in a long, long time. It was not only hilarious and kept me laughing throughout, but it was romantic and unpredictible. It really showed how important family is, while keeping it light-hearted and funny. My only complaint is that the DVD did not have many extras. Although the fact that "Greek" subtitles are included was very funny, but that and a scene selection was about all that was included and I am very dissapointed because I would loved to have seen some bloopers!! Overall, though, the movie was fantastic and everyone who wants a movie that isn't overly sexy and that is hilarious and wholesome should definetly check this out!!

Summary: A classic.
Review: This is by far my favorite comedy. It has an excellent mix of pseudo-slapstick wackiness with genuine wit. It depicts the age old issue of culture clash with an unrivaled finesse. This film displays some of the most well-crafted writing in this genre. Possibly because it was based on actual events, which also seems to make the film better. I have even been inspired to study Greek culture and language thanks to this movie. It is simply a masterpiece. Though not a serious movie, it has heart and will provide endless laughs for all the family. Nia Vardalos should definitely continue writing about her zany family because it certainly makes for the best stories I have ever heard.

Summary: My Big Fat Italian Review
Review: This movie has gone full circle. It started out as a small low profile movie that was never expected to be a blockbuster.

It didn't have a complicated plot or any earth shattering twists or surprises. Like a typical Sienfeld episode, what made it work was the simple fact that it was chock full of little observations and characters which everyone can relate to.

It's about a wedding between a Greek family to a Non-Greek family. The reason it works so well is that this film could be called "My Big Fat [INSERT ETHNIC GROUP HERE] Wedding". I'm Italian and I watched it with a Jewish woman... yet we both saw people we could relate to in the film. The charcacters, although distinctly Greek, are perfect examples of the universal spirit of ethnicity as it exists in our wonderful melting pot.

Everyone can find at least a few characters they can directly say "He's just like my Uncle Bob!"... or "She's just like my Aunt Mary!". When you mix in the non-ethnic family that marries into the Greek family, you pretty much cover everyone.

Don't look for a complicated story. Just enjoy the characters and see who you can spot from your own family (regardless of your ethnicity).
