Summary: Would you want to to go to your high school reunion?
Review: Personally, there's no way that you'd catch me at mine, but I think it's more of an American thing to have reunions anyway. We have proms though, so who knows? I love this movie though, it's great to watch and relax to.

Lisa Kudrow plays ditzy Phoebe, without the hippy-ish clothes. And Mira Sorvino seems to have blonde hair, with a brown thick streak through her fringer for no apparent reason. The brilliant Alan Cumming (Sandy Frink) and Janeane Garofalo (Heather Mooney) also have show stealing roles. You have your sterotypical roles in this: the outcasts, the popular and pretty girls, the football player, the 'nerd', and the anti-social one.

With corny dance sequences, and flashback scenes to Romy & Michele's high school days, this film is one of the best high school movies thre is. About every possible cliche you can imagine happens at the reunion, but there's a happy ending. Which is always good. There's no extras on this DVD, so don't expect any.

Summary: Hilariously funny
Review: Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow are Romy and Michelle, two ditzy blonde friends who live together in LA. When Romy runs into a high school classmate (Jeanne Garofalo, at her finest) the two women decide to attend their tenth high school reunion. Michelle and Romy decide to fabricate lives for themselves- successful careers, boyfriends, etc., to impress the people they went to high school with.

Using "like" after "like every "like" word "like," the two drive a Jaguar from LA to Arizona, reliving memories from the past- including old crushes and avoiding the "A" crowd of popular girls. While at the reunion, a lot of things (some of them improbable, to be sure) occur.

Although not of the highest calibre, this movie is extraordinarily funny, light comedy. It reminds us of what was good (or bad) about our high school years, while making us laugh at the same time about the foibles of the past.

Summary: SO FUNNY!
Review: I know a lot of people find this movie annoying, but I think it's just great. For me, this is the kind of movie you can watch all the time and not get sick of it. Romy and Michelle are just so much fun, you have to be pulling for them the whole movie. Lisa Kudrow has mastered the "dumb blonde" character, and it shows in this movie. A must see!

Who really invented Post-Its? ( Romy or Michelle ? )

A major reexamination of the Sagebrush High School in Tuscon,AZ backed by the specter of Vladimir Nabokov as cinematic gamesman. With this movie Director David Mirkin systematically shows that behind his ironic manipulation of narrative and his puzzle-like treatment of bold fashion detail there lies an aesthetic rooted in his intuition of a transcendent realm of High School and in his consequent redefinition of nature and artifice as synonyms.

Beginning with her Versace job interviews, Michele ( Lisa Kudrow )finds her world view centered on the experience of epiphany--characterized by a sudden fusion of varied sensory data and memories, a feeling of timelessness, and an intuition of immortality--which grants the true artist, Romy , intimations of an otherworld.

Readings of the Tuscon Sagebrush High School summer reading syllabus of 1987 reveal this epiphanic experience to be a touchstone for the characters' metaphysical insightfulness, moral makeup, and aesthetic sensibility, and to be a structural model for how the narratives themselves are fashioned and for the nature of the viewer's involvement with the reunion drama.

In his conclusion, Mirkin outlines several of his possible intellectual and artistic debts to the brilliant and variegated culture that flourished in Russia on the eve of the Revolution. Romy & Michele emerge as less alienated from High School culture than most of our emigre viewers choose to believe, and as less modernist than many of our Western viewers still imagine. The Soundtrack is brilliant, missing perhaps only the Dead Kennedys.
At a New Year's Eve Dinner at the Sound of Music Ski Lodge north of Montpelier,VT, I embarrassed my wife Diane by regaling Paul Sorvino, his daughter Mia Sorvino and Quentin Tarrantino at dinner with jokes which Cassius Clay used to tell Howard Cosell in '63. ) My daughter,Laurel, is ecstatic that I met Mia Sorvino.Lisa Kudrow recently finished the last season on Friends.

Summary: The Power of Female Friendship
Review: This movie does something very rare for Hollywood - it values a great friendship above Finding a Man. It also offers psychedelic dance-floor outfits, a goofy touch of magical-realism, and the chance to triumph over your old high school enemies. What more could you want? Trashy fun with a heart of gold.
