Summary: OSCAR-caliber MOVIE. MUST SEE.
Review: Hi: This movie is perfect. There no special effects or stunning visuals, yet it penetrates you and keeps you. It is a shame that this movie did not get wider audience due to the current American distrubution system.

Summary: Deadpan Original
Review: HA HA HA this movie makes me laugh and squirm. It's flawless. Dawn Weiner is such a geek you have to root for her even though she never wins. I remember every line, rant, and insult in this movie. It's definitely one of my favorites.

It's nice to see honest, realistic movies like this in the midst of airhead teen flicks like "Drive Me Crazy" and "varsity Blues".

Summary: JUNIOR HIGH....OR HELL?
Review: When I first saw Welcome To The Dollhouse, I laughed it off as one of those weird-ending movies. Still, it stook in my mind, and so, I bought the movie, and now all my friends are hooked 2! It portrays the struggles that Dawn goes through while trying to find out who she is at this junction in her life. Treated with open hostility from her family, and lothed in school, Dawn doesn't seem to fit in anywhere...So, when the school bully proposes to "rape" her, she goes, most probably looking for a way to be wanted. This movie touches the heart of everyone who watches it. The love Dawn longs to recieve, and the struggles she goes through while trying to survive her jr high years. If you haven't seen this movie, then go see it.

Summary: A Comedy-Drama for everyone.
Review: This movie is one of my favorite movies. Though much vulgar language and sexual orientated content this movie tells what it's like to be the middle child of a family. Go get it!

Summary: The hell of Junior High
Review: I don't know about you, but I can't drive by the video store without thinking about which video I want to rent next. Recently I rented "Welcome to the Dollhouse", a thoroughly fresh take on adolescent geekdom. The low-budget, independent feature, written and directed by Todd Solondz, drew major attention after winning the top prize at the 1996 Sundance Film Festival.

The plot revolves around the spectacularly unpopular Dawn Wiener (well played by 12-year-old Heather Matarazzo). Known around Benjamin Franklin Junior High as "Wiener Dog", Dawn is shunned and tormented throughout the film. If popularity were a ladder, Dawn would be near the botton rung. She's not even popular in her own family, her irritatingly cute kid sister grabbing all the attention. I really liked the way the film showed there are those who are even lower on the pecking order and how Dawn, herself, is not above lobbing insults.

"Welcome to the Dollhouse" doesn't pretent to be absolutely realistic. Some scenes are over-the-top. But the movie is universally appealing, I believe, touching memories that are shared by many of us.

I read where New Yorker magazine described the film as "Hateful". I disagree and would describe the movie as a comedy, but a sad and brutal one.

Summary: A Must-See!
Review: Welcome to the Dollhouse is one of those rare movies that speaks the truth about what school is like for teens today. Heather Matarazzo does a spectacular job playing Dawn "Weinerdog" Weiner, the school outcast. Although this film is classified as a dark comedy, and it is funny, but it's sad as well. The torment Dawn gets put through from her peers and the neglect she gets from her family is quite sad. There's even a line where she asks a student 'why do you hate me' and he answers 'because you're ugly.' It's sad to see her have to go through stuff like that, but it's exactly what it's like for junior high-ers. Anyone who survived junior high must see this movie!

Summary: An Excellent movie
Review: Welcome to the Dollhouse, is such a fantastic movie because of the way the director displayed it. Many teenagers feel awful about going to school, everyday just hoping that nothing bad will happen and that you will become popular, as too Don Wiener. It seems that everyone has a good life except for Don, or should we say 'Weiner Dog' Don's Nickname. She is the middle child, with an older brother in a band and a 'brown-noiser' in school, and with a little sister so cute and adorable it makes you want to puke. Don's parents alway's ignor her, she is always in trouble and nobody seems to care. Don goes to school everyday being harrased by one girl who calls her a lesbien, and other boys who throw spitballs. Everything is wrong in Dons life, nothing will ever change, she seems to think. Her life is going down hill, one boy named Branden in her class tells her he is going to rape her. Brandon is the tippical low graded, smoking, swearing punk kid who is also going through hard times in his life. Then when don gets a crush on a highschooler in her brothers band, everything goes crazzy, especially when her mother tells her to rip down her favorite thing in the world, her 'club house'. Everything does get set better in the end, but it leaves you with a shock of an ending. I liked this movie and would watch it a million times.

Summary: Poor Weiner Dog!
Review: This movie is a hilarious look at the tormented life of Dawn Weiner. She is harassed by her classmates, ignored at home (she runs away and her family doesn't even notice she is gone) and she is only in junior high. Heather Matarazzo plays the clueless and bullied Dawn to perfection and that was not an easy task considering how unattractive they made her look with the clothes and the hair. Kids are very mean and this is a very funny look at kids at their meanist--JUNIOR HIGH.

Summary: funny, Funny, FUNNY!
Review: This movie was funny, me and my friends rented it about a year ago and we laughed all night while we watched it and we still talk about this movie. You have to see it!

Summary: Jan Brady Lives
Review: First off, whoever thinks this is "the worst movie ever" should stick with Hollywood cookie-cutter comedies....maybe you'll "get" those.

Anyway, this IS a comedy, believe it or not. You might not be laughing all the way through, but I'll bet you'll at least have a smile...and maybe you will laugh all the way through the second time you see it.

Heather does an EXCELLENT job here in portraying Dawn Weiner, and the other cast-mates also turn in fine performances...but enough about the actual movie content...

This DVD is double-sided, one side being full-screen, the other being widescreen (letterbox). There are brief bios of the director, and the two actors playing Dawn Weiner and Brandon, the boy that initially torments her. Also included is the movie trailer.

If you like this film, you might be interested in Todd Solondz later efforts, "Happiness" and "Storytelling".
