Summary: Just fun
Review: 90 minutes of Entertainment. The story is so-so - but still it's fun to watch. Billy Crystal is one of my favorites anyhow, therefore the 5 stars.

Summary: Billy Crystal vehicle gives you a full dose of Crystal
Review: A fish out of water comedy that makes more than the usual overtures towards character development, this movie depicts Billy Crystal and his two friends embarking on a real western cattle drive as tourist/participants as they attempt to shake off the emotional drawbacks of hitting middle age. Things go awry when the trail leader dies and a couple of the hired hands turn out to be thieves, absconding in bad circumstances and leaving the tourists to run the cattle by themselves. There are a lot of feel-good moments, and Billy Crystal gets plenty of time to do his schtick, which is good to the extent that you enjoy his schtick.

Review: A funny revelation came to me on my way to the corral: City Slickers is a movie for screenwriters and everyone who wants men to reveal their true feelings. Screenwriters should love it because it is a story with such a clear mythic structure. Every moment out of Campell's / Jungs hero-journey is there: a Call to Adventure, a Refusal of the Call, Tests, Allies, Enemies, a Supreme Ordeal, returning home with an elixier....only all of this is executed with so much fun and style, you'll never know what hit you. Writers Lowell Ganz & Babaloo Mandel are gods, masters at their craft. Dismiss their stuff as mere comedy and you'll regret missing the best they have to offer.
I love that this film is a perfect hero's quest, and a modern adventure story, and sure enough, it resonated with a lot of people.

Which brings me to another observation: whenever I've screened the movie for male friends, they opened up and shared. It seems that the (stunningly eloquent and beautifully written) "What's-the-worst -day-of-your-life/What's-the-best-day-of-your-life"-scene does it: it gives men courage to confide their fears, reveal their wounds, share life-stories. Simply because of that, the movie has been a gift (and a recommendation to every lady who'd like to get her beau to utter more than a grunt when it comes to the personal stuff).

Did I mention that Daniel Stern is completely underrated as Phil ? That Bruno Kirby has the best line in the Best-Day/Worst-Day-scene ? That Ron Underwoods direction is flawless (just as in "Tremors" ) ? In a year where "American Pie 2" seems to be the high watermark for comedy, "City Slickers" is better than ever. Because Hollywood doesn't seem to make many movies that touch you enough to open your heart these days.

Summary: Engaging, funny and poignant
Review: A sweet warm-hearted movie. Three middle-aged urbanites take their mid-life crises to the great outdoors. Billy Crystal, Daniel Stern and Bruno Kirby play the three thirtysomethings who take a cattle drive vacation. Jack Palance plays the tough-as- leather trail boss, Curly. The movie deftly mixes humor and drama. This is my favorite Billy Crystal performance. One of the nice things about this movie is how down-to-earth most of it is. Watching this, I could relate to the characters in that everyone has problems and everyone has insecurities and moments of depression and lack of direction. But moments pass and problems are dealt with. Not necessarily resolved but dealt witth Very clever, very funny, and very sweet. City Slickers strikes just the right note.

Summary: One of the Best
Review: A very moving film, so much so that it's hard to simply define it as a comedy. In a way, it makes me think of "Stand By Me." In the same manner that the boys are off, hiking down the tracks, looking for the body but also for themselves, the guys in "City Slickers" are looking for something hard to find. They are all really looking for Mitch's smile and find, again, why they are such great friends. I always feel so much better about myself after watching this film.

Summary: DON'T MISS A CHANCE TO SEE THIS DELIGHTFUL FILM
Review: Another one of those infectious movies that you can view 100 times and never tire of! Bet you can't watch it...once! You'll come away with at least 5 "Crystalisms"...Hellooo...Fact is that there are profound messages that will stay with you wrapped up in all of this hilarity.

Curly's(Jack Palance)vivid picture of the sun shining through the dress of the woman he has loved all of his life, yet never approached...Bruno Kirby's "best day" and "worst day" monologue...and Billy Crystal's advice to a friend whose life has been recently shattered... "Your life is a do over..." referring to when they were kids and a ball would get hung up in a tree...go for it it's another chance...a do over.

That will be you plagiarizing the line..."Cow's today!" the next time your child crosses a social boundry! Stop me, somebody....stop me...I could go on and quote the entire script..."Woof...woof"!

A buddy film ...with a simple story line...dealing with midlife crisis and it's cure...that will put a smile on your face from the first frame to the last. Keep one on the shelf for emergency loss of joy therapy!

Summary: Male Bonding and Cows have Never Been Funnier!
Review: Basically a comedy about midlife crisis. But it violently changes direction near the end and becomes a poignant soul-searching journey for everyone involved. The reason it works so well is because of the very funny cast, Billy Crystal, Bruno Kirby and Daniel Stern are all very funny in their parts. And Jack Palance steals every scene he's in, to bad he hangs around only for a short while. It has very funny moments, sometimes touching and even poignant near the end, and it's one of the few movies that have a real-life calf being born just for the film. You get the feeling 'City Slickers' tries to be more than just a comedy, and it deserves merit for that. A lot of fun. From a scale of 1-10 I give this film a 7!

Summary: Above average comedy.
Review: Billy Crystal is looking marvelous in the amusing comedy that is fun to watch. I actually like the sequel just slightly better than the original. Billy crystal is charming and funny and Jack Palance is great.

Summary: This is a ("Sally") Boot Camp with both laughs and tears!
Review: Billy Crystal is the leader of 3 city-wise middle class guys, trying to "find themselves" while joining a cattle-drive away from all the conveniences and the hectic routines they had at home. The grizzled "boss", Jack Palance has no sympathy for all of their "city-sissy-weaknesses" and gives the trio their money's worth. -- This film is very funny, but there's also a serious message: Life is Beautiful! Don't waste a single day without realizing that there is beauty in everything we do. Jack Palance was in top shape not only while filming "City Slickers", but also during his Oscar acceptance speech (lol!)
