Summary: Scripting planner?
Review: I will first off say I did enjoy the movie; I am used to switching my brain off when watching certain types of films; but for this one I had to go three notches lower than I knew existed.
The main plot of the movie is fine, pristine; the sub-plot is what throws the whole thing off kilter. The sub-plot adds nothing to the story, and destroys the main character. While functioning in the sub-plot the main character personality becomes homely and stupid, in the main plot she is aggressive and controlling. It appears to be two characters and two stories combined without regard to their contradictions. In places it is actually so bad, the movie is forced to cut to another scene before the actors stop and stare into the camera.
It's witty and somewhat funny but not much more.

Summary: Not Bad, but Not Great either
Review: Unlike Maid in Manhattan, which was a rather pleasant surprise, The Wedding Planner was a bit of a disappointment.
In short, the acting is pretty good (but nothing great), the plot is average, while the humor and the dialogues are below average.
The characters are weak, bland and just plain uninteresting.
Moreover, it seems as though the chemistry between Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey is not all that great. To that, one has to add the poor dialogues and the bad choice of lines that the actors are given. To make things worse, the "Italian" guy was anything but Italian; it was pretty obvious that it was an American doing a very poor job of impersonating an Italian.
Though the potential for a great movie was definitely there it fails to take off.
A shame really...
In a nutshell, it's probably not a movie you would want to add to your collection, but it will provide for an evening's entertainment, and that's about it.
No masterpiece here...

Summary: Good Movie
Review: This was one of Jennifer Lopez's better movies. She was extremly funny with Matthew McConaughey and was very witty. I never thought of her as a good actress, but in this movie I thought that she played her character well. There was so many funny and awkward scenes that made me laugh. Some people may think that this movie was bad, but it was actually a great movie. It may not be my all time favorite movie but it was, but it is a good "chick flick" and a good movie to watch for a rainy day.

Summary: Funny film!
Review: I just saw this movie on DVD after almost 4 years of trying. It is so funny in most parts. Jennifer Lopez did probably more than a dozen movies during this time and this is a good venture into comedy. She is so funny on most of the scenes as she's trying to defend her wedding planner job. It's kind of sketchy later on as she can't decide if she wants to go with the man played by Matthew (can't spell his last name right) or that other goofy guy in the movie. The review says they're all too nice. But I think that no one wants to step on each other's toes and reveal something. Lopez is more of a dramatic actress, but this was a good first effort into comedy. There's a little dance scene reminiscent of what she did with Richard Gere in last year's Shall We Dance? She and Matthew don't connect well until an hour into the movie. And some dull sections should have been removed. It is a funny movie for its romantic lilt.

Summary: The worst date movie EVER?
Review: I couldn't believe how bad this movie was. What's bad about it? Ok, the acting for one. Mathew MacConaughy is by far the worst actor in the business. J-Lo's father has the worst Italian accent ever portrayed. The script: recycled humor, idiotic situations, ridiculous stereotypes, lame dialog, and complete predictability. This movie was a chore to sit through, worse than any movie I have ever seen except "Cecil B. Demented."

Summary: Bland
Review: I actually like Jennifer Lopez, she was great in Maid In Manhattan, and funny in Gigli - yes, I have seen that, and yes I own it! I haven't seen Enough yet, but it's on my wishlist, and I've seen the trailer, it actually looks really good. And of course, on this, she just has to get one of her songs on the soundtrack - this time it was "Love Don't Cost A Thing".

What's good about this movie, is how obsessive, neat, and organised J-Lo is. She's always ready for any eventuality in her job as a wedding planner, and even at home, she's the exact same. Everything appears to be at perfect right angles etc. It's like Monica Geller all over again.

I'm not that big a fan of Matthew McConaughey (FYI, I'm copying & pasting that!) There is no chemistry/sparks between him & J-Lo, and he also can't act his way out of a paper bag. He's not the worst thing about this movie actually, every joke is forced and completely unoriginal. The classic romcom types are all present and correct: the ethnic, overprotective father; the vapid fiancée; the matchmaker best friend etc. And J-Lo is playing an Italian, when it's perfectly obvious she's so NOT. Very miscast in this movie, the actor playing her father looks more Italian than she does.

Apart from J-Lo, there are two fantastic actresses in this. Judy Greer, who always seems to play the supporting actress in any movie I've seen her in, and never gets the lead (13 Going On 30 and What Women Want, for example). Joanna Gleason is the other fantastic actress, she's so funny, especially when she's singing, and J-Lo's horse takes off due to the singing! It took a while for me to place her, but of course, she was in Friends! She played Kim, one of Rachel's bosses at Ralph Lauren. She's also done quite a few voices in King Of The Hill.

Possibly don't see for J-Lo, but for the supporting actors around her, especially Judy Greer, and Joanna Gleason. Oh, and one of the bigger nuns with the HUGE voice from Sister Act appears in two scenes, with a dreadful short blonde hairstyle. She was also in Rat Race, what's her name?! Mary Wickes? I think? Nope, she's dead. Wrong nun. Kathy Najimy! I'll get there eventually. There's not much more than 'fluff' for extras on this something about cowboys and wedding dresses or some such nonsense.

Summary: Unbelievably FAR FETCHED formula romantic "comedy"
Review: Another Jennifer Lopez love story. Bitter sweet and more far fetched than a "Will & Grace" episode. This stuff JUST DOESN'T HAPPEN!

Here's a sampling of the "coincidences" adding to a million to one odds: An aspiring wedding planner (with a lousy love life) is saved from a runaway garbage container by a gorgeous young doctor, who turns out to be her current client's fiancee. Mutual sparks fly. All in a city of, oh, 8 million people. Yeah, RIGHT! Mix in a few fairy tale situations (a cinema in the park with opportunities to dance, a ballroom dance class with more opportunities to dance, beautiful wedding songs, and more mush mush mush), and you have another Jennifer Lopez moment.

This is NO "Sleeping in Seattle" or "Groundhog Day", but merely another piece of commercial formula fluff unworthy of the name "romantic comedy". The male lead (what was his name?) has already been labeled a "has been", as this film won't be remembered for anything special, if it will be remembered at all. Save yourself the time and trouble, this one isn't worth either.**
