Summary: Classic 80's Steve Martin
Review: 1984 found director Carl Reiner teaming up with old friend Steve Martin once again. "All Of Me" captures some of Martin's best physical comedy to date. Martin plays sympathetic lawyer Roger Cobb who happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time... and gets crusty "just-dead" Edwina Cutwater's (Tomlin) soul dumped into him by accident... and the lunacy starts. Vicious Terry Hoskins (Victoria Tennant) is quietly evil to a tee. The majority of this film concentrates on Cobb dealing with his mixed feelings (his and Cutwater's), and trying to find the bumbling Prahka Lasa (played by Richard Libertini) so the lost soul of Cutwater can find it's final resting place. I remember this movie being hilarious when it came out and Steve Martin was one of the kings of comedy. While still an entertaining watch today (20 years later), it has lost a tad of it's luster. Three major flaws with this DVD, 1. The lack of absolutely no worthwhile extras on this DVD (comes with a trailer only), 2. Terrible MONO sound, 3. Full screen only... it's no wonder you'll find "All Of Me" in most stores on the bargain rack.

Summary: hilarious comedy; perfectly cast
Review: ALL OF ME is a hilarious comedy dealing with reincarnation, perfectly cast and written and blessed with bravura performances.

Filthy-rich Edwina Cutwater (Lily Tomlin) is on her deathbed. She employs the help of an Indian swamee and the beautiful daughter of the horsetrainer; Terry Hoskins (Victoria Tennant) to transfer her sprit into Terry's body so she may live again. The ritual is disturbed when Edwina's lawyer (Steve Martin) accidentally gets caught in the crossfire and inherits Edwina's spirit instead.

Soon, an unlikely friendship and romance develops while efforts are made to coerse the now-greedy Terry into submitting her body for Edwina's new life.

Very likable romantic-comedy. The scene where Martin and Tennant are attempting to have sex while "Edwina" fantasises about the cast of "Gone With The Wind" is hilarious. Tomlin and Martin are in top comedic form as is the breathtaking Victoria Tennant and the wonderful Dana Elcar.

A pretty murky DVD transfer is overlooked with such a great film.

Summary: They do it with mirrors
Review: Be advised that this is a rather naughty movie for a PG rating; it probably would have earned a PG-13 had that rating been around at the time. That aside, this is a real gem. What you have is Steve Martin as a lawyer and jazz guitarist (he seems to learn a new skill for every movie), a dog named Bix, a creepy girlfriend, a blind saxophonist, a Tibetan swami, Lily Tomlin as a wacky rich invalid, an amazing and riotous courtroom scene, a New Orleans funeral band playing excerpts of "Just a Closer Walk With Thee" and "Oh Didn't He Ramble," a horse, a dented bowl, a bucket of water, and various and selected other props, all rollicking to an ending so happy it'll bring tears to your eyes. Crazy musicians! (BL, Tucker, GA)

Summary: Another Great Reiner-Martin Collaboration
Review: Carl Reiner and Steve Martin return to collaborate on this off-the-wall 1984 comedy about the conflicts with gender roles. As with many of their other collaborations, this film is a cleverly crafted comedy to be enjoyed by all.

Steve Martin plays an attorney who falls victim to a bitter and crippled woman's (Lilly Tomlin) failed attempt to transfer her soul into that of a youner one (Victoria Tenant)who's even more sinister. Tomlin and Martin's characters try to find the guru who made this happen but they're hampered by a now reluctant Victoria Tenant who wants to keep Tomlin's vast wealth for herself. During their search, Martin and Tomlin must deal with the foreign habits and dispositions peculiar to their sexes.

This is a great comedy about gender roles and what might be the causes to the battle between the sexes. A film not to be missed.

Summary: Fix de bowl! Fix de bowl!
Review: Hilarious and wholesome entertainment. Steve Martin isexcellent as a guy who's body is temporarily inhabited by a spinster(Lily Tomlin, absolutely brilliant) after her other post-mortem plans go awry. You'll laugh--oh yes, you'll laugh.

Summary: Fun!
Review: Imagine if you had to share your body with your mortal enemy, the one person you hated when they were alive, but even more now that they're dead? That's the situation plaguing Steve Martin in "All of Me."

Martin played lawyer Roger Cobb, in perhaps one of his greatest early films. Lily Tomlin also dazzles as dying and quite uptight heiress/millionaire Edwina Cutwater. The way these two conversed at her house in the earliest scenes of the film, they were practically shooting daggers at each other. I was waiting for her to punch him. Well, maybe not, but they really went at each other. the truth is, all Edwina did was feel sorry for her self. But being trapped in Roger and seeing life from another perspective taught her that life is what you make of it, and that everyone needs to live a little.

Though the beginning lacks any real interest, the film builds up to an interesting plot, and a very happy ending. However, I felt that some key parts were exceptionally well done. The parts I found exciting and funny are the scene where Roger struggles for control of his own body on the sidewalk, while screaming and flinging himself around. The bathroom scene, in which Edwina grabs his "Mr Ed." or "Little Fireman" too hard, sending him screaming around the bathroom in pain. Another is the attempted sex scenes. Why do I say attempted? Because the first one is performed when Edwina is sleeping, but she wakes up and Roger can't control himself anymore.

The basic moral of the story is that we have to learn to live, and life isn't always how you want it to be. If you like Steve Martin and Lily Tomlin and want to se a great film, then check out this classic 1984 flick!

By the way...if you want to save some money, I found a copy of this for six dollars at best buy...Just FYI

Summary: Great performance
Review: Proof that the Academy Awards don't care for comedy is Steve Martin's failure to get a nomination for his performance in "All of Me", as challenging a role as any in drama. Martin is brilliant in his portrayal as a man with two souls in one body. The story, cast, and laughs are first-rate. The DVD transfer is average and the choice of full-screen is, as always, disappointing. An essential purchase for Steve Martin fans, however.
