Summary: A movie that needs to be watched at least 3 times
Review: I am a camp director and love the whole summer camp experience... having said that I would love Indian Summer either way.

The cast is fantastic... including Sam Raimi who went to become a director of such small films as Spiderman. He alone is fantastic as the brilliant Camp Helper "Stick".

Great performances by Bill Paxton, Kevin Pollack, and Diane Lane should be not overlooked.

There are some great life lessons and some very funny and touching moments.

This is a must see.

Summary: A movie I never tire of watching
Review: I first saw this movie on a field trip in 6th grade. I didn't really understand it then, but a few years ago, I watched again, and was touched by this wonderful movie. It makes me laugh and makes me cry. I especially enjoyed the performance of Elizabeth Perkins. This is a movie that I recommend to all.

Summary: Best Movie of All Time
Review: I really don't know what it is about this movie that makes it my favorite movie of all time. Maybe it's the easy-going style of the actors, (every scene seems so realistic, check out the "kitchen raid" scene...) maybe it's the music, maybe it's that I always wished that I could have had the camp experience in childhood that these characters get to relive. But there IS something magical in this movie, a feeling that only increases the more you watch it. Who HASN'T wanted to go back to being a kid again for a week? "That's the beauty of camp."

Definitely worth the watch. "There's nothing like a good moose."

Summary: I've finally found it
Review: I saw the previews for this movie when I was in 8th grade. I wanted to buy it for sentimental reasons. In the movie, 8 friends return to the camp where they spent so much time together growing up. I laughed and I cried. I went to a very small school and there were 8 people in my 8th grade class and we had a fun trip to Washington and I always wanted to go back years later with my 8th grade friends. Everything in this movie reminded me of that time in my life.
If you are wanting a good movie that will make you remember and wish to be young again, this is a perfect movie for you.

Summary: Great movie, but BOOOOOOO to the DVD
Review: I saw this movie the first time back when I was in highschool and really liked it, and had actually nearly forgotten about it until I saw it, instantly remembered it, and bought it. What I didn't notice until I was home and had opened it was that it was Fullscreen. A minor setback, I thought. I figured I'd just return it for the widescreen version-- until I realized that there is no widescreen version. This is almost unheard of for the DVD medium. I can't think of a single movie I own that isn't widescreen (or any movie at all that isn't at least available in both formats).

If Fullscreen doesn't bother you, you won't have any problem with this DVD, as the movie is really good. If you're like me however, you'll be disappointed when you realize that there is no Widescreen translation of this DVD yet.

At least it was cheap.

Summary: I liked this movie.
Review: I watched this movie late at night and fell asleep. Then I watched it the next day and I got very interested in it. I liked the characters and the story. Since then I have watched it over and over again.

Summary: Excellent cast, weak script.
Review: I'd been looking forward to seeing this movie. Nice casting and good acting for the most part. Competent cinematography. I went to camp as a child (Camp Tamarack) and lived in Michigan until adulthood, so I can relate to both the subject matter and environment. On the other hand, this movie has a "made for TV"-level script ("movie-lite"). The human relationships feel contrived, but I hesitate to use the word "contrived" because that may imply more depth than is present. The dialogue is often predictable, often Hollywoody (e.g., the use of repetition to simulate natural dialogue). The thin story feels like it was stretched to movie length. Only a few times did I think "good job": the second time Kevin Pollak commented on how small things were (the sailboat), Kimberly Williams' confrontation from the canoe with her fiance and the reactions of the other characters (and no -- unlike what I read in another review -- you don't get to see lovely Kimberly naked), and the ending. Another observation on the Hollywood nature of the film: the women were all beautiful (not that I mind, but it adds to the fakeness), the men had more physical variety (thus less fake), and the children in the beginning looked almost uniformly geeky (making me think they were chosen using nepotism). Overall, a good idea for a movie, but I would not recommend it.

Summary: Good movie, fair DVD
Review: Indian Summer is a favorite movie of mine, yet I had only seen it on the VHS 4:3 format. I was disappointed that the DVD is listed as NTSC, which generally means the 4:3 pan-and-scan format. Upon reading other reviewers' comments about the DVD actually being widescreen, I immediately purchased the DVD. It turns out the the DVD listing and the reviewers were both right/wrong. The DVD IS in 4:3 NTSC format, but shows the entire widescreen version of the film. (Is this what they mean by "letterbox" format?) Anyway, I can see what I had previously been missing, but yet the reproduction quality is low when compared to true widescreen format DVDs. The other thing is that the film's sound is only digital stereo, no surround options at all. In short, buy this DVD for the great performance of the ensemble cast and warm feel of the movie, but don't expect much performance from the DVD.

Summary: Great movie, low quality DVD, Widescreen
Review: It's a favorite movie of ours, but I noticed that the quality wasn't the same as a typical DVD. The resolution wasn't good, and I could occasionally see white or black "flecks" like when you're watching a movie from a film projector. Also, it is not fullscreen as advertised, but letterbox (1:2.35), which is really wide. I'm actually happy about this.

I called Paramount and they were aware of the accidental mis-labeling. Also they researched and said it was originally filmed in 1993 on 35mm, and the original transfer was used to make the DVD. I don't think this means Digitally Mastered as advertised.

For the price I'm glad to have it on DVD, even though I already own it on VHS. I would have been happier if it were represented correctly.
