Summary: Great Movie, Horrible DVD
Review: Ok, we all know that this a fantastic movie, I won't deny that. But I have to say that this is one of the lowest quality DVDs I've seen yet. Terrible transfer, and the compression rate is so high that the entire image is crawling with digital distortion. If I went over your head, trust me one this one, I work with digital video all the time. If your picky about the quality of your DVDs, pass on this one. Wait for a newer version.

Review: yeah baby, this is one groovy movie. where else can you hear about somebody getting their private parts shaved and meet a lady named alotta fagina?also you'll see a pussy...cat you'll never forget. this may not be wayne's world, but it will make you laugh and...hurley all over again.

Summary: I Once Thought Mike Myers Was Funny, Not Anymore...
Review: Let me see if I have this straight. Enough people went to see Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery that it spawned a sequel? That means enough people thought it was funny? Frankly, I'm embarrassed to come from the same country as Mike Myers. I'm also a little lost as to what genre Myers is supposed to be parodying, certainly Sean Connery or Roger Moore never ran around in blue velvet leisure suits, and at least came from the right island to warrant an accent. Myers stumbles through this film like a blindfolded man in search of his next one-liner or pratfall. What I really loath him for is because her brought the word 'shag' back into common usage and 'Yeah, baby!' became part of the cultural norm. Myers seems to be turning into this generation's Woody Allen, for where else could someone that repulsive, even without the fake bad teeth appliance and press on chest hair that looked as though he skinned a wookie, get into position to fondle so many woman. And in the second film he loses his 'Mojo', a word I used long before Myers was even Wayne on SNL, so now he's neurotic. All they need now is for the third film to take place in New York and they've got the Woody Allen schtick down pat. Additionally, given how often Austin laughs at his own jokes, Myers also thinks he's funny. What he probably does find amusing is how much money he's making. So what's the film about? Who really cares, since it's mostly Myers mugging for the camera as though he were some drunken college student who has just discovered that one of his frat buddies has just pointed a video camera at him. In fact all they did do is recycle a tired plot then attempted to make it funny. Basically, (and I mean that in the most literal sense), Powers' nemesis, in 1967 Dr. Evil has himself frozen in suspended animation so that he can awaken in 1997 where he can threaten the world without having Powers around to thwart him. Little does he suspect that Powers has himself frozen so he can be there when Dr. Evil gets out. Myers is actually Dr. Evil as well and as such does make me laugh. We also get to see Myers pretend to be the 'stranger in a strange land' bit when he discovers that all of tired old cliche lines that he used in the 60's are now surprisingly out of place, improper and offensive. Yeah, like the world has just gotten so much more civilized in 30 years. It became a tired race until the next time Austin said something inappropriate so everyone could stop and stare. Andrew Dice Clay gets the same reaction and he isn't funny either. Maybe my tastes are too refined, but since almost anything by Zucker & Abrams makes me laugh, I somehow don't think so.

Review: This was an AWESOME comedy! I love IT! it has great jokes that keep u laughing forever! and it never gets old! i've proly seen the movie 15 times and I still laugh every time!

Summary: Great movie to own
Review: This movie has a lot of elements that make it worth owning and seeing over and over. It has those one-liners and silly moments. I have a few of those lines as .wav files on my c drive. One of the things that makes this better than the sequel is the interaction between Austin Powers (Mike Meyers) and his partner Ms. Kensington (Elizabeth Hurley). Ms. Kensington does not approve of Austin's antics but finds Austin endearing. In the sequel there is no such interaction. Some have said that the jokes are "spelled out". I don't like humor being made less subtle than necessary, however this is not the case. The "spelling out" of jokes are jokes themselves. Many dislike the movie for being lewd. My cousin's grandparents walked out on the movie. However a former roommate of mine who's studying to be a minister thought it was one of the funniest movies he'd ever seen. Yes, the movie is somewhat risque but it has some qualities that make it somehow innocuous. The deaths in the movie are so outlandish as to make you laugh. The antagonist, Dr. Evil, seems to have a sense of humor and doesn't like killing his enemy the easy way. Still, don't let anyone under ten see the movie.

Summary: Smashing Baby!
Review: You've probably heard everything you'll ever need to about this movie (and probably already seen it too) but I'll give you my thoughts on this movie anyway. This movie is beyond funny. Almost every moment of film has some little joke in it, which is why no matter how many times you see it you'll notice something that'll make you say "I never noticed that before!" (once you're done laughing, that is). And of course you'll come out of this movie with about a hundred catch-phrases you'll be spouting out for the next week-and-half. Mike Myers shines as both the Villian and Hero. If you didn't like him before don't let that stray you from this movie because I didn't like him before I saw this either. It's nothing like anything else he's done, and it's definetly an improvement. And then there's Elizabeth Hurley (Vannesa). If you're a guy that's all you need to hear, but beyond appearences she also does an excellent job in this film. In the end, you want even more (but then you get disappointed by the sequel... which is just a bunch of recycled jokes from this one). But this movie is "Very groovy"

Summary: While Funny The Jokes Lack Finesse(Too Much Repetition! )
Review: This movie introduces two of probably the most zany characters(For better or worse?) to ever grace the silver and small screen. Mike Myers is pretty funny as Dr. Evil and Austin Powers but alot of the jokes are repeated over and over and then over again.(I got the point already! ) The joke with the swedish ... enlarger is told about three times or more when you see it for the first time in the same scene and it also is joked about in other scenes as well.(How about beating a dead horse already? )The lucky charms joke was awful. Then they went ahead and actually explained that it was from a T.V commercial.(Tacky and once again overkill) In the end there is another repetitive scene when parahnas bite the head off of one of Dr. Evil's thugs. He says three(or more?) corny descriptions of the biting. Finally Elizabeth Hurley said that was enough.(I felt the same I must say) The characters introduced in Austin Powers are definitely interesting but at times they are so blatantly unfunny.(Lucky Charms anybody?) The rough edged writing of Mike Myers needs to be smoothed out a bit. I would rather have my funny bone pounded on with short quick laugh inducing strokes than be hit with a sledge hammer over and over until that bone just breaks from the repetitive strikes. A comedian with just a few jokes should be one thing, not a comedian.

Summary: Keep in mind that I'm reviewing the DVD as well as the film
Review: For a movie as good as this, this is really a bad DVD... Maybe it's because, living in Hong Kong, I'm used to the International cut of the film, which has the two "Henchman's family/friends" sequences intact along with a few other jokes. Now, even though this is a small part of the film, for me they were the most clever and downright witty parts of the film, and the fact that this DVD does NOT have these bits intact (but rather as a supplement) made me feel a bit cheated. Another stinky bit about the DVD was the fact that it was made by humourless monkeys who have the image that adding a few "groovy"s and "baby"s into the menus would make them funny and Austin-ish. They're not funny. They're downright annoying. The 'music video', or so it's called, is nothing but a little montage of pictures you've seen many times. The 'spy genre retrospective' is a tedious bit of useless info. The commentary, though by the two big men of the film, Myers and Roach, is the one potentially saving grace lost by the fact that the two poor men sounded bored out of their minds during the recording. Then there are the 'alternate endings', which are mildly interesting, but nothing worth spending money over. Many of the shots look like something downloaded off a cheap illigal website. Now don't get me wrong, the Austin Powers film I've always watched and loved is, for the most part, still here. But I'll just warn you, don't expect all that the DVD promises to give you.

Summary: Yeah, Baby, Yeah!
Review: This has to be one THE most hilariously clever films I've ever seen. I am a HUGE fan of the James Bond films, at least of the six Sean Connery ones and On Her Majesty's Secret Service. And as a Bond fan I get and appreciate the multiple refrencses to old films in both of the Austin Powers films. Now some see Austin Powers as making fun of the Bond films. However, I see it as a tribute to both the Bond films and to the 60's as a decade. This is a must see, and sits way up there, high on my list of favorite comedies of all time. My favorite line in this film is said by the hilarious Tom Arnold, "God boy-Whad you eat! " If you do enjoy this movie, I suggest that you see The Jerk and the interestingly titled "DICK".
