Summary: Very funny!
Review: Though not for all tastes, Austin Powers exibits the qualities that make up great films.It is an excellent parody, with very funny running jokes (that ain't a man and the pump) I have almost worn out my vhs tape, so I probably should buy the dvd. The deleted scenes (also on the tape) are pointless and dumb. Elizabeth Hurley is far superior to Heather Grahm. This is the first. This is the original. This is the best. Summary: A Great Antedote For A Rainy Day
Review: I'm not a Mike Myers fan, and I avoided this film--and its sequels--like the plague when they were on the big screen. But I now know the error of my ways: AUSTIN POWERS is one of the freshest bits of purely entertaining, mindless fluff to come along in quite a while, the perfect antedote to an overcast and bad-mood sort of day.The story is an amalgamation of the more excessive plot ideas of such films as DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER and OUR MAN FLINT. Fashion photographer by day and swinging spy by night, Austin Powers is the toast of psychedelic London--and more than a match for Dr. Evil. But when Dr. Evil has himself frozen, Powers does the same, and the two defrost some thirty years later and resume their battle in the much more up-tight 1990s. The most obvious target of the spoof is the James Bond films, but fans of 1960s film will have a field day spotting the film's take offs on such characters as Matt Helm, Derek Flint, Emma Peel, celebrities like The Beatles and Andy Warhol, and such diverse films as THE TENTH VICTIM and the camp classic DR. GOLDFOOT AND THE GIRL BOMB. And dare we mention the sixties' own classic swinging spy spoof, the infamous CASINO ROYALE? Myers is greatly amusing in the double role of Austin Powers and Dr. Evil, both of whom have considerable difficulty adjusting to everything from safe sex to inflation, and Elizabeth Hurley is quite good in the Diana Rigg-ish role of sidekick Vanessa Kensington. But the real fun here is in the details--and the details include every one from Michael York to Robert Wagner to Burt Bacharach to Carrie Fisher, "Fembots" with killer pasties, and Italian sexpot Fabiana Udenio as a character with the most devastating name since Honor Blackman hit the screen in GOLDFINGER. The soundtrack is just as swinging as it gets, with blasts of everything from "These Boots Are Made For Walking" and "I Touch Myself." And look for a hilarious spoof of Bob Fosse-inspired choreography during the main credits! You won't find any deep thoughts in AUSTIN POWERS, and thank heaven for it: giggles and grins are the order of the day, and the film delivers them in abundance. The DVD is a nice one as well, offering your choice of widescreen or pan-and-scan, some entertaining notes and deleted scenes, and amusing commentary. Buy it and keep on your shelf for that rainy day.

Summary: What's With The Framing?
Review: Austin Powers was filmed in Super 35. That's with the gigantic black bars that show more to the side but slightly block the top and bottom (other Super 35 movies: Austin Powers 2 and 3, T2, Dogma). The DVD, however, is 1:85:1, not the way it was filmed. Also, 8 minutes into the movie (in fullscren or widescreen) the framing changes into 2:40:1 as originally filmed because the scene would look horribly cropped out. You see so much more in this short minute of PROPER framing. But, the rest of the movie is incorrectly framed at 1:85:1. Why? I haven't any idea. The cover sais "as specified by the director" who apparentally wanted it adjusted closer for the benefit or both standard and widescreen TV owners. What's the point? You've got a full-frame version on side B, for any fools who want to watch it. So why not, Mr. Director, show it in Super 35, as originally filmed. You, after all, filmed it this way, why butcher your own version? Aside from that, the picture quality is perfect, the sound is wonderful, and the special features are vast. The commentary is slow, but very informative and funny. the trailer is very well done (look out for deleted material in it) and the deleted scenes are very interesting. I love the disk, but the framing thing bothers me. I still recommend you buy this (but the 3-Pack, because the other two are formatted correctly). Still, what is with the framing?

Summary: The saga begins
Review: After watching Mike Myers on Saturday Night Live all those years, we should expect nothing less of him. And boy, does he deliver with this uproarious spoof on the James Bond series. It's hard to find such a great cast. You have Mike Myers and...Mike Myers. Hmmm. Is there a bit of a pattern here? Anyway, there are some great appearances other than Mike himself. For example, Elizabeth Hurley is the perfect sidekick. Austin seems like the kind of person you'd first detest, then begin to love. Also, new SNL star Will Ferrel is cast with the small part of Mustafa along with teen star Seth Green; who is Dr. Evil's son, through some sort of weird sex occurance (you'll get the answer in Austin Powers 2). Another thing that's made this movie so popular is that everyone remembers the lines Austin or Dr. Evil say; and they use them in their everyday lives. For example, the way Dr. Evil stretches out the word "right" is very widely used. And let's not forget Austin's "groovy, baby!" or his "oh, behave!". You just can't forget great one-liners like that. I never saw this movie in the theater, so I got kind of sick of hearing about it. So I just went out and rented it. If you think it's stupid, dumb, or anything like that, you must be a fool. And as far as storyline goes, that's a whole other story. It's just plain funny. And it's not that the actually story provides the laughs, it's just that it's so simple and such a hilarious parody of all the Bond movies. You can't help but laugh at it's simplicity. I mean, how often have we seen a bomb counting down from 30 seconds? You must see this movie. Even if you're not a huge fan of comedy or Saturday Night Live. I promise you many many laughs.

Review: This movie is hardly funny at all. It's purpose is to parody spy movies from the 60's instead of making you laugh. The fact that it's missing Mini-Me also makes it incredibly drab, since Mini-Me is the best character out of the whole series. This movie does have its moments though, like when Austin's on the steamroller and he's trying to turn it around but he can't and he keeps running into the walls of the building.. hehe Just because Goldmember has rehash from the previous movies doesn't make it bad. It's much more funny than this dead thing. I'd reccomend buying that one and watching this one on TV when it comes on. Only for the hardcore Powers fan.

Summary: It's Number Two To Me.......
Review: The movie that started the Austin Powers series is this not so mysterious mystery. ............. When this film debuted it certainly garnered alot of attention as it was and is a film in it's own genre, spoof espionage? Whatever you like to call it, it certainly is good for some laughs. Elizabeth Hurley looking reminiscent of Julie Newmars "Catwoman" and all the trippy colors make this a fun retro viewing on one hand, but on the other, "Do I make you horny baby, do I make you randy" over and over gets kind of annoying. There is not that much comic inspiration here as was in the latter "Shagged" or especially "Goldmember" which was a constant riot. This first Austin is more of a rough idea needing further refinement and evolution. It gives you an idea of the shape of things to come. Certainly the addition of the subsequent Austin Characters like "Fat Bastard" and the Dr. Evil sidekick "Mini-Me" added lots of comic relief to those follow-ups and makes this pale in comparison. Luckily the chronology had made this successful because the viewers weren't used to getting more laughs yet, and this was unique and different. If say "Goldmember" came first, and this after, I think fans would have been disappointed. ................ For the loyal Austin fan, this is a must of course. However, I find "Austin Powers International Man of Mystery" to be the least amusing of all.

Summary: The movie that started it all!
Review: Mike Myers in Austin Powers is one of the funniest Action Comedies I've ever seen. Myers is Austin Powers, Brittain's #1 Spy and International Man of Mystery. The year is 1967 and After chasing his arch nemesis Dr. Evil (also played by Myers), Dr. Evil escapes to outer space to freeze himself and wait until Austin Powers could no longer stop his evil plans. In return, Austin also goes into Cryostasis, only to be thawed out when Dr. Evil returned to wreak havoc on the world. 30 years later, Dr. Evil returns and with the help of his henchman Number 2, Frau Farbissina and Random Task, Dr. Evil makes his plans to ransom the world for 100 Billion Dollars! If his demands aren't met, he then threatens to drill a hole to the center of the Earth and launch a nuclear weapon into the Earth's core making all of the volcanoes around the world erupt! Of course the only man who can stop him is sent out, Austin Powers along with some help from the Ministry of Defense, Vanessa Kensington (Elizabeth Hurley). This is a definite 5 star movie! A lot of action and there's also a lot of very funny scenes in this movie a long with the parodies of Demolition Man and pretty much the entire 007 series. There's something for everyone in this movie. I highly recommend this movie and also, don't forget to pick the sequels Uastin Powers, the Spy who Shagged me and Austin Powers in Goldmember. This is an excellent series to get into. You won't be disappointed!

Summary: International Movie Comedy!
Review: Austin Powers is spectacular in his first movie. The comedy is hilarious, and their are many adult cracks. I think it is a teen movie more, because my parents were annoyed when Dr. Evil says "magma." If you have kids from 12-20, this is definetly the choice.

Review: Austin Powers is a funny goof ball Mike Myers comedy about a stupid 70's agent that is frozen so he can stop his enemy Dr. Evil,both played by Mike Myers.It's funny because of all the 70's lines like shagadelick,ya baby,and just how stupid Mike Myers can act.It's not as funny as Waynes World and is better than WW2 it proves it's point.All these actors(mostly played by Mike Myers)are all really funny. The DVD isn't that good witch is why I am giving this review a 4,if I just had to rate the movie I would give it a 5.I hope if you see this movie and hope my review was helpful.
