Rating: Summary: One of my FAVE movies! Review: You have to see this movie if you love comedy or horseracing or Richard Dreyfus or just wanna have fun! David Johanson, that fab frontman from the very first glam band "New York Dolls" is a GREAT actor! Made me laugh my a** off! I actually have this on the ancient Laserdisc format and went nuts finding the DVD! Gotta get it! If you are a DVD nut like me, you know you can't depend on regular stores to stock everything! Gotta get this one online. What are you waiting for?
Rating: Summary: One of the Funniest Movies Ever Made Review: I first saw this movie in the early 1990s, and having been known to place a bet or two, it became my own cult classic. But, you do not need to be a fan of horse racing to enjoy Trotter's "good day" at the track. Richard Dryfus, whose name I can never spell correctly, gives an inspired performance as a race track regular who just wants "one really good day" before giving up the horses to save his marriage to Terri Garr. Breaking with his own tradition, instead of collecting his winnings on a sure thing, he decides to let the bet ride, and sets in motion events that will literally have you laughing out loud even if you are watching the movie by yourself.
Rating: Summary: One of the best movies ever made! Review: This is more of a vent than a review. Its a real crime that there isn't a soundtrack available for this movie. What half-wit made that decision? Todays Hollywood and its actors couldn't put out a movie half this quality! And I'd bet my grandmother on that!
Rating: Summary: "Am I having a good day or what?" Review: When Dreyfuss turns toward the camera and asks that question, you will laugh out loud. A classic that should be viewed many times. "Trotter's" time spent in the Jockey Club is very memorable and hilarious. Rent it/Buy it. Thank me later.
Rating: Summary: Classic Comedy Review: Choc full of racetrack humor, antics and dreams.....a classic comedy and the very best of Richard Dreyfuss.
Rating: Summary: My Feel Good Movie Review: This sleeper of Richard Dryfus' movies, to me is by far his best comedy. His performance is great, but give me all the rest of the cast - fantastic. I watch this whenever I want a lift. There is not one scene that is not above and beyond.
Rating: Summary: One of the funnier movies I've seen Review: Did this ever get released to the theaters? Was there ANY money invested in marketing this? How is it that I discovered this on HBO in the early '90's and consider it one of the more amusing movies I've seen? I don't get it. There are so many endearing characters and amusing scenes that this movie is one to be viewed whenever you need a little grin, or if you are about to play the ponies yourself. If there is a criticism of this movie, it's that the love angle between Garr and Dreyfus never really comes alive. This is in contrast to every other relationship in the movie- everyone plays their parts to the hilt, and the movie just "sings". In some ways I am glad almost nobody has seen this; when I recommend it, I know I am going to get a favorable report. Warning: If you have a bad habit of over-quoting movies (as I do!)... beware. Plenty of good material in this one!
Rating: Summary: A great ride, a good laugh, quirky characters... Review: Even if you are not a Richard Dreyfus fan, you should see this movie at least once. Filmed in 1989 but timeless, this is one of those movies that you actually buy because you know you will watch it over and over again. Each character is so rich in personality that you will be drawn into the story because of them, you are in for a great ride. Teri Garr was in her prime as "Trotter's" Richard Dreyfus' wife, even the ticket seller at the track becomes someone you want to see again because he is just one of the people who become essential to the web of racetrack family in this funny, funny story. AND surprise, surprise, the end is wonderful and makes you feel good! So unusual in these days of "reality based" story lines. See it and have a good time. Michele Schroeder
Rating: Summary: Let it ride is hysterically funny Review: If you've eer played the ponies you know they got this exactly right. The casting is perfection.
Rating: Summary: Trotter's DAY at the Races Review: This is a fabulous movie that will keep you laughing from start to finish. Truly Dreyfuss' best work and there is a tremendous supporting cast, Robbie Coltrane, the ticket seller being the best of the bunch. Definately among the best films of the 80's.
